Chapter 12 - Kingpin’s Shadow

Staring at the man's bizarre tight-fitting suit and the strange bullseye tattooed on his forehead, Aurelius Viremont recognized him instantly. Bullseye! The dagger from a moment ago had clearly been his handiwork.

Aurelius Viremont recalled Bullseye's history; in many iterations, he served as Kingpin's top assassin. This ambush was undoubtedly carried out on Wilson Fisk's orders.

Anyone else—even most superhumans—would have been skewered by his legendary marksmanship, but Aurelius Viremont was different. Even with his energy nearly depleted, the Six Eyes allowed him to perceive the trajectory of every projectile with ease.

Still, where did this man get his confidence? Did he truly believe a mere mortal, regardless of his skill, could assassinate him?

Bullseye stared at the white-haired man. He was strong—far stronger than anticipated. Bullseye had aimed for the head, yet even in a state of obvious exhaustion, the target had managed to dodge.

One should note that his daggers were laced with Adamantium. This alloy was incredibly hard, capable of piercing almost anything, and with its help, his throws approached supersonic speeds. For this man to dodge meant he possessed more than just spatial manipulation; he had a superhuman physique, or perhaps something more.

Had the man been at his peak, Bullseye wouldn't have dared to get close. But now, things were different!

"It seems releasing that terrifying attack took a heavy toll on you. Even your reflexes have dulled significantly," Bullseye sneered, his body trembling with excitement. "If you were at full strength, I'd be no match for you. But now... Hahaha! To kill a powerhouse with my own hands... how delightful!"

As a top-tier assassin, what could be more intoxicating than slaughtering an "invincible" god?

To his surprise, however, the man before him showed no panic. He stood there as if the threat didn't even exist. It was as if a sickly tiger was watching a house cat try to provoke it—except the gap between them was even wider than that.

An ominous feeling suddenly washed over Bullseye. He unleashed a flurry of Adamantium daggers, but the man dodged most of them with eerie grace. Finally, one dagger found its mark, grazing the man's shoulder. Bullseye felt a wave of relief.

He's not invincible anymore!

Aurelius Viremont used his last dregs of energy to reinforce his body and evade. Through the Six Eyes, he noted the unique material of the blades. He realized that it was this impossibly hard metal that allowed Bullseye to bypass his passive resistance.

Yet, he remained calm. How could a mortal hope to challenge a god? Not everyone was Iron Man.

He asked nonchalantly, "Kingpin sent you to assassinate me, didn't he?"

Bullseye didn't answer. Instead, his throws grew faster, and he drew a handgun to fire. Every shot was captured by the Six Eyes and easily sidestepped. Even without a verbal response, Aurelius Viremont observed the subtle micro-expressions and physiological shifts in the assassin, confirming his suspicion.

"If you tell me Kingpin's location, I'll let you live. How about it?" Aurelius Viremont continued.

Bullseye remained silent, his attacks becoming more frantic. He mocked, "You can barely save yourself, yet you talk of sparing me? Die!"

From nowhere, he produced a rocket launcher and fired point-blank at Aurelius Viremont.

When the rocket detonated, engulfing the area in a massive fireball, Bullseye finally let out a sigh of relief. He had to be dead. Even exhausted, the white-haired man had been incredibly persistent. He grinned—killing legends was his greatest joy.

"You seem quite happy. Did you think it was over?"

The voice echoing from the flames froze the smile on Bullseye's face. He heard the sound of concrete shattering, followed by that demonic voice again:

"I'll give you one last chance. Tell me where Kingpin is, and I'll make your death painless."

He stared in disbelief as the smoke cleared. Aurelius Viremont stood there, completely unscathed. Shrapnel from the explosion floated in the air before him, unable to bridge the final gap. Furthermore, the man had thrust his arm into the sewer wall. The dim lights in the tunnel flickered and died as the man's wounds began to knit together at a visible speed.

Bullseye realized with horror: he was absorbing electricity!

"You... you have another mutant power?!"

Faced with this reality, he turned and fled with everything he had.

Damn it! He has energy absorption on top of everything else? He can just recharge! No one can beat him! To hell with Kingpin, I'm not taking this contract. Whoever wants to die can go for it!

Suddenly, a terrifying gravitational pull seized him from behind. Despite a physique that far exceeded a normal human's, he was helpless. Under his own despairing gaze, Bullseye was yanked back and floated helplessly before Aurelius Viremont. With a casual flick of the wrist, Aurelius Viremont used gravity to cruelly snap the assassin's limbs.

The moment the rocket had been fired, Aurelius Viremont used the kinetic energy absorbed from the daggers and the trace amounts of sunlight from above to activate a brief burst of the Limitless. He then used his reinforced arm to punch through the wall, grabbing a thick power cable.

As massive amounts of electricity flooded his system, the Reverse Cursed Technique and Limitless rebooted. He was back at full strength.

The Adamantium daggers were pushed out by his rapidly regenerating flesh and clattered to the floor. Watching Bullseye attempt to flee, Aurelius Viremont smiled brightly. He curled his fingers slightly and joked:

"Bansho Ten'in! (Universal Pull)"

Once the twisted mess that was Bullseye was dragged back, Aurelius Viremont asked again:

"So? Have you reconsidered? Tell me nicely, and I'll grant you a quick end."

Bullseye looked at the "White Demon." The sapphire eyes beneath the white lashes looked back at him with pure mockery. For a split second, he thought he saw a flicker of eerie, black-red energy dancing within those beautiful eyes.

After tearing apart Bullseye's twisted body—leaving behind only a few shards of Adamantium-reinforced bone—Aurelius Viremont confirmed that the assassin didn't actually know Kingpin's current location. (Bullseye had received partial Adamantium bone implants for durability).

Kingpin was an extremely cautious man. He changed his residence daily, and not even his closest confidants knew his exact itinerary for the following day.

Aurelius Viremont shoved his hands into his pockets and continued walking through the sewer. Behind him, the floating blood and shrapnel fell to the ground with a wet thud. It was a pity not to get Kingpin's location immediately, but it didn't matter.

As his Six Eyes continued to level up, his observation range and X-ray capabilities would expand. Once his vision covered all of New York, a man like Wilson Fisk would be someone he could crush at a whim.

Using gravity, he ripped the power cables from the walls, letting them float around him as he walked so he could continuously drain them.

[Energy Points +1]

[Energy Absorption XP +1]

[Energy Absorption Lv.2 (233/300): Can absorb most forms of energy. Speed and storage capacity are average.]

Energy Absorption was nearing Level 3—his first skill to reach that milestone. What kind of change would occur at Level 3? Would it undergo an unknown evolution?
