Chapter 68 - Chpt 62: Tectonic Maw

The Tangelo interior was a land of contradictions. One hundred yards from the neon-green canopy, the earth split into a jagged, steaming scar known as the Obsidian Fissure. Here, the B-Rank Gate's radiation didn't manifest as light, but as raw, geothermal pressure. The air was a shimmering haze of sulfur and volcanic glass.

"Data-Zero, thermal mapping," Zeth commanded, his voice muffled by a heavy-duty respirator. "I need the exact coordinates of the 'Magma-Gall' signature."

[Thermal Scan: Complete. The component is hosted by a Tangelo-Variant Magcargo (Lvl 55). Location: 200 meters below the primary crust. Warning: Ambient temperature is 400°C. Structural integrity of standard gear is at risk.]

"Rhyhorn, you're the anchor. Cloyster, you're the cooling system."

Zeth didn't use a rope. He relied on the Rhyhorn (Lvl 38). The Pokémon's Rock Head ability had been tempered by the 3G gravity drills, its hide now resembling a slab of reinforced granite. It dug its powerful claws into the basalt walls, slowly descending into the glowing orange throat of the fissure.

Strapped to the Rhyhorn's back was the Zenith Cloyster (Lvl 42). Its shell was clamped shut, but a constant, freezing mist hissed from its vents.

[Ability Interaction: Thermal Equilibrium. Cloyster's 'Skill Link' is pulsing a high-frequency vapor-barrier to protect Rhyhorn's joints from the 400°C heat.]

As they reached the sub-strata, the orange glow turned a blinding white. The Magcargo (Lvl 55) wasn't just a snail; it was a mobile furnace. Its shell was made of compressed, cooling magma that pulsed with a rhythmic, solar-core light. It sat atop a bubbling pool of liquid rock, slowly "digesting" the B-Rank Gate's mineral deposits.

"Rhyhorn, Bulldoze! Shatter its footing!"

The Rhyhorn slammed its front hooves into the narrow ledge. The shockwave tore through the basalt, sending a shower of stone into the lava. The Magcargo didn't flinch; it simply exhaled a Lava Plume that turned the falling rocks into slag mid-air.

"Cloyster, Icicle Spear—Armor-Piercing! Use the steam as a shroud!"

The Cloyster's shell fractured open. Thwip-thwip-thwip-thwip-thwip! Under the extreme heat, the ice spears should have turned to vapor instantly. But the Cloyster's 64% Mastery allowed it to wrap each spear in a high-pressure water-jacket. The projectiles hissed through the air, striking the Magcargo's magma-shell.

CRAAA-CRACK.

The rapid cooling caused the Magcargo's shell to fracture, crystalline steam exploding outward. The snail-type let out a low, vibrating groan, its internal "Gall"—the glowing core of its heat—becoming visible through the cracks.

"Rhyhorn, Take Down! Use the Rock Head to bridge the gap!"

The Rhyhorn launched itself across the magma-pool. It didn't care about the heat; its 50% Mastered Rock Head turned its entire body into a kinetic battering ram. It slammed into the Magcargo's side, the impact shaking the entire fissure.

The Magcargo attempted a desperate Recover, the surrounding lava flowing toward its broken shell to seal the wounds.

"Don't let it reset! Cloyster, Hydro Pump—Saturation fire!"

The Cloyster unleashed a massive, swirling torrent of water. It didn't aim for the Magcargo; it aimed for the lava around it. The liquid rock flash-froze into obsidian, trapping the Magcargo in a cage of its own cooling armor.

Zeth moved. He climbed down from the Rhyhorn's back, his boots smoking as they touched the hot stone. Using a specialized obsidian-tipped extractor, he reached into the Magcargo's fractured shell and pulled out a pulsing, orange-white stone—the Magma-Gall.

"Data-Zero, confirm purity."

[Item: Magma-Gall (High Purity). Potential: Catalyst Component. This item can be used to fuse Fire and Ground-type masteries. Purity: 94%.]

Zeth secured the stone in a thermal-containment unit. He looked at the Rhyhorn, whose hide was scorched but firm, and the Cloyster, whose shell was covered in a layer of volcanic soot.

"We have three," Zeth said, his breath coming in ragged gasps. "One more. Then we enter the Gate."

[Level Up: Rhyhorn 38 → 40. Cloyster 42 → 43. Mastery: Rock Head (50% → 53%).]

The ground beneath them groaned—a deep, tectonic shift. The B-Rank Gate was reacting to the loss of its heat-sink.

"Recall! Rhyhorn, get us out of here before the crust collapses!"

The final component wasn't in the earth or the sea. It was suspended in the Aether-Belt, a layer of the atmosphere where the B-Rank Gate's violet radiation collided with the tropical storm cells of the Orange Archipelago. To reach it, Zeth had to climb the Volt-Spire Peaks, a jagged mountain range on the northern tip of Tangelo that acted as a natural lightning rod for the rift's energy.

The air here didn't just smell like ozone; it tasted like copper. Every hair on Zeth's arms stood on end as the clouds swirled in a violent, electric violet.

[Atmospheric Warning: High-Frequency Static. Level 56 Galvantula (Tangelo-Variant) detected in the 'Storm-Webs' at the summit. Component: Aether-Silk.]

"Houndoom, Cloyster—front and center. We're fighting on a wire."

The summit wasn't solid ground. It was a massive, sprawling network of glowing, electrified silk that spanned the gaps between the mountain peaks. Suspended in the center of this "Static Cathedral" was the Galvantula (Lvl 56).

Unlike its smaller Unovan cousins, this variant was the size of a transport truck. Its fur wasn't yellow; it was a shimmering, metallic gold that pulsed with white lightning every time the Gate flickered. Its eyes were six orbs of pure, electric violet.

"Houndoom, Flash Fire! Draw the static!"

The Houndoom (Lvl 46) stepped onto the silk webbing. The moment its paws touched the electrified strands, a surge of gold lightning traveled up its legs. Instead of recoiling, the Houndoom roared, its internal furnace roaring to life. Its fur began to glow with a brilliant, white-hot intensity as it "ate" the ambient electricity to fuel its own flames.

[Ability Mastery: Flash Fire (45% → 48%). Houndoom is now acting as a grounded thermal-conductor.]

The Galvantula hissed, a sound like a short-circuiting power grid. It unleashed a Thunderbolt so thick it resembled a solid pillar of light.

"Cloyster, Protect! Full-Vapor Wall!"

The Zenith Cloyster (Lvl 43) snapped open. It didn't just create a barrier; it vented a high-pressure mist of saltwater. The lightning struck the mist, the conductivity of the salt scattering the electrical discharge harmlessly into the surrounding clouds.

"Now! Houndoom, Dark Pulse—Linear Focus!"

The Houndoom unleashed a beam of jagged, black energy. Because of the Flash Fire boost, the beam was wreathed in white flames. It tore through the electrified webbing, melting the silk and forcing the Galvantula to scramble toward the center of the spire.

"Don't let it reset! Cloyster, Icicle Spear—Armor-Piercing!"

Thwip-thwip-thwip-thwip-thwip!

The black-ice bolts streaked through the storm. The Galvantula tried to dodge, its Unnerve ability pulsing to rattle the Cloyster's aim, but the Cloyster's 64% Mastery was too stable. Three spears slammed into the spider's metallic carapace, cracking the gold chitin and revealing the glowing, violet spinnerets beneath.

The Galvantula, realizing its territory was being dismantled, gathered all the static in the area for a final Electroweb. The sky turned white as the spider prepared to collapse the entire cathedral on top of them.

"Houndoom, Overheat—Thermal Vacuum!"

The Houndoom didn't aim at the spider. It unleashed a massive dome of fire that consumed the oxygen and the static in the immediate area. The sudden drop in air pressure caused the electrical web to snap and implode.

Zeth moved across the vibrating silk, his boots insulated by rubberized lead. As the Galvantula lay stunned from its own energy backlash, Zeth used a specialized ceramic blade to cut the primary strand hanging from its spinnerets—the Aether-Silk.

It wasn't a thread; it was a glowing, translucent cord of pure spatial energy, humming with the frequency of the B-Rank Gate.

"Data-Zero, confirm the set."

[Item: Aether-Silk (High Purity). Potential: Catalyst Component. This item can bridge the gap between biological and spatial energy. All four components secured: Void-Root, Stellar-Scale, Magma-Gall, Aether-Silk.]

Zeth looked at his team. The Houndoom's fur was singed, and the Cloyster's shell was pitted from the salt-mist reaction. They were exhausted, but their eyes were bright with the densified power of the 3G training and the Alpha hunts.

"We have the components," Zeth said, the wind whipping his hood back to reveal a face hardened by the island's trials. "The 'Orange Crew' frequency is set. Data-Zero, plot the vector for the heart of the B-Rank Rift."

The violet light of the Gate began to swirl into a vortex, sensing the approach of the components that had been stolen from its ecosystem.

[Level Up: Houndoom 46 → 48. Cloyster 43 → 44. Mastery: Flash Fire (48% → 50%).]
