To Eulryk, all other branches were essentially magic casters who could only use "prepared food" to cast their spells.
Whether it was a Magic-type, Faith-type, or Psychic-type caster, once the mana was released to cast a spell, it was up to them to perform the final step: converting that mana into the corresponding attribute. This meant the six elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Wind, Positive Energy, and Negative Energy. This versatility meant the three primary branches were generally more well-rounded. Even a priest, for example, possessed the ability to summon the undead, though they were nowhere near as efficient as a specialized Necromancer of the Magic-type.
The "Other" branches were different; their mana was largely fixed and lacked the flexibility to complete such attribute conversions. For instance, a Paladin's blessing magic was almost exclusively tied to Positive Energy, while a Fallen Knight's spells were tied to Negative Energy. It was extremely difficult for either to cross into the other's system.
Furthermore, for the three primary branches, "opposing" magic rarely existed. A Priest might seem like the mortal enemy of the undead, but they could actually learn spells like [Control Amnesiac], [Open Wounds], or [Curse] with very little hindrance. Other similar systems included Bards and Elemental Summoners, who had specialized in specific mana forms to gain strength in a particular area.
Having read this far, Calca leaned back in her chair, the knowledge from the biography replaying in her mind. She had thought she understood this world well enough, but only now did she feel that the veil of this magical world had truly begun to lift for her.
Beneath the veil, things remained hazy: What was the root of mana? What was the fundamental difference between Tier Magic and Wild Magic? Though the fog ahead was thick, it was far better than having a solid wall blocking her path. At the very least, the road leading up to Level 35 was now clear. Plus, she still had Brilliant-Angel-Mao~Miao to fleece for knowledge. Changing the environment of the Katze Plains might not be an impossible dream after all.
As Calca prepared to read further, she suddenly realized Grandpa Rosta had appeared by her side.
"How do you feel about it, Princess Calca?"
"I've learned a lot. I'm starting to wonder why [Magic Affinity] is only ranked as a B-rank Talent," Calca joked playfully.
In reality, she hadn't been brainwashed by her ancestor. While [Magic Affinity] was powerful, it was outclassed by the truly top-tier talents. Compared to Ninya's "Magic Aptitude" (which halved the XP needed to level up) or Enri's "All-Item Aptitude" (which allowed the use of Guild Weapons regardless of restrictions), [Magic Affinity] was indeed somewhat ordinary.
"Hahaha, perhaps," the old man chuckled, then pivoted to another topic. "After the First Holy King finished this book, the Slane Theocracy went to great lengths to borrow it. Their assessment was that while [Magic Affinity] possesses the potential of an A-rank talent, reaching that ceiling requires extensive additional training. Humans already lack the time and energy to master magic itself; who has the spare time to develop a talent with such a visible limit and modest returns?"
Rosta's voice turned somber. "Your Highness, we humans do not possess the long lifespans of other races. To spend one's life developing a talent with a limited ceiling is a luxury we cannot afford. Our ancestor left training methods in the latter half of this book, and you may follow them—but I hope you will not attempt to realize some of the grander theories he left behind."
"Use your talent to enhance your magic. The talent is the process; your level of magic is the goal. We cannot be like the First Holy King, who eventually turned the means into the end. Promise me, even if you wish to complete the King's theories, you will wait until you are grown. Can you do that?"
"I can," Calca nodded slowly. "Don't worry, Grandpa Rosta. My focus will always remain on magic."
Satisfied, Rosta gestured for Calca to continue. "If you can't finish it now, you may take it with you. Just remember to return it."
Calca lowered her head to focus on the book, but in her heart, the young girl couldn't help but let out a soft sigh.
