The cavern had grown colder.
Not the natural cold of stone and shadow, but something deeper… something ancient.
Aria stood near the massive crater where Nocthar had been destroyed. The broken floor beneath her feet still carried the marks of the battle. Black cracks spread across the stone like frozen lightning.
Behind her, Rowan shifted nervously.
"I'm just saying," he muttered, "every time we stand in a creepy place like this, something terrible happens."
Aria didn't answer.
Her attention was fixed on the faint glow coming from the pendant around her neck.
The First Flame was reacting again. The dragon slowly stepped forward, its claws echoing across the hollow chamber.
"Look."
It lowered its massive head toward the center of the crater.
Aria followed its gaze.
At first she saw nothing.
Just broken rock and darkness.
But then—
something moved.
A faint line of ancient symbols appeared across the stone.
Glowing faintly.Aria frowned.
"Those weren't there before."
The dragon's golden eyes narrowed.
"They were hidden."
Rowan leaned closer.
"Hidden by what?"
The dragon spoke one quiet word.
"Magic."
Aria knelt down carefully and brushed dust away from the surface.
More symbols appeared.
A massive circle carved deep into the rock.
Runes older than any language she had ever seen.Rowan blinked.
"Okay… that's definitely a magical thing."
Aria traced one of the symbols with her fingers.
"This is a seal."
The dragon nodded slowly.
"Yes."
"A prison seal."
Rowan immediately took a step back.
"Oh fantastic."
"A prison."
"Those never contain anything friendly."
Aria looked up at the dragon."You think this sealed the Shadow Realm?"
The dragon remained silent for a moment.
Then it said quietly,
"No."
Aria felt her stomach tighten.
"Then what did it seal?"
The dragon spoke three words.
"A gateway."
The chamber went silent.
Rowan's face slowly changed.
"…A gateway?"
The dragon nodded."To the Abyss."
Aria stood up quickly.
"The Abyss?"
The dragon's voice echoed through the chamber like distant thunder.
"A realm deeper than the Shadow Realm."
"Older."
"Darker."
Rowan rubbed his face.
"Great."
"So the shadow king was just the warm-up."
Aria looked down again at the massive seal.
Or what was left of it.Because now she could clearly see it.
The circle was cracked.
Broken in several places.
The glowing runes flickered weakly like dying stars.
The seal had been shattered.
Rowan whispered,
"…That's bad, right?"
The dragon answered immediately.
"Yes."
Aria felt the pendant around her neck grow warmer again.
Almost burning."Something is coming," she whispered.
At that exact moment—
the ground trembled.
A low rumbling sound echoed from deep beneath the chamber.
Rowan grabbed his spear.
"Okay!"
"I officially vote we leave!"
But the shaking grew stronger.
Dust fell from the ceiling.
The broken seal suddenly began glowing.
Black light poured from the cracks.
Aria stepped back. The dragon spread its wings protectively.
Then—
the stone shattered.
A deep hole opened beneath the broken seal.
Endless darkness stared back from below.
And from that darkness…
something began rising.
At first it looked like smoke.
But thicker.
Darker.
Alive.
Rowan whispered,"Nope."
"I don't like that smoke either."
The black mist slowly gathered together above the crater.
Twisting.
Stretching.
Growing taller.
Until a shape finally formed.
A massive figure.
Nearly twice the height of a human.
Its body was made of swirling darkness.
Armor of black stone covered its chest and shoulders. Two enormous wings spread behind it like the night sky itself.
And its eyes—
burned with pale blue fire.
Aria's breath caught in her throat.
The dragon growled deeply.
"A being from the Abyss…"
The creature looked around the chamber slowly.
As if waking from a long sleep.
Then it spoke.
Its voice sounded like thunder inside a grave.
"Who… has broken the seal?"Rowan pointed nervously at the crater.
"…Probably him."
The creature's glowing eyes moved to Rowan.
Rowan immediately lowered his hand.
"…Or maybe not."
The creature's gaze shifted to Aria.
The moment its eyes met hers—
the First Flame exploded with heat.
Aria gasped as the pendant blazed with light.
The creature tilted its head.
"Ah…"Its voice grew quieter.
"Flame."
The dragon stepped forward with a furious roar.
"You will not cross into this world!"
The creature looked at the dragon calmly.
"And you are… the last guardian."
Aria whispered,
"Who are you?"
The creature straightened to its full height.
Dark energy swirled around it like a storm.
"I am Azrath."
"Lord of the Abyss."The chamber seemed to freeze.
Rowan blinked.
"…That name sounds extremely dangerous."
Azrath slowly looked down at the broken seal beneath him.
Then he laughed.
A deep, terrible sound.
"For centuries… this gate remained closed."
"Yet now it is broken."
The dragon snarled.
"Nocthar's death weakened the barrier."
Azrath's eyes flared brighter.
"Ah.""So the shadow king has fallen."
He smiled.
"Then the throne of darkness is empty."
Aria stepped forward with her flaming sword.
"You're not taking it."
Azrath watched the flames carefully.
"The First Flame…"
He seemed almost amused.
"The same power that wounded my brother long ago."
Aria froze.
"…Brother?"
The dragon's eyes widened."No."
Azrath's smile grew wider.
"Yes."
"Nocthar was only a king of shadows."
"I am something far older."
Rowan slowly turned to Aria.
"…So the final boss just appeared."
Azrath spread his wings slowly.
Black lightning flickered around them.
"The Abyss has waited long enough."
Aria lifted her sword.
"You're not leaving this mountain."Azrath looked at her calmly.
"You misunderstand."
He raised one hand.
And suddenly—
Aria felt something impossible.
The First Flame weakened.
The fire around her blade flickered.
Rowan noticed immediately.
"…Why is the sword getting smaller?"
Azrath's voice echoed like cold wind.
"Because the Abyss devours flame."
The dragon roared and launched forwardFire exploded from its jaws.
But Azrath simply raised his hand.
The flames stopped in midair.
Then—
they vanished.
Like a candle being blown out.
The dragon landed heavily.
Shock filled its golden eyes.
"That is impossible."
Azrath stepped forward slowly.
"In the Abyss…"
"I am absolute."Aria tightened her grip on the sword.
Even though the flame was weaker.
"We'll see about that."
Azrath looked at her with curiosity.
"Such courage."
He leaned closer slightly.
"But courage will not save you."
Rowan suddenly stepped forward.
"Okay listen."
"Maybe we don't fight right now."
"Maybe we talk."
Azrath turned his gaze toward Rowan. For a moment he looked confused.
"Talk?"
Rowan nodded quickly.
"Yes."
"Peaceful discussion."
Azrath considered this.
Then he laughed again.
"I do not negotiate with mortals."
He raised his hand again.
Dark energy gathered instantly.
The entire chamber shook violently.
Aria felt the First Flame surge again. This time stronger.
Fighting against the darkness.
Azrath noticed immediately.
His smile faded slightly.
"Interesting."
He lowered his hand slowly.
"Very interesting."
Then suddenly—
he stepped backward toward the abyssal gate.
The darkness beneath him began pulling him downward.
Aria shouted,"Wait!"
Azrath looked at her one last time.
"Our war will come soon, Flame Heir."
His blue eyes burned brighter.
"When the Abyss fully opens…"
"Your world will fall."
Then he vanished into the darkness.
The abyssal gate slowly sealed again.
The cavern fell silent.
Rowan dropped onto a rock.
"…I really hate that guy already."
Aria stared at the broken seal. Her heart was racing.
The dragon spoke quietly beside her.
"The Abyss Lord has awakened."
Aria tightened her grip on the sword.
"Then we stop him."
The dragon shook its head slowly.
"No."
Aria looked up.
"What do you mean?"
The dragon's voice became darker.
"Stopping him here will be impossible."
It looked toward the shattered gateway."If we want to end this war…"
"We must go into the Abyss itself."
Rowan groaned loudly.
"Oh fantastic."
"Another world."
"Why is it always another world?"
But far below the mountain—
deep inside the endless darkness—
Azrath opened his burning blue eyes again.
And smiled.
The war of shadows had only just begun. 🔥📖
