Sarah stared at the documents lying on the desk as if they had suddenly become something dangerous. Her eyes moved repeatedly across the pages, yet she could not understand a single word written there. The letters blurred together, the black ink seeming to swim before her vision as confusion and shock slowly tightened around her chest. Her brows knitted together, and her fingers trembled slightly as she lifted one page and then another. After several long seconds, she finally raised her head and looked at Jayden.
The man sitting across from her remained perfectly calm.
Jayden's expression was unreadable, almost frighteningly composed. His dark eyes rested quietly upon her face while he waited for her answer. He neither urged her to hurry nor attempted to explain himself immediately. The contract remained between them like an invisible wall, one that neither of them knew how to cross.
