What solves misunderstandings? Cold hard cash, obviously!
Yeah, God doesn't need money, but His messengers still gotta eat.
So after Lawson handed priest thousand bucks, guy's attitude instantly flipped.
"Ahem! You two want to keep playing confession? I can step out and pretend I saw nothing!"
Damn! Priest seemed to know exactly what was up.
But Sofia already figured out what was happening. Glared at Lawson, turned, and prepared to leave.
Lawson quickly blocked her path.
"Mrs. Bonanno, I have way to handle Francis Ricci. We should work together!"
"You know my name?" Sofia stared at Lawson, highly on guard.
Course Lawson knew Sofia. To get intel on her, Lawson put in serious work on Svafa, finally getting info before dawn.
When Lawson first saw Sofia—looking like prime Monica Bellucci—he was absolutely stunned.
No wonder Old Martin did everything possible to get her. Woman definitely possessed vibe men couldn't resist.
"Sorry, Mrs. Bonanno. Did a little digging into your background."
Unfortunately, Lawson's stunt posing as priest heavily repelled devout Catholic Sofia. She still rejected him.
"Sir, keep harassing me and I'm calling my bodyguards!"
Lawson saw absolute resolve in her eyes. Knew he wasn't getting anywhere today. Stepped back to avoid spooking her.
"Mrs. Bonanno, maybe what just happened caused misunderstanding, but I genuinely want to work together! Here's my number. If you change your mind, call me."
Sofia didn't want to take his number, but Lawson stood firm, clearly not letting her leave until she took it.
Based on her past, Sofia clearly wasn't tough woman. Didn't want to blow things up, so she reluctantly took number and shoved it in her pocket.
"Satisfied? I'm going home!"
Lawson stopped blocking her. Sofia put on sunglasses and headed for church entrance.
Watching dark-haired woman walk away, Lawson called out.
"Mrs. Bonanno, running won't work! You have to face reality eventually!"
That made Sofia pause. Then woman muttered Italian curse.
"Cazzo!"
After cursing, Sofia left church without looking back.
Faint smile crept onto Lawson's face. Even though meeting somewhat failed, he successfully planted seed in Sofia's mind.
Now just needed to wait for seed to sprout.
But Lawson wasn't just sitting around waiting. Had to prep backups and Plan B. Seeds don't always grow.
Lawson headed for church's back door to dodge Mafia goons. Turned around and saw that same priest standing right behind him.
"What do you want?"
"Kid, trying to pick up chicks like that ain't gonna work!"
Lawson glanced at fifty-something priest, looking completely speechless.
"What, priest gonna teach me how to pull women?"
"Heh! Back when I was pulling nuns, you were probably... Ahem! Never mind. Un héros ne vante ses exploits!"
"What the hell are you babbling about?"
Since arriving in America, Lawson only picked up spoken English. Knew absolutely zero French.
"In your terms, means 'real men don't brag about past glory'."
Priest's perfect Mandarin completely shocked Lawson. Sounded exactly like professional news anchor.
"Your Mandarin... wait, how did you know "
"Well, dated girl back in my youth. Incredibly romantic memories... Ahem! Why am I talking about this! Kid, interested in joining Catholic Church? With your face, you'd make killer priest!"
Learning foreign language by dating? Actually brilliant fucking method!
Lawson thought about deeply studying Nordic languages with Svafa later, and practicing English slang with Black.
"Not interested! Sorry, got shit to do. I'm out!"
"Kid, don't rush off! Lots of perks to joining church. I know plenty of convents with gorgeous nuns!"
Didn't sound like priest at all. Total dirty old man.
Lawson finally understood why guy sounded so experienced earlier.
Leaving St. Mary's Cathedral through back door, Lawson immediately threw on Hostility Sunglasses for quick disguise.
Even though Bonanno family and FBI were currently hyper-focused on Little Martin's murder case, Lawson figured playing it safe was best.
Getting back into his heavily modified used Dodge Viper, Lawson pulled out phone and dialed.
"Hello, Toretto's Cafe."
"Mia, it's Lawson."
Voice on other end instantly lit up with surprise.
"Lawson, you calling for me?"
"Uh, actually looking for Dominic, but his phone is off."
That instantly killed Mia's mood. Tone went ice cold.
"My brother crashed during race other day. Lost his phone. That's why you can't reach him."
"Seriously? Mia, I want to come visit him."
Line went dead immediately.
Lawson sighed. Knew Mia was pissed.
No choice. Lawson hit up nearby florist, bought massive bouquet of pink roses, and drove to Toretto's Cafe.
When Mia saw Lawson walk in, she rolled her eyes. But seeing pink roses, her expression softened slightly.
"Ms. Toretto, guy named Lawson sent you these flowers. Please sign for them."
Lawson deliberately mimicked delivery guy. Successfully made her laugh.
"These really for me? Not for my brother?"
"Mia, don't joke like that! If I gave Dominic flowers, he'd literally hunt me down with shotgun!"
Mia burst out laughing.
"Hahaha! He absolutely would! Lawson, why haven't you called me last few days?"
"Mia, ran into some heat recently. Didn't want to drag you into it! Looking for Dominic to help sort this shit out."
Hearing that, Mia instantly felt bad.
"Oh! I'll take you to him right now!"
(Mia Toretto)
