Chapter 48 - Chapter 47 — The Breaking Point

The storm reached the northern range before midnight.

Black clouds rolled across the sky like a living tide, swallowing the stars one by one. Lightning flashed within the storm, not white—but deep violet, pulsing with corrupted spiritual energy.

Below, the cracked second seal glowed faintly against the cliff face.

The chains of ancient script trembled.

Waiting.

High above the ravine, dozens of figures hovered in formation.

Members of the Shadow Abyss Cult.

Their robes whipped violently in the raging wind as they formed a massive ritual circle in the sky.

At the center stood the Cult Leader.

His expression was calm.

Almost peaceful.

As if what was about to happen had been inevitable for a very long time.

"Begin."

His voice carried easily across the storm.

The disciples raised their hands in unison.

Dark energy surged downward.

Far away—

At the Heavenly Flow Sect—

The Heaven-Seeking Resonance Array erupted with light.

The jade ring spun rapidly, silver threads flashing like lightning trapped inside its core.

Inside the Hall of Origin, elders shouted over the sudden surge.

"The seal is under attack!"

Above ground, Seo Joon felt the impact immediately.

The Abyssal Heart slammed violently against his ribs.

Boom.

Boom.

Boom.

Not calm.

Not controlled.

Panicked.

He turned north instantly.

"They've started."

Seol Ah was already beside him, sword in hand.

"Then we're going."

Minutes later, a small group launched into the night sky.

Seo Joon.

Seol Ah.

The Sect Master.

Two elders.

They moved like streaks of light across the dark mountains.

But even from miles away—

They could see it.

The storm.

Back at the ravine—

The ritual circle above the cliff intensified.

Dark streams of energy struck the cracked seal repeatedly.

Each impact caused the chains to flare and flicker.

Cracks spread across the stone formation.

The cliff trembled.

Inside the prison beyond the seal—

The devouring entity roared silently.

Chains strained violently.

It could feel freedom approaching.

One cult disciple shouted over the storm.

"The formation is weakening!"

Another laughed.

"Push harder!"

More energy poured downward.

The ancient script began to fracture.

Suddenly—

A calm voice cut through the chaos.

"You're early."

The Cult Leader looked up.

Seo Joon stood on a floating rock ledge across the ravine.

Wind whipped his dark robes violently around him.

Behind him—

The Sect Master and the elders arrived seconds later.

The battle lines had formed.

Seol Ah drew her sword with a sharp metallic whisper.

The cult disciples reacted instantly.

Weapons appeared.

Energy flared.

But the Cult Leader raised his hand.

"Wait."

The ritual circle paused.

His gaze remained fixed on Seo Joon.

"You came faster than expected."

Seo Joon's eyes were cold.

"You're breaking the seal."

"Yes."

The Cult Leader smiled faintly.

"That was always the plan."

Seo Joon stepped forward.

"You'll unleash something you can't control."

The Cult Leader tilted his head slightly.

"No."

"Something you can't control."

The wind roared louder across the ravine.

The cracked seal pulsed violently behind them.

The Sect Master spoke quietly.

"You seek the devouring entity."

The Cult Leader didn't deny it.

"It is the natural state of power."

His gaze shifted briefly toward the trembling formation.

"Why imprison strength when it can reshape the world?"

Seo Joon's voice hardened.

"Because it would destroy it."

The Cult Leader laughed softly.

"A matter of perspective."

Behind them—

The second seal cracked again.

A deep fracture split across the center of the formation.

Dark mist poured outward.

The devouring presence pushed harder.

The chains screamed with pressure.

The elders shouted.

"It's going to break!"

Seo Joon felt the spiritual space open again.

The Abyssal Heart pulsed uncontrollably.

Inside his mind—

The two lights appeared again.

The patient presence remained still.

The devouring one surged violently against its prison.

The chains were failing.

Back in the ravine—

The Cult Leader lifted his hand again.

"Continue."

The disciples resumed the ritual instantly.

Dark energy slammed into the formation.

The cliff face shattered further.

The chains began to dissolve.

Seol Ah turned to Seo Joon.

"If the seal breaks—"

"I know."

His eyes closed briefly.

Inside the spiritual space, the devouring entity roared louder.

The patient presence still waited silently.

As if trusting him.

Waiting for him.

Seo Joon opened his eyes.

And stepped forward.

The Abyssal Heart ignited.

Dark and silver energy spiraled around him like twin storms colliding.

The cult disciples froze momentarily.

The power radiating from him was unlike anything they had expected.

The Cult Leader's smile widened.

"So this is the vessel's true resonance."

Seo Joon raised his hand toward the seal.

The raging entity sensed him immediately.

It surged forward violently.

Chains snapped one by one.

But Seo Joon didn't release it.

He pushed back.

The Abyssal Heart expanded outward like a massive pulse.

A wave of balanced energy collided with the broken formation.

For a moment—

Everything stopped.

The storm.

The ritual.

The chains.

Even the devouring entity froze under the pressure.

Then—

The cliff exploded.

The seal shattered completely.

Stone rained down into the ravine.

The chains disintegrated.

A massive column of black energy erupted into the sky.

The devouring entity had broken free.

The cult disciples shouted triumphantly.

But their celebration died instantly.

Because the entity did not obey them.

It didn't even acknowledge them.

It only looked at one person.

Seo Joon.

Within the rising storm of darkness—

Two burning eyes opened.

Ancient.

Ravenous.

Endless hunger.

The devouring entity had awakened.

And its first target—

Was the one who had resisted it.

Seo Joon stood alone before it.

The Abyssal Heart thundered inside him.

Behind him, Seol Ah whispered in shock.

"It's free…"

The Sect Master's voice was grim.

"The balance has been broken."

The colossal shadow leaned forward slowly.

The ravine trembled beneath its presence.

Its attention locked completely onto Seo Joon.

Not rage.

Not hatred.

Recognition.

Because the force standing before it was the only thing capable of stopping it.

Or releasing it completely.

The Cult Leader watched silently.

His plan had succeeded.

But now—

The real experiment would begin.

The devouring entity extended a massive claw of condensed darkness.

The storm screamed around it.

Seo Joon didn't move.

The Abyssal Heart pulsed harder than ever before.
