Chapter 34 - Chapter 34: The Second Levi

Two figures sped toward the front lines.

As Chen Si felt the buildings on either side rapidly disappear behind him, he couldn't help but feel as though he were sightseeing.

Yes, after the snow mountain training, Chen Si had discovered something astonishing—he seemingly couldn't die. Even wounds healed instantly. He suspected that even if his limbs were severed, he could regenerate like a Titan.

Everything he relied on came from his lightning ability. Even if exhausting his electricity caused his death, his body would revive once the energy recovered about ten minutes later. Unless he were instantly reduced to ashes, he was practically invincible.

With his Ackerman bloodline fully awakened and his electrical power greatly enhanced, this terrifying world of man-eating Titans now felt almost like a game to him.

After flying for a while, Chen Si and Krista landed on the roof of a building. Five soldiers stood there.

"You must be Trainee Chen Si. I'm Shiel (OC), squad leader of the Garrison's elite unit. Our defensive line needs support. Please follow me," Shiel said.

"Chen Si, I see my squad leader. I need to return to my unit," Krista said.

"Stay safe. Protect yourself. I'll join you later," Chen Si instructed.

"Got it. You too." Krista stuck out her tongue playfully before flying off. But once airborne, her expression quickly grew serious. It was her first time facing Titans—she was nervous too.

"Let's go, Squad Leader Shiel," Chen Si said.

Shiel nodded and launched first. Four elite members followed, with Chen Si close behind.

Midair, Chen Si frowned. The direction they were heading wasn't toward the vanguard's frontline.

He didn't overthink it. Titans breaking into the middle or rear guard wasn't unusual. He could just finish things quickly and head to where the fighting was thickest.

He followed effortlessly behind Shiel, even leaving the other four elite members behind.

Shiel glanced back at Chen Si's relaxed expression and couldn't help but admire him. This guy's ODM gear skills are superb. Even my squad members can't match him. No wonder he's this year's top graduate.

Soon, Shiel landed on the roof of a tall building. Before reaching it, Chen Si retracted his cables early and dropped straight down, landing with a dull thud.

From here, the front lines were faintly visible. In the distance, Titans surged endlessly.

The others only released their cables after pulling themselves close to the rooftop—they didn't dare jump from that height.

"Hey, soldier. You retracted your hooks too early. Aren't you afraid of getting hurt?" Shiel asked.

Chen Si rotated his ankle and glanced at his heel.

"Don't worry. My shoes are good quality. They won't break."

Shiel's forehead twitched with exasperation. That's… not what I meant.

Suddenly, everything changed.

A 12-meter abnormal Titan charged at them on all fours at terrifying speed.

"Damn it, an abnormal! Formation!" Shiel shouted, drawing his blades.

"There's no time!" one squad member cried in despair.

The abnormal lunged, jaws wide, toward one soldier while its massive hand smashed toward another. It was unbelievably fast.

In that split second—

A figure flashed past.

Two streaks of blade-light.

The Titan's arm was severed, and in the same instant, its nape was sliced open.

The abnormal crashed into the street behind them due to inertia. The soldiers instinctively ducked. Chen Si landed lightly and sheathed his blades.

"So fast… that reaction speed, that cutting force…" Shiel stared in shock.

"Is this the second Levi?" the soldier who had nearly been bitten exclaimed.

Everyone was stunned.

"Thank you, Chen Si," one elite member said, still shaken.

"Let's hear the mission," Chen Si waved it off casually.

Shiel steadied himself and began issuing orders.

"Our objective is to rescue Duke Baron's only son. We must search for him in a Titan-occupied zone."

"What? You've got to be kidding! All of us—for one person?" a member who had just nearly died protested.

"Squad Leader, we should be at the front killing more Titans! They're desperate for support!" another added.

"You think I don't know that?!" Shiel snapped helplessly. "He's Duke Baron's only son. The duke pressured the military. The higher-ups can't ignore it."

"Squad Leader Shiel, with all due respect, this area is nothing but ruins. The odds of him being alive are extremely low," Chen Si said flatly.

Shiel gritted his teeth.

"We're unlucky this mission fell to us. Not just our squad—our entire class is searching. The duke demands to see his son dead or alive. If we fail… our families won't be allowed to evacuate to the inner city."

"What?!"

"They're using our families to threaten us?"

"Damn nobles!"

A cold glint flashed in Chen Si's eyes.

This Duke Baron clearly knew his son was likely dead. He just wanted scapegoats to vent his grief on—preferably ones to bury alongside him.

With Titans rampaging, there might not even be a body left.

Chen Si surveyed their location—rear of the middle guard. Many civilians here hadn't evacuated yet.

"This mission is impossible. No reinforcements will come here. It's a waste of time, and we could get surrounded. Squad Leader Shiel—tell me where Duke Baron is. I'll handle this."

Killing intent stirred in Chen Si's heart.

Ignoring masses of civilians while sending manpower to rescue one noble's son—absurd. He glanced at the distant crowd, wondering whether Carla had evacuated safely.

Shiel hesitated, not believing Chen Si could solve it—but unwilling to drag him down.

"The duke should be near the inner gate, with his butler."

"Go support the vanguard. Your families will be fine," Chen Si said, preparing to leave.

"But—" Shiel tried to stop him.

Chen Si took out a token from his waist and raised it without turning around. To avoid unnecessary trouble, he had specifically requested it from Pixis.

"That's… Commander Pixis's military token!" a soldier shouted.

"That's great! Our families are saved!"

Shiel finally relaxed.

"I'm counting on you."

Under everyone's watchful eyes, Chen Si sped toward the inner gate, cutting down three Titans along the way. Being near the rear, there weren't many here.

Soon, he saw a massive crowd of civilians jammed at the gate.
