Chapter 188 - changing tides II

When I got to my bedchambers, I refused to let Lily wash me. I wanted to bathe myself. More than anything, I just wanted to be alone.

The moment I entered the bath, I slowly lowered myself into the warm water and rested my head against the edge of the tub. The warmth should have been comforting, but it wasn't enough to wash away everything that had happened.

My hand slowly drifted to my stomach.A heavy sigh escaped my lips.

For a long moment, I simply sat there, staring at the ripples in the water.

I had never even gotten the chance to know my child.

I never heard a heartbeat. Never imagined whether it would look like me or.....

I closed my eyes tightly before taking another deep breath.

No. There was no point dwelling on what I could no longer change.

I took my time washing my hair, making sure every trace of dried blood disappeared from the silver strands. It seemed impossible that only a few hours ago they had been soaked crimson.
