The sterile smell of the hospital still clung to my clothes as Stephan and I left Grandmother's new private ward. He had personally overseen the transfer, his voice low and commanding as he spoke to the head doctor in the corridor.
I stood a few steps behind, watching the way his shoulders tensed with restrained fury.
"Under no circumstances are you to speak about what happened here today," Stephan said, his tone ice-cold.
"If I hear even a whisper reaching Henry or anyone connected to him, your career ends. Your license will be revoked before you can blink. Do you understand?"
The doctor nodded rapidly, sweat beading on his forehead. "Yes, Mr. Maxwell. I understand completely."
Stephan didn't even wait for more confirmation. He turned, placed a protective hand on the small of my back, and guided me out. Once we were in the car, he let out a long, shaky breath and rested his forehead against the steering wheel for a moment.
