Part III – The Legendary Convergence
The arena was already shattered.
Cracks webbed across the stone like veins.
Both fighters stood barely upright.
Breathing rough.
Uniforms torn.
Blood marking the battlefield.
Kael tightened his grip on his spear.
Iren's daggers trembled in his hands.
Then—
Kael vanished.
A distortion rippled behind Iren—
BOOOOOOM!!!
A crushing spatial strike detonated against his back.
Iren was blasted forward, skidding violently across stone.
His daggers nearly slipped from his fingers.
CLANG—CLATTER—
He rolled to a stop near the edge of the arena.
Silence.
Heavy.
Uncomfortable.
Iren tried to rise—
His arms shook violently.
His body refused.
He barely managed to push himself halfway up.
Then collapsed to one knee.
Head lowered.
Breathing broken.
He could barely lift his arms because of his injuries.
The entire academy watched in frozen disbelief.
Kael stood several meters away.
Exhausted.
But still standing.
"…Give up," Kael said firmly.
No arrogance.
No hatred.
Just reality.
"You can't continue."
Iren didn't answer.
Blood dripped from his chin onto the stone.
Then—
A faint smile appeared on his lips.
"I already told you…"
His voice was weak.
"…I won't give up. No matter what it takes."
Kael's eyes narrowed.
"Its Over Already ."
Iren's voice grew louder.
Shaking.
But rising.
"You expect me to give up…"
He forced himself to lift his head.
"…after coming this far?"
The audience leaned forward.
"I was a homeless boy!" he shouted.
Gasps exploded through the stands.
"I lost my family! Lost everything!"
Even the teachers froze.
"And now—after crawling up to the finals of this elite tournament—you expect me to surrender?!"
Shock spread like wildfire.
Students whispered.
Teachers exchanged stunned glances.
The Headmaster's expression changed.
Understanding dawned.
So that's why…
He touched the old locket hidden beneath his robe.
Aetherion… you chose him because he walked the same path.
But there was something different.
Something extraordinary.
An unbreakable will.
An attitude that refused to kneel.
Kael stared at Iren.
Truly stunned.
"…Then I have no other option."
He stepped back.
Raised his spear.
"If you won't yield… I'll end this."
He swung.
SHOOOOOOOM!!!
A massive thrust of compressed air roared toward Iren like a dragon of invisible force.
The arena trembled.
Everything slowed.
Iren saw it.
He understood.
But his body wouldn't move.
His vision dimmed.
Sound faded.
And—
Darkness.
---
Flames.
His village burning.
He stood as a child.
Frozen.
Unable to save anyone.
Smoke choking the sky.
Then—
A hand reached toward him.
Pulling him from ruins.
Aetherion.
Training.
Day after day.
Night after night.
Falling.
Standing again.
Ignivar towering over him—
Nearly defeated—
Yet rising once more.
And finally—
Aetherion's smile.
Those proud eyes.
That silent acknowledgment before he disappeared.
---
Everything turned black.
A voice echoed from within.
"Iren… have you come this far just to fail at the end?"
Silence.
"Stand up."
"You have to win."
"Aetherion placed his faith in you."
"You have to win."
"Trespass into the domain of fire."
"Enter your rage."
"Use that might to conquer your limitations."
Then—
A sudden
Pause
Aetherion's voice layered over it.
"Rage without direction is destruction."
A pause.
"Use your rage to overcome your limitations."
"I know you can."
---
A flame ignited.
Not outside.
Inside.
Deep.
Crimson.
The ring pulsed violently.
Once.
Twice.
Then—
FWOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!!!
A pillar of fire erupted around Iren.
The incoming compressed thrust—
Burned away mid-air.
Erased before it could touch him.
The entire arena shook.
Iren was completely covered in fire.
Not burning him.
Not consuming him.
It formed around him like a shield.
Kael's eyes widened.
The audience gasped.
Teachers stood up.
The Headmaster's locket flickered wildly.
"…He reached it…"
"Level Two…"
Iren slowly stood upright.
His daggers blazed brighter than ever.
Crimson red.
The fire coating his body condensed—
Flowed—
And was absorbed into the daggers.
The flames elongated.
Extending outward—
As if two blazing long swords had formed in his hands.
Kael muttered in disbelief,
"…Despite everything… he still stood up."
Iren's head lifted.
His eyes burned red.
He roared—
The arena fell silent.
Then—
He vanished.
BOOOOM!!!
A burst of fire marked where he had stood.
The audience couldn't track him.
All they saw—
Were streaks of fire appearing across the arena floor.
Kael raised his spear—
Barely in time.
CLAAAAAANG!!!
The impact shattered the ground beneath him.
The force was overwhelming.
Before Kael could recover—
Another strike slammed into the staff of his spear.
BOOOOM!!!
The arena floor beneath Kael cracked violently.
He was forced knee-deep into fractured stone.
The recoil launched Iren upward into the sky.
Mid-air—
Iren twisted.
Then launched himself downward toward Kael.
But Kael was stuck.
He couldn't dodge.
"Spatial Shields!"
One barrier formed.
Then another.
Then dozens.
Hundreds.
Compressed air shields stacked above him in rapid succession.
Layer upon layer.
Trying to stop the descending inferno.
Iren redirected his body mid-air.
Flames wrapped around him.
He spun.
Like a blazing wheel.
Daggers extended.
He began piercing through the shields.
CRASH!
First shield shattered.
CRACK!
Second.
BOOM!
Third.
Shield after shield exploded apart.
Kael strengthened the remaining ones.
Pouring everything into them.
But nothing changed.
Iren pierced through all of them.
The entire arena stood in absolute silence.
Even the teachers.
Even the Headmaster.
No one blinked.
The final shield.
The strongest of them all.
Iren collided with it.
For a split second—
Everything froze.
Then—
BAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMM!!!
A massive shockwave erupted.
The last shield shattered.
A blinding white light engulfed the entire arena.
No one could see.
The explosion's shock threw Kael backward violently.
When the light faded—
Kael lay outside the arena boundary.
Flat on his back.
Breathing heavily.
Iren stood in the center—
Then dropped to one knee.
Still inside.
The referee's voice trembled.
"…Winner… Iren."
Silence.
Then—
The entire academy erupted.
Cheers.
Shouts.
Thunderous applause.
Teachers rose in respect.
The Headmaster stared in amazement.
"He reached Level Two of the Fire Ring… in the Finals…"
The cheering didn't stop.
---
Kael lay staring at the sky.
Then—
A hand extended toward him.
He looked up.
Iren.
Exhausted.
Bruised.
But standing.
Kael stared at him for a moment.
Then accepted.
Iren pulled him to his feet.
They stood face to face.
Kael gave a faint, tired smile.
"You didn't just overpower me."
Iren shook his head lightly.
"You pushed me there."
Kael exhaled.
"…Despite everything I threw at you… you still stood."
Iren replied softly,
"And despite everything… you nearly defeated me."
A pause.
Mutual respect.
Kael nodded.
"In another match… the result might be different."
Iren smiled faintly.
"I'd expect nothing less."
Kael stepped away.
Leaving the arena with dignity.
---
The Headmaster and teachers entered the arena.
Applause echoed endlessly.
The Headmaster handed Iren the tournament trophy.
"You have achieved something unprecedented."
Iren looked at it quietly.
Flames resting.
Controlled.
Directed.
The legendary match of the tournament ended.
