Chapter 14 - The Symphony of the Slaughter

The heavy bronze gates of the Arena of Blood ground open, revealing a circular stage of packed red sand that had tasted the lifeblood of thousands. Above, the stadium seats were a sea of crimson capes and glinting bronze. Thousands of Spartans leaned forward, their breath held in a collective silence that was soon shattered by a roar from the highest balcony.

There, seated on a throne made of melted swords, was a giant of a man. His skin was the color of old copper, and his eyes were twin pits of smoldering embers. He didn't wear a crown; he wore a necklace of teeth.

Ares. The God of War.

"Show me!" Ares's voice boomed, shaking the very foundations of the mountain. "Show me the man who turned my son into a blushing maiden! Show me why the Heavens fear your 'indecency'!"

I stepped out onto the sand. The [Mirror of Narcissus] buff was still active, and under the harsh Greek sun, my skin seemed to radiate a golden hue. To my left, So-Hee stood like a sculpture of frozen sapphire in her [Crystalline Silk of Boreas]. To my right, Yuna was a blur of shifting violet smoke, the [Umbral Ribbon] pulsing like a dark heart.

[Quest: The Symphony of Slaughter Initialized.]

[Objective: Eliminate all waves without taking damage.]

[Status: Audience Awe at 85%.]

"You ready?" I asked, my voice low.

"I've never been more ready to kill for you, Jin-Woo," Yuna whispered, her shadow-claws extending and retracted with a metallic shink.

"Just stay behind me," So-Hee added, her voice a cold melody. "I'll make sure nothing even breathes on your suit."

The first wave didn't come from the gates. The ground itself split open. From the depths of the arena rose four Nemean Chimeras. They were monstrosities of myth—lion bodies, goat heads breathing fire, and serpent tails that dripped with acid. Each one was a Rank-S threat.

The crowd erupted. "Kore! Kore! Kore!" they chanted, the ancient word for 'slaughter'.

The Chimeras lunged. They didn't move like animals; they moved like heat-seeking missiles. One targeted So-Hee, two went for Yuna, and the largest—the Alpha—aimed its fire-breath directly at me.

"Resonance!" I commanded.

[Skill Activation: Harem Resonance - Level 2.]

[Effect: Shared Mana Pool and Synchronized Perception.]

Time slowed down. Through the resonance, I could see what So-Hee saw. I could feel the twitch in Yuna's muscles. I didn't move my feet. I just tilted my head as a stream of white-hot fire passed an inch from my face.

"So-Hee, Freeze. Yuna, Finish," I ordered.

So-Hee didn't just cast a spell. She performed. She spun in a slow, elegant circle, the [Crystalline Silk] flaring out like the petals of a winter rose.

"Absolute Zero," she murmured.

A wave of crystalline frost erupted from her, freezing the air so quickly that the fire from the Chimeras turned into solid, orange glass. The three smaller beasts were frozen mid-leap, turned into beautiful, terrifying statues of ice.

Before the ice could even settle, Yuna was gone. She didn't run across the sand; she traveled through the shadows cast by the ice statues. She appeared above the first Chimera, her blades glowing with a dark, violet light.

"Shadow-Bind Kiss," Yuna giggled.

She didn't just cut them. She kissed her fingers and blew the violet smoke toward the frozen beasts. The smoke touched the ice, and the Chimeras didn't just shatter—they imploded into dark mists, their mana being absorbed directly into Yuna's ribbon.

[First Wave: Cleared.]

[Damage Taken: 0.]

[Audience Awe: 92%.]

The Alpha Chimera, seeing its pack destroyed, let out a roar that cracked the stone pillars. It lunged at me again, its serpent tail whipping forward with the speed of a bullet.

I didn't draw a sword. I used the [Belt of Irresistible Grace].

I stepped into the beast's reach, grabbing the serpent tail with my bare hand. The acid burned against the golden light of the belt, neutralizing instantly. I pulled the beast toward me, and as its lion head snapped at my throat, I pressed my palm against its forehead.

"You're too angry," I said. "Let's find some balance."

[Skill Activation: Corruptive Touch.]

The Chimera's fiery eyes dimmed. Its growl turned into a confused whimper. The beast that had been bred for war suddenly sat down on the sand, wagging its serpent tail like a lonely puppy. It leaned its heavy head against my chest, seeking comfort.

The stadium went silent. Ares stood up from his throne, his ember-eyes widening.

"He... he tamed a Nemean Chimera? With a touch?" a Spartan general whispered in the front row.

"It's not taming," I shouted, looking up at Ares. "It's just showing them that there's more to life than your bloody Arena! Is this the best you have, God of War? Because my suit isn't even wrinkled yet."

Ares let out a laugh that sounded like a mountain collapsing. "ARROGANT MORTAL! You think a few pets are the extent of my domain? OPEN THE SEVENTH GATE!"

The stadium floor began to vibrate. A sound of heavy, rhythmic thumping echoed from a gate that looked like it hadn't been opened in centuries. From the darkness emerged a figure that made even the Spartans recoil in fear.

It was a Minotaur, but not the one from the stories. This one was twelve feet tall, its body made of blackened bronze and fused with the souls of fallen warriors. It carried a double-headed axe that glowed with a sickly, necrotic green light.

The Colossus of Tartarus.

[Warning: Mythic Boss Detected.]

[Special Condition: The Boss is immune to 'Indecent Aura' until its armor is shattered.]

"Jin-Woo, let me take this one," So-Hee said, her ice-crown glowing with a fierce light. "His armor is made of divine iron. My frost can make it brittle."

"And I'll find the cracks," Yuna added, her eyes bleeding violet smoke.

I looked at the Colossus. It wasn't just a monster; it was a manifestation of Ares's pride. If I wanted that [Touch of the Conqueror] skill, I had to play this perfectly.

"Do it," I said. "But remember the rule. No one touches me. Not even a speck of dust."

The battle that followed was a dance of ice and shadow. So-Hee bombarded the Colossus with shards of absolute zero, the thermal shock causing the bronze armor to groan and crack. Yuna was a ghost, appearing for a microsecond to drive her blades into the fissures before vanishing back into the darkness.

I stood in the center of the arena, the tamed Chimera at my side, watching my anchors perform. I was the conductor of this symphony of slaughter, spending my EXP in real-time to buff their every move.

[EXP Spent: 500 Million.]

[Skill Upgrade: Harem Synergy - Level Max.]

As the Colossus swung its massive axe, I saw the opening. The bronze chest plate was webbed with cracks.

"Now!" I shouted.

So-Hee and Yuna converged. A pillar of ice and a storm of shadows struck the Colossus simultaneously. The divine iron shattered like glass, revealing the pulsing, necrotic core of the beast.

I leaped into the air, the [Belt of Irresistible Grace] glowing with a blinding intensity. I didn't use a weapon. I used the [Mirror of Narcissus] to focus all my charisma and power into a single point.

"Yield," I commanded, my voice resonating with the weight of my Level 99 soul.

I struck the core with a palm thrust.

A wave of golden energy erupted from the point of impact, washing over the Colossus and the entire arena. The necrotic souls within the beast weren't destroyed; they were... purified. The blackened bronze turned to shining gold, and the beast fell to its knees, bowing its head to me.

[Boss Defeated.]

[Damage Taken: 0.]

[Quest Complete: The Symphony of Slaughter.]

[Reward: Divine Skill 'Touch of the Conqueror' Acquired.]

I stood over the kneeling golden giant, my hand resting on its head. I looked up at the shocked faces of the Spartans and the silent, brooding figure of Ares.

"Is the show over?" I asked, my voice echoing through the silence. "Or do I need to charm the rest of your army too?"

Ares didn't answer immediately. He stared at me for a long time, then a slow, terrifyingly wide grin spread across his face.

"The show," Ares whispered, "has only just begun. But you... you are no longer a guest, Kang Jin-Woo. You are a threat."

[Warning: A 'Divine Bounty' has been placed on your head by the God of War.]

I grinned back, feeling the new power of the [Touch of the Conqueror] pulsing in my veins.

"Good," I said. "I was starting to get bored."
