Chapter 147: Playing Pretty Wild
"What is this?" Kanzaki Aoi asked, her eyes still red as she stared at the parchment Suyan had conjured out of thin air.
Suyan rolled his eyes playfully. "A deed of servitude. Sign it or don't."
Aoi froze. A thousand thoughts raced through her mind. Was this why he wasn't going to kill her? She had to sell herself? Looking down at her pathetic state, a wave of resignation washed over her.
She gritted her teeth. Fine, I'll sell myself! I'm already ruined anyway!
"I'm kidding, though it's practically the same thing," Suyan waved his hand, explaining simply. "What I can tell you is that both Kanae and Shinobu have already signed it. Once you write your name on it, your future will be completely bound to mine. More importantly, signing this will perfectly solve your current predicament. You don't want the rest of the Demon Slayer Corps knowing about your little accident, do you?"
"I'll sign! I'll sign it!"
Hearing that, Aoi practically snatched the Contract Parchment and pen from his hands and decisively wrote down her name.
"A wise decision," Suyan praised.
After signing, Aoi looked back at him, asking hesitantly, "Is this enough—"
Before she could finish, the Contract Parchment dissolved into a streak of light and entered her brow. The details she hadn't had time to read flooded into her mind.
Aoi was enlightened. This wasn't a deed of servitude at all. On the contrary, it was a sacred bond, far more profound than any wedding vow. She especially noted the clause stating that if a Contracted partner died, Suyan could choose to expend his Nen to resurrect them.
So this is why Lady Shinobu and Kanae-nee chose to bind themselves to him, she thought.
It was worth noting that the Contract now stated Suyan could choose to expend Nen for resurrection, rather than the mandatory absolute requirement he had initially set. This was the harvest of love he had reaped over the past year in the Highschool of the Dead world. Because of his partners' actions, Suyan learned that the conditions of his Contract could be modified.
Takagi Yuriko had been the first to bring it up. The six Contracted partners had passed a unanimous vote, using their intense love and a highly idealistic, almost miraculous application of Vow and Limitation to overwrite and modify the core rules of his Nen ability.
Their reasoning was simple: they knew Suyan would never hesitate to resurrect them as long as he loved them. But if, for some extreme reason in the future, they changed or became a blade aimed at his heart, that mandatory resurrection clause would become his greatest shackle. They refused to allow that. Thus, the mandatory resurrection was altered to an optional one. The core rule remained the same: each partner could only be resurrected once, and upon their death, any Nen abilities Suyan had synchronized from them would vanish.
This act successfully transformed what was once a unilateral Vow and Limitation placed solely on Suyan into a collective pact shared between him and all his partners. Perhaps this was why his ability had evolved to include Greed Island—much like how the original Greed Island in Hunter x Hunter was a massive Vow and Limitation created by thirteen elite Nen masters.
None of this mattered to Aoi right now. Her only thought was an overwhelming sense of relief that she didn't have to worry about never getting married. It was a miracle!
Tears welled up in Aoi's eyes as she looked at him. "Suyan-sama..."
"Stop! Save the chitchat for later. Let's get you changed into some clean clothes." Suyan reached out, pinching her upper and lower lips with his thumb and index finger to silence her.
He materialized the Dimensional Gate, grabbed her hand, and stepped through into Greed Island.
Funnily enough, out of all the girls in the Butterfly Mansion, the first to enter Greed Island wasn't the Kocho sisters, nor the easily swayed Tsuyuri Kanao, but the only girl he hadn't kissed yet: Kanzaki Aoi.
The moment she stepped into Greed Island, information about this realm naturally populated her mind. Her mouth fell wide open. For a girl from the Taisho Era, the impact of this knowledge was Earth-shattering.
A massive, private world belonging exclusively to Suyan?! This was a divine miracle! Was Suyan a God? No wonder he could perform miracles like bringing Kanae back to life. Did that make her, his Contracted partner, a shrine maiden?
A shrine maiden who accidentally peed on her God? Aoi's eyes darted away; she quickly lowered her head, too terrified to delve deeper into that line of thought.
Suyan didn't notice her internal crisis; he was too busy feeling confused. Usually, the YukimiBotamons would swarm him the moment he entered Greed Island. But this time, it was dead quiet. Have they stopped loving me? Scanning the area, he quickly spotted the two YukimiBotamons with their fur puffed up, glaring aggressively at the large block of metal he had tossed in here earlier.
Suyan couldn't make heads or tails of it, but he decided not to overthink it. It was probably for the best they didn't jump on him anyway, since he wasn't exactly clean right now. He didn't disturb them and dragged Aoi toward the bathhouse.
As luck would have it, they bumped right into Takagi Yuriko, who had just woken up.
Yuriko glanced at Suyan and Aoi's soaked lower halves, her eyes gleaming with amusement. She teased, "Little Suyan, a new sister? Didn't expect you to play so wild~"
