Erica tilted her head. She has seen all of the notifications, but hadn't realised that her Abilities had levelled up that much! She quickly opened their descriptions, only to slump slightly as she discovered that nothing had changed.

Maybe they'll change at milestone levels? She thought. Oh well, now wasn't the time to worry about it. She had points to spend!

Erica noticed that her level and abilities had new numbers in brackets. It was logical to assume that those were points to the next level, right? In that case...

She assigned all twelve Ability Points to Minor Healing, and was rewarded with a pop-up.

[Congratulations! Your Ability: Minor Healing is now Level 4]

She grinned. That was one theory proven correct! Although, she was now considering that maybe she should have levelled up Protective Aura instead.

Looking at her free Skill Points, Erica decided to leave those to accumulate for a while. She might even save them to use on a new skill!

In terms of Attributes, she decided to get all of them up to 10 first, then improve where needed. She did not want to ba a glass cannon, especially since she seemed to be geared towards a supporting role. Making her decision, she put her points into Strength for now, since it was the lowest.

[7 Attribute Points assigned to Attribute: Strength Lv 5 (7/14)]

Erica nodded. That wasn't too bad. She stood up and stretched, twisting her back from side to side. Time to explore!

Of course, it was not as simple as just exploring. She was on an active military base, after all. A few lower ranked soldiers had been assigned to help the civilians settle in, so Erica was given a more thorough tour of the buildings and facilities.By late afternoon, she had a general idea of where everything was, where to avoid, and a map in her hands.

During this time, more and more people were being brought to the base and the living areas were getting crowded. Erica dodged her way back to the infirmary to see if she could help.

The moment she entered the room, one of the doctors looked up.

"You're not scheduled on yet, but we can use all the help we can get. Worst hurt are over there, more minor injuries over here."

The rest of Erica's day passed in a blur of golden light, broken bones, and burns. Many of the newcomers sat in silence, staring straight ahead. Others shook so hard their teeth chattered, and others again just talked and talked as if they had no way to stop.

She did meet three more Activators, and planned to meet up with them the next day. There were so many changes and horrible events occurring that they agreed it would help to talk to someone in the same situation.

Finally, night fell and the shift changed. Erica and the doctors washed up and trooped slowly into the mess hall. Thankfully, a new set of food was ready for those coming off shift, so they could eat fresh, hot meals to revive themselves.

After dinner, Erica stumbled back to her quarters and collapsed on her bed. She did not even feel her head hot the pillow before blackness overtook her.

The deep bugle of the Reveille woke Erica the next morning. Her back ached from the uncomfortable position she'd collapsed in. She knew she only had a limited time to get ready and have breakfast, so she rolled out of bed for a shower despite the pain.

While preparing for her day, she checked her panel again. She has been so busy treating injuries the day before that all of the notifications had been pushed to the back of her mind as 'later problems'.

Well, now it was 'later', so she had to deal with it.

As she opened her panel, her eyes widened.

[Name: Erica Julie Maynard]

[Age: 22]

[Class: Nurturer]

[Level: 10 (412/577)]

[Attributes:

Health: 7

Strength: 5 (7/14)

Spirit: 14

Mind: 14]

[Unassigned Attribute Points: 332]

[Abilities: Protective Aura Lv 2 (5/15), Healing Lv 11 (414/577)]

[Unassigned Ability Points: 666]

[Skills: Reading (12), Writing (15), Music (12), Animal Communication (12), Empathy (14), Drawing (10), Cooking (10)]

[Unassigned Skill Points: 671]

Erica's mind reeled.

What? How? We're there that many people yesterday?

However, what's the purpose of points if you don't use them?

Erica invested 7 more points in Strength to begin, getting it cleanly up to Level 6. Uncertain about the amount needed to continue to level 10, she decided to put another 100 points in, hoping to at least get to level 7 Strength.

[Congratulations! Your Attribute: Strength is now Level 7 (24/114)]

Hmm. Not exactly what I wanted, but it's a start.

With 225 spare Attribute Points left, she decided to take Strength straight to level 8, then wait and accumulate more. She didn't really like leaving her Skills and Abilities part way to the next level. The extra brackets bothered her. With enough leftover points, she also raised Health to level 8.

For the same reason, Erica spent 163 Ability Points to finish moving Healing to Level 12. She noted the change in Ability name and checked the description.

[Ability: Healing Lv 12]

[This Ability is an upgraded form of Ability: Minor Healing. Upgrade effective from Level 10]

[Due to your strong empathic talent, determination to help others, and repeated practice, you have improved your ability to accelerate the healing of injuries on others. You are now able to heal moderate injuries. The amount and speed of healing are based on your Spirit and Mind Attributes, as well as the level of this ability.]

A bright smile widened on Erica's face, and she returned to her main interface panel to continue her upgrades.
