Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Reading Together

A few days after returning from the labyrinth.

Dan Feng went to a bookstore in Millishion and bought a large number of books, including quite a few about the regions, people, and notable events of this world.

He carried all these books back to his room and began reading them carefully.

Fortunately, he could recognize the human language characters; otherwise, learning to read would have taken a lot more time.

"Hm? The Legend of the North God Hero?" Dan Feng picked up a book he hadn't bought and thought for a moment before remembering that the bookstore owner had given it to him as a gift after seeing him purchase so many books.

All books in this world were handwritten copies—there was no such thing as printing—but the handwriting in these books was extremely clear.

When Dan Feng saw the name "North God," he recalled the Seven Great Powers that adventurers often mentioned.

The Seven Great Powers were universally recognized as the strongest individuals in the world. Their deeds had long spread across the globe, and anyone who ascended to the rank of one of the Seven Great Powers would receive boundless glory and be revered by all.

At the top of the Seven Great Powers was the Technique God, second was the Dragon God, third the Fighting God, fourth the Demon God, fifth the Death God, sixth the Sword God, and seventh was the North God mentioned in this book.

Dan Feng only knew the titles of these legendary figures; he had never seen their actual names.

He slowly opened the first page and began reading.

After reading for a while, he couldn't help but feel that the author was exaggerating quite a bit. Every line was filled with praise and admiration for the North God, as if the North God had been given the protagonist halo. The entire book revolved around portraying the North God as a hero.

After finishing the book, Dan Feng had learned about some of the places the North God had visited in the story—especially the Begaritt Continent, which was primarily a desert environment.

"It's about noon now. Time to go down and get something to eat." Dan Feng stood up, casually picked up an unread book, and headed out the door.

Downstairs, Dan Feng ordered a sandwich from the landlady and began eating while reading.

Roxy was sitting nearby, curiously watching Dan Feng. When she noticed the book in his hand, she moved over and sat beside him out of curiosity.

Dan Feng caught sight of Roxy from the corner of his eye. He paused what he was doing and looked at her with a puzzled expression, as if asking, "Is something the matter?"

"It's nothing. I just wanted to see what book you're reading." Roxy quickly explained upon seeing Dan Feng's look.

Dan Feng swallowed the bite of sandwich in his mouth, glanced at the title, and slowly said, "It's a book about regional cultures. The author is named Bloody Kant."

"Oh~ Bloody Kant…" Roxy murmured thoughtfully, then suddenly realized. "Wait, what? Bloody Kant?"

"Yes, Bloody Kant."

Bloody Kant was Roxy's magic teacher. When she had come to the Migurd village, she asked Roxy to show her around and teach her about the Migurd race's daily life, customs, and culture. During the day, she would wander around with Roxy while also instructing her in magic.

"This seems to be my teacher's name." Roxy stared at the author's name on the book.

"Really? What a coincidence." Dan Feng said calmly. When he saw Roxy's dejected expression, he spoke again. "By the way, have you ever properly read a book from cover to cover?"

Roxy shook her head but then nodded. "If magic books count, then yes, I suppose I have finished some."

"I see. I bought a lot of books. If you're bored, want to come upstairs and read together?" Dan Feng finished the last bite of his sandwich and said this to Roxy. His eyes were completely clear and innocent—nothing more than a genuine desire to share what he had bought with someone else.

"Eh? Is that really okay?" Roxy looked at Dan Feng, her heart fluttering like a little rabbit hopping around. She felt a tiny spark of excitement.

Dan Feng nodded, his tone relaxed. "It's fine. I bought so many books—one person definitely can't read them all that quickly."

With that, Dan Feng led Roxy upstairs to his room.

"Excuse me for intruding." Roxy said softly, then curiously began looking around Dan Feng's room.

Dan Feng's room was extremely tidy and spotless, giving off a comfortable feeling.

The books were neatly arranged on the bookshelf, sorted by category in perfect order.

Not only that, but even everyday items were placed neatly—there wasn't the slightest bit of clutter.

"There doesn't seem to be anywhere to sit…" Roxy said while looking around the room and noticing there were no chairs or anything similar.

"Sorry, since this is an inn, rooms usually don't have chairs. But I've cleaned everything thoroughly, so feel free to sit anywhere."

After saying that, Dan Feng took the book written by Bloody Kant, sat down on the bed, and opened it to begin reading with great interest.

This book introduced Dan Feng to many different races, including the demon race, beast race, and the customs and cultures of various human regions.

Seeing this, Roxy walked over to the bookshelf and carefully browsed the titles.

Her eyes wandered across the shelves before finally stopping on a book about the distribution of world powers.

"Power distribution?" Roxy murmured softly, clearly very interested in the topic.

She picked up the book, went to a corner of the room, sat down on the floor, and soon became immersed in the world of the book.

For a while, the room was completely silent, save for the occasional sound of pages turning.

Both of them were fully focused on the books in their hands, neither disturbing the other. They simply enjoyed the quiet pleasure of reading together.

By the time Dan Feng finished this book, three hours had passed. When he looked out the window, the sky had already begun to take on the hues of dusk.

He stood up, intending to go use the restroom or something.

Turning his head, he saw that Roxy was still deeply absorbed in her book. Her small frame looked barely over one and a half meters tall. Truly fitting for a race that stopped growing at fifteen, huh?

From the book he had just read, there was information about Roxy's race—the Migurd race. It was a unique race in which almost everyone possessed a ability called telepathy.

Telepathy allowed people to instantly convey their intended meaning to others who could use it, without needing to speak aloud—an extremely special power.

The book explicitly mentioned that there was one Migurd girl who was born without this ability, making her equivalent to a deaf-mute person among her own kind.

Migurd people generally did not leave their tribe… unless…

"Roxy?" Dan Feng gently called out to Roxy, who was completely immersed in her book.

Roxy lifted her head and looked at Dan Feng upon hearing his voice.

"Hm? What's up?" Roxy tilted her head slightly. Paired with her clear, innocent eyes and adorable face, she was utterly captivating—no matter how much one looked, one could never grow tired of her. She was the very picture of a delicate, frail, easy-to-push-over legal loli.

"Um… do you happen to be unable to use telepathy?" Dan Feng asked cautiously. He had a hunch that the Migurd girl described in the book was Roxy.

"Yeah, why bring that up all of a sudden?" Just as Roxy's gaze fell on the book in Dan Feng's hand—the one written by her own teacher—she suddenly understood why he was asking.

"Does the book talk about the Migurd race?" Roxy asked curiously, looking at Dan Feng who had just finished reading it.

"Yes."
