Chapter 12 - True Meaning Of Strength - Part 2

Suddenly, Sukuna jumped onto a smaller building in his path, putting his hand on its roof as Jogo's meteors rapidly approached.

"SPIDERWEB!"

When those words were uttered, the whole building was cut from the top down into many smaller pieces, causing Sukuna to free-fall in an attempt to use the falling rubble around him to lose Jogo's meteors, or at least lessen the blow.

But that did little to deter Jogo.

"THREE BODIES! CANNON!"

When Jogo said this, his three meteors began rapidly rotating around each other before finally launching one of them into the building.

Sukuna, still falling, was helpless to stop what was coming toward him.

When the meteor exploded, Jogo made a crunching motion with his hand, concentrating the explosion into a smaller range, still causing all the rubble around Sukuna to vaporise.

As for the king of curses, when his body flew out from the smoke, it was completely darkened, black as coal, right arm missing, and a chunk of flesh removed where his stomach should be.

He quickly rose to his feet, coughing up blood and entering a defensive stance. But before he could activate his reverse-cursed technique to heal, Jogo had been lifted off the meteor on which he was formerly standing, arms widened, his black teeth contrasting against the bright green fire of his domain projection.

Then, the two meteors began flying in Sukuna's direction.

The king of curses then jumped back, but as he did, a small volcano appeared directly behind him, spewing lava that formed into a lava hand.

While he was still in the air, the lava hand reached to grab him, while the two meteors approached from either side.

"Thank you, Sukuna.

Thank you for making me even stronger.

This is goodbye, but I will never forget you for as long as I live.

You can be sure of that.

CONVERGENCE!"

When Jogo said that, the fist reached forward, while the two remaining meteors began closing the distance even faster.

Then, the two meteors hit, causing an even greater explosion than before, the sheer force of the impact causing the barriers around Shibuya itself to shudder and quake in response.

Any and all buildings were vaporised within a 300-meter radius.

A new and even larger crater appeared in the blast's wake, so large it could reach out and connect to the original Shibuya crater.

Jogo was sent flying, being caught in the blast. His armour cracked under the pressure, but he managed to stumble back up.

Then, a pang of exhaustion hit him. All the cursed energy spent on this was finally taking its toll.

But he had won.

Now, time to find Mahito and Dagon.

But then, Jogo heard movement behind him. Someone was climbing the crater's walls.

He turned, and his eyes widened.

It was unmistakable.

Ryomen Sukuna suddenly walked out of the smoke, stretching his newly healed arm.

He was completely fine. He had enough cursed energy left to heal his body fully and still be all energetic.

Jogo, meanwhile? He was exhausted. His armour was shattered.

Probably a miracle he didn't just collapse and die on the spot.

"How... How did you..."

"You're tired, curse. And it took an extraordinary amount of cursed energy to control and maintain those meteors of yours.

When you used your convergence, you lost control over your remaining two meteors.

If you had actually condensed their explosions, I'd be dead.

But you didn't. You couldn't. So I reinforced my body with cursed energy.

Simple as that."

Jogo had no doubt in his mind.

The confidence Sukuna showed... Jogo knew he was going to die.

"From this range, I could exorcise you in an instant, curse.

But I have something else in mind.

You've intrigued me, so how about this... A battle of firepower.

We'll fight with your speciality."

Jogo remembered this from his dream. Sukuna summoned a large bow and arrow made of fire, and Jogo's concentrated ball of fire stood no chance against it. That was how he died.

Sure, he'd gotten stronger, but not strong enough to beat Sukuna's fire. Especially not in his exhausted state.

But Jogo managed to save Dagon, at least. And Mahito and Dagon will fight on, keep their collective dream going.

But Jogo's train of thought was suddenly interrupted.

"You made me make a mistake. I underestimated you, volcano. I turned my back to you, expecting you to be too weak to conjure up another attack. But you... You almost killed me.

I would've criticised you, curse. Your petty goals, your petty friendship with those curses. But I know you'd never change your mind.

We, those of us who are strong. We hold our beliefs too firmly.

What we believe in becomes truth due to our strength.

But that doesn't matter now. My strength was greater than yours.

You'll die. And with you, I'll get your friend, the one who's still transforming.

But I assure you, I will never forget you. Not for as long as I live."

Sukuna said that with confidence, but the truth is, he lied.

If he had simply reinforced his body with cursed energy, he would've died.

Instead, he made a binding vow. He could not use any slashing attacks, including his domain expansion. He could only use fuga or pure cursed energy to fight.

This would stay active until the next time he regains control over Yuji Itadori's body, with the exception that using his 'enchain' ability would not count.

The silence was deafening, until Jogo finally responded.

"No."

"Hm?"

"...There is another one. Another one like us. Even if Mahito and I die, he will keep going in our name."

"You mean that squid-looking curse, right? the one who was with you when you began preparing your first meteor?"

Sukuna chuckled.

"He ran off. To the other direction. Probably out of the barrier by now. Hiding out somewhere. Or exorcised by someone more powerful. Either way, your little friend is gone, curse."

"...No. That's not Dagon. That's not him."

"You are a fool, curse. Goodbye."

Jogo looked forward. Both he and Sukuna were completely focused on eachother, both having their fire attacks pointed at one another. Waiting for one to fire first. But Jogo knew when Sukuna used his fire arrow, he'd be dead.

Oh well. He'd lived a great life.

He closed his eyes, ready for death.

But death didn't come.

Suddenly, his ears were flooded by the noise of... Water? And screeching?

When Jogo reopened his eyes, he saw something enormous behind Sukuna.

A tsunami wave. One larger than any standing building in Shibuya. In the middle of the crater, towering over Sukuna.

It was full of rubble, but there was something else inside. Easily a hundred Mahito's transfigured humans.

And as Jogo looked up, standing right above it was him. It was Dagon!

Sukuna stepped back, preparing to turn and shoot the fire arrow at the Tsunami.

"Turn your back, you're dead."

But that voice didn't come from Jogo.

Jogo suddenly felt a hand touch his shoulder.

He saw a curse. Very tall one. Four arms, wings at the shoulders. 6 tendrils stretching out from the back.

Two blades are attached to each of the arms.

The head has a sort of tail at its back. The face is... sort of reminiscent of Hanami.

"Mahito?"

Sukuna's face contorted in something resembling shock.

Dagon's wave approached as Mahito walked over and stood beside Jogo.

"You've done well.

Leave the rest to us, friend."
