Chapter 37 - Debt 37 - A Timely Encounter With the Mage Girl

The ground remained cracked from the impact. But due to the power of the scroll, Ryan took no damage.

Without even letting go, the warrior statue hurled him through the air.

Ryan slammed against one of the trees.

And without time to react.

He was hit once again by a heavy onslaught of electrical discharges.

Ryan felt like his body was going to collapse. His mind went numb for a few moments.

Ryan could barely move. He fell face-down on the ground.

The intensity of the fire from his gloves flickered out to the bare minimum.

'Dammit... I was too arrogant, trying to attack without a plan...'

Ryan laughed weakly as he saw the statues approaching to deliver the final blow.

Once more, he reached into his pocket to check that the rest of the scrolls were still there.

"Recovery."

The warm light flooded every corner of his body.

And his health was fully restored.

"...Not that I can keep this up all day, though."

Ryan felt the exhaustion vanish in an instant. His muscles, which had felt heavy before, now felt light and charged with energy. His wounds disappeared without a trace.

"I didn't want to use it here, but..."

Ryan stood up. The fire in his gloves regained its color.

"It's about time I put an end to this."

The warrior statue approached, dragging its sword along the floor; due to the contact with the ground, the sword made a continuous, unpleasant grinding sound.

But Ryan knew this would be an endless cycle. If he didn't eliminate the healer, he would never end this fight.

Now, with his energy renewed, he felt more confident.

'So, I have two poison potions and one protection scroll left. It's a shame to have to use them, but now is no time to complain.'

Ryan deactivated his fire aura and pulled two scrolls from his pocket; upon activating them, they yielded two poison potions.

The statues didn't wait any longer; the mage's lightning bolts began to strike at him.

Ryan sprinted in a zigzag pattern to evade the spells and appeared right in front of the warrior.

"Eat this, you bastard!"

He threw one of the potions into the warrior's face. The potion dissolved into a green vapor that paralyzed the warrior.

Ryan wondered as he watched him.

Does it cause paralysis? Stun?

'I don't know what's happening, but this is my chance.'

Ryan didn't wait.

He summoned his boomerang in its complete form.

He lunged forward with a speed that surprised the statues. He ignored both the warrior and the mage.

He sprinted at full speed toward the healer.

"Fire Aura."

He charged his intense fire, compressing it over the boomerang until it glowed with a blinding intensity.

His left hand held the poison potion.

"Take this!"

He struck the healer statue in the face, causing the same paralyzing effect as the warrior with the sword.

Standing face to face with the healer.

A shadow loomed behind his back.

'I was already expecting it.'

Ryan thought, noticing the mage statue behind him about to attack.

Ryan smiled as he lunged with his flaming boomerang at the healer.

"Stone Skin"

He struck the support statue's head while it was paralyzed, and the impact was so violent that the stone exploded into pieces, crumbling to the floor.

Ryan's body glowed with thousands of particles that dissolved as the scroll's barrier broke from the attack he received while finishing off the healer statue.

When the warrior statue regained its footing, it immediately attacked Ryan, but he dodged. He sent it flying with a strike from his boomerang, leaving a hole in its chest that melted its armor with the intense fire.

Six more attacks followed, completely destroying the warrior statue.

"Now it's just you."

Ryan slammed the boomerang into the ground.

He left it embedded and took a step forward, cracking his knuckles and taking a fighting stance.

"Without the healer, you're just slow, brainless statues."

The mage attacked Ryan, but he lunged at the statue while weaving through its attacks; once he was close, the mage was channeling its spell.

But it was already at the mercy of Ryan's intense fists.

With a flurry of blows.

He finished off the mage before it could cast a final spell.

Silence returned to the floating dungeon chamber.

Ryan stood in the middle of the plaza, breathing calmly. He felt better than ever, fully restored, and thanks to that last scroll, he hadn't taken any damage that would have interrupted his plan.

'But why haven't I received any experience? Is it supposed to be this way?'

"What the hell," Ryan muttered as he felt the floating chamber.

It suddenly began to disintegrate.

The plaza floor cracked; Ryan sprinted, leaping from one spot to another to avoid the holes opening in the ground, but...

The rest of the room simply vanished.

No structure remained.

The wind whipped against him with force. Debris swirled all around him.

"Aaaaaaaaah! What the hell is this?!"

He began to fall at high speed, plummeting through the clouds without control.

The platform of the floating chamber had disappeared; no trace of it was left, only a high-speed freefall.

Ryan closed his eyes tight, remembering how he had once gone through something similar when arriving at the elven village.

He was about 15 meters from slamming into the ground of the 75th floor.

And just as he was resigned to a painful fall.

He felt himself suddenly lifted.

'Flight magic?'

Searching with his gaze as he floated, he saw the silhouette of someone holding a staff.

"Karol!"

Ryan smiled.

"Ha ha ha, what a thoughtful companion you are. I'll remember to feed you well from now on."

"Hey! Don't talk to me like I'm a pet!"

Ryan touched the ground in a controlled manner, and Karol dismissed her flight spell.

Karol clung to Ryan's arm, wrapping herself around him; his heart was still racing from the adrenaline rush of that long fall.

"So, what would you have done if I hadn't shown up?"

"True. How did you know I was here?"

"I didn't know. I just came in to take a peek at the boss room."

Ryan stared at her for a moment; she didn't have a single wound.

"Did you run into Helen and Mirian?"

"No. I was fighting on the 30th floor, but some cowardly Principality sent me here."

Ding!

The system notification suddenly popped up.
