Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: The Warmth of the Sun

For Kurama, it was probably better to talk to the human than let himself drift off from boredom, but something kept him from sleeping. He heard the soft voice of a woman standing in front of Damon, a woman he had never seen in his life. And the fact that he could not sense her presence as she approached Damon made him stay awake and listen.

"You look good, Damon," said the woman's voice.

Damon recognized it immediately and stopped what he was doing, though he kept his eyes closed, knowing he would have to stop meditating for later.

When the woman's name reached Kurama's ears, his eyes widened. He might actually be in the presence of the Queen of the Gods, and this scene might be the one that proved Damon had not lied to him at all.

"What a lucky day. I get the pleasure of seeing the Queen of the Gods in person. To what do I owe this honor?" Damon asked with a smile.

Amaterasu smiled back. "Can't a goddess visit her lover?" she asked playfully as she stepped closer and wrapped her arms around the blond, breathing in the scent she liked so much. "I missed you, you know."

Damon returned the embrace with a smile. "I missed you too, Ama."

Kurama was still wide-eyed from everything Damon had just told him. This was definitely not what he had expected to see.

Hah... at least my Jinchuriki knows how to choose, the fox thought, sounding almost proud before cutting the connection and giving them some privacy.

The relationship between Damon and Amaterasu had gone a long way over the centuries. By now, they knew each other well enough to understand one simple truth: neither of them could live without the other.

And Damon agreed with that completely.

If he had never met Amaterasu all those years ago, he had no idea what would have become of him. Not to mention he would probably still be swinging his katana around like it was just a stick. He owed this woman more than he could ever put into words, and because of that, he knew he would always love her.

Without saying anything else, Damon sat down against a tree and pulled the goddess onto his lap, one arm wrapping around her waist.

Damon laughed quietly to himself.

To everyone else, Amaterasu was a queen who ruled the Shinto pantheon with an iron fist, but when it was just the two of them, the story was very different.

The goddess relaxed in the arms of the person she loved most. If anyone saw her like this right now, it would be a blow to her pride... but what could she do? Damon was the only person capable of making all her defenses fall.

"What's wrong? You look a little stressed... not to mention you rarely come down from Takamagahara," Damon said while gently stroking the black-haired goddess.

"It's nothing," Amaterasu replied, though the slight blush on her cheeks betrayed her. "Just responsibilities. They become more suffocating every day, especially with everything happening in the supernatural world... Besides, I wanted to be with you."

"Don't think too much about that right now. Just focus on me... on the present, alright?"

Amaterasu only nodded before showing a small but sweet smile.

To her, Damon was perfect, worthy of being her lover and her companion for all eternity. She would not trade him for anything. To the point that she did not even mind sharing him with others, something she had already shown through the different lovers Damon had throughout his lives, like Mito and Kushina... he could have his adventures.

That said, she would never allow him to become some shameless bastard.

But she did not really worry about that.

After all, Damon was not Zeus.

Letting out a soft sigh, she leaned closer into him.

"By the way, you should visit Uzushiogakure. You might find something interesting there," Amaterasu said with a mysterious smile.

Damon blinked, not expecting that, but he only nodded, preferring to enjoy the warmth of his companion instead of asking questions.

(yall though they were gonna fck hahahahahah)

Unknown Location

Nine black figures, distinguishable only by their eyes, were standing in a circle inside a rather dark cave.

"There are only six months left before we can begin collecting the nine Bijuu," said the figure with purple eyes. "Kakuzu, Hidan, keep gathering money."

A maniacal smile appeared on one of the named men's faces.

"Jashin-sama will be pleased with the new sacrifices."

"I doubt a god who doesn't exist can be pleased," replied a strange figure with red and green eyes in a deep, hoarse voice.

"BLASPHEMY!" Hidan shouted angrily.

The man with the strange eyes glared at him.

"As long as we keep bringing in heads worth a high bounty, you can sacrifice them to a rock for all I care," he said coldly.

Hidan tried to answer, but he was interrupted by the man with purple eyes.

"Deidara, Sasori, you will be the first to move. Your target is the Ichibi's Jinchuriki, currently the Kazekage. With Sasori's infiltrators, it will be easy to get close to Suna without being detected."

The two named men nodded, and he continued:

"The rest of you, continue with what you are currently doing. That is all, you may leave... Zetsu, we need to talk."

"Yes, Leader-sama," they all replied in unison, disappearing from the grim place and leaving only three figures behind.

The plant-like figure, deducing why they wanted to speak with him, immediately began reporting his newest discoveries.

"The Kyuubi's Jinchuriki is currently being trained by the Sannin Jiraiya, but his location is unknown. Jiraiya is very good at hiding... Pain, they could become a problem in the future..."

"Problem or not, they cannot stand against the power of a god... We must capture them and seal them in the Gedo Mazo in order, from the Ichibi to the Kyuubi," replied the man now known as Pain. "If the Kyuubi's Jinchuriki causes trouble, I will personally go after him."

"As you wish, Leader-sama," said the plant-man with a slight bow before being swallowed by the earth.

The woman who had remained silent the entire time finally spoke once they were alone.

"Nagato, do not be too confident. If Jiraiya-sensei chose him as his student, there is a reason," she said stoically.

"He will never equal the power of a god."

Back to Damon

Damon was currently traveling at high speed, jumping from tree branch to tree branch on his way back to the village where Jiraiya was staying... most likely in a brothel, surrounded by numerous women.

"I'm starting to believe everything you told me," a deep voice echoed inside his head.

Damon placed a hand over his chest, right above his heart, and replied in a falsely wounded tone:

"So it took a pretty face for you to believe me? I thought we were friends."

The Nine-Tails growled at his Jinchuriki's nonsense. "What are you going to do?"

"With what?"

"Uzushiogakure."

Damon stayed quiet for a moment, thinking back to Amaterasu's words about Uzushiogakure. She had never given him bad advice, and if she believed there was something there worth finding, then he had no reason to ignore it. Going back to the village first would only waste time, and dragging Jiraiya along would turn something simple into a headache.

A wood clone would be enough to keep the old man busy for a while.

With that thought in mind, Damon made his choice. Before returning to Konoha, he would make a stop in Uzushiogakure.

We can find a room with several presences watching through a kind of opening that showed Damon making his way to Uzushiogakure.

"It depends on him. He says that this time he will succeed," said the sweet voice of a woman.

"That's what he said before going to his new body... he looked very confident and eager to begin. Amaterasu trusts him a lot," replied a man with a playful smile when he mentioned Amaterasu.

"Not just her, Tsukuyomi. That boy has earned the trust of many different deities behind him... over time, he has even earned mine," said the strong voice of a man with a laugh. To say that he had been surprised when he saw how many primordials and other beings were interested in him would be an understatement; he had never expected it.

Izanagi had lived a long time and had seen much, but never anything like this. Chaos herself had become interested in someone. The only thing that truly interested the primordial of creation was creating other worlds from those already known, so why would she be interested in a son of two Titans?

He never managed to understand it, but that did not stop him from observing him throughout all this time. He watched him grow, act, and mature. That did not surprise him... from his point of view that was normal.

The first day he saw him, he had been an insecure person who preferred to run from his problems rather than face them himself. But when he saw how life truly was, he had to mature by force. Yet observing him closely and seeing how he gave up his own happiness just to make the people he cared about happy without thinking twice was astonishing.

But what he could not truly understand was how everything came to him so quickly. He seemed like a dry sponge feeding on knowledge to make himself stronger... how did he learn so fast? That question always came to his mind every time he saw him act.

He learned to control his domains in little time... very little time... any attack shown to him, or if you gave him a new weapon, he handled it as if he had carried it since birth.

In just a few years, the greatest example was Chakra, a power present in all worlds but used only by a few and for which someone born in worlds where it was not used would normally need at least 500 years just to sense it. And once it was explained to him what it was and how to use it, since it was necessary for him to go to the mortal world, he learned to control it in less than 40 years.

How could that be possible? Even he himself would take more than 100 years to use it properly. For someone who had lived thousands of years, that was little time, but it still did not take away from the Damons' merit for surpassing, in one aspect, the strongest figure of the Shinto pantheon along side izanami.

Amaterasu shot Tsukuyomi a glare for understanding the reference. "Trusting him is the least I can do. He has proven that he deserves that and more."

She sighed. "You're no fun, little sister," Tsukuyomi replied, pretending to use a childish voice.

Those present in the room watched the interactions between Tsukuyomi and Amaterasu. Some laughed, while others only sweated awkwardly at Tsukuyomi's behavior, recognized as the cleverest god, though sometimes his attitude left much to be desired.

"What worries me most is his plan... why let Zetsu manipulate Madara? I can't understand it no matter how much I try," one of those present voiced his concern.

"I don't know, Susanoo... all that's left is to wait and watch," Izanagi replied, looking at his son with his arms crossed and his face wrinkled, as if trying to figure out Damon's plan himself.
