Chapter 178 - Chapter 178: The Apex Operative

"Hey, Shane. Let's talk about this match. You scored a hat-trick. How are you feeling?"

"Great," Shane responded.

"What's your take on Dani Alves's red card?"

"The referee made the right call." Shane shrugged.

"But before the red card, you kept targeting him one-on-one. Do you have a personal issue with him? Was his breakdown a result of that?"

"It was purely tactical. We focused our attacks on that side because it was Barcelona's weakest point. Exploiting an opponent's weakness is standard strategy." Shane shook his head, maintaining an expression of clinical detachment. "I have no personal problem with Dani Alves. We targeted his defensive sector simply because he's fragile."

Shane paused, letting the words sink in. Before the surrounding Catalan media could recalibrate their horrified expressions, he continued:

"The results speak for themselves. Alves is clearly a player with not only serious defensive limitations but also mental problems. Did you see his complete meltdown? That final tackle wasn't football. I think he should try mixed martial arts. His ground game seems decent. I hope his body can take a hit so he doesn't get destroyed in the octagon. In football, I'm not allowed to hit back. I plan to play the next game. But some players won't be playing the next game, or the one after that, or maybe even the one after that."

Shane's unfiltered comments caused several media members to break protocol and laugh.

Simultaneously, across the global broadcast, countless Atlético Madrid fans were slapping their thighs in euphoric agreement.

Inside the home dressing room, Dani Alves stared at the monitor, his face twisted with rage, watching Shane casually dismantle his reputation while surrounded by Spanish and American media.

"That goddamn bastard."

Alves clenched his fists. He was trapped in a state of impotent rage. He gritted his teeth, mentally plotting revenge. But he would have to wait until the second half of the season, when the two teams met again at the Vicente Calderón.

The animosity between him and Shane Carter was now permanently encoded into the rivalry.

The majority of Barcelona's players avoided the media. Consequently, it was captain Xavi who was forced to face the press.

"Our performance was poor in many areas. Our defense failed to contain Shane. We gave him too much space." Xavi shook his head slowly.

"What's your take on Alves's red card?" a reporter asked.

Xavi understood this was unavoidable. His response was brutally direct.

"At that moment, Dani made an incredibly stupid decision. That single action killed our chances of coming back at home."

As the captain of Barcelona and the core of the Spanish national team, Xavi offered no protection for his teammate. In his honest assessment, it was a disastrous decision. As a player renowned for his composure, Xavi simply couldn't understand what Alves was thinking in that moment. His appendix? His hemorrhoids? It certainly wasn't his brain.

During the official post-match press conference, Diego Simeone used his allocated time almost exclusively to verbally dismantle Dani Alves.

Conversely, the Barcelona manager formally acknowledged the defeat.

"We are now three points behind Atlético Madrid in the standings. From this point, Barcelona is the chasing team. We have no room for error in the upcoming matches."

"Alves? His actions violated the rules, so he received a red card. That's the final word."

"Do you expect additional punishment?"

"That's a decision for the league officials."

The manager declined to elaborate further.

After the match, the results dominated the headlines across Spain and the global sports media.

[MARCA]: God-Tier Performance. Shane Carter Scores 3 Goals and 1 Assist to Dismantle Barcelona at Camp Nou.

[AS]: 4-2. Atlético Conquers Camp Nou. Shane Controls the Game.

The two major media outlets in Madrid were now begrudgingly writing positive stories about Atlético and Shane. Ultimately, watching a Madrid-based team humiliate Barcelona generated immense satisfaction for the capital.

Media outlets globally escalated their coverage of Shane's brilliance.

Meanwhile, Alves's reckless tackle trended across international social networks. Fans flooded Alves's social media accounts, unleashing verbal attacks. Their comments lacked any diplomatic filters.

Consequently, Alves attempted to use the media to reframe the narrative.

"I am the victim of a coordinated attack. My family is being subjected to abuse."

The Catalan media instantly amplified this, trying to paint Alves as the primary victim. Naturally, the media and fans outside Catalonia refused to accept that twisted logic.

In objective reality, the La Liga disciplinary committee published its final ruling the very next day. For executing a violent tackle resulting in a straight red card, Dani Alves received the standard three-match suspension plus an additional one-match penalty.

Total: a four-match ban.

This ruling generated significant dissatisfaction among Shane's supporters. They believed a tackle that could have broken a leg deserved a far harsher punishment than a four-match suspension. However, they had no power to override the official ruling.

With Matchday 16 complete, Atlético Madrid had secured a stunning 15 victories and only one draw. With 46 points, they sat alone at the summit of the standings.

Barcelona occupied second place with 43 points.

Real Madrid, validating their status as an elite club despite a disastrous start, had fought their way back to third place. Real Madrid had 35 points, a massive 12-point deficit behind Atlético and 9 points behind Barcelona. However, they maintained a comfortable 7-point advantage over fourth-place Málaga.

Below Málaga, Real Betis (5th) and Levante (6th) both had 28 points. Getafe (7th) had 27 points. The gap widened significantly after 8th place. Real Valladolid (8th) had just 22 points.

The La Liga standings had stratified into clearly defined tiers:

The Title Contenders: Atlético Madrid, Barcelona.

The Isolation Tier (3rd): Real Madrid.

The European Chase: Málaga, Real Betis, Levante, Getafe.

The Mid-Table Void.

The Relegation Zone: A cluster of struggling teams scraping by on 12-13 points.

Analyzing the individual statistics, the top three scorers had established massive separation from the rest.

Rank 1: Lionel Messi — 18 Goals.

Rank 2 (Tie): Cristiano Ronaldo, Shane Carter — 16 Goals.

Diego Costa occupied 4th place with 12 goals, though most of his output was created by Shane's assists.

But looking at the assist leaderboard, Shane's dominance was absolute.

Across 15 of the 16 matches, he had produced 13 assists. This put him light-years ahead of second-place Mesut Özil, who had only 7 assists.

In the combined metric of direct goal contributions (goals + assists), Shane's output of 16 goals and 13 assists crushed every single player in La Liga, firmly placing him at the absolute summit.

"He is currently the best player in the entire La Liga. His ability exceeds every other player in the league."

Fernando Hierro, the legendary Spanish defender, stated with absolute certainty during a live broadcast analysis.
