Erwin shook his head.
"It's nothing. Humanity has no way left to retreat. The power you and Eren possess is exactly what we need. Because we have enemies beyond the walls to face, humanity must unite every force it can. We know far too little about the world outside," Erwin said, lowering his gaze.
"Commander Erwin, move forward boldly. I will help you realize your dream. You can trust me—I'm strong. Stronger than anyone," Chen Si said solemnly.
Erwin paused slightly, then a faint smile formed on his lips.
"Thank you, Chen Si."
Just as Chen Si was about to leave, he suddenly thought of Sawano Kawa.
"By the way, Commander—where is Sawano Kawa being held?"
"He's detained at the headquarters in the city. The Survey Corps is currently gathering evidence of his crimes and intelligence. Do you intend to interrogate him?" Erwin asked, glancing sideways as he poured tea.
"That's right. No one is more suitable than me. Also—didn't Hange Squad capture two Titans? It would be best to transfer them from the city to this castle immediately. Otherwise…" Chen Si said.
"You mean someone might target those Titan test subjects," Erwin finished.
"Exactly. Our enemies won't want us obtaining more information. We should move them right away. And even if the enemy tracks them here, there are no civilians nearby—so we can fight without restraint," Chen Si suggested.
After a brief moment of thought, Erwin nodded.
"However, moving those two massive Titans over such a long distance will require equipment from the Military Police. If the enemy acts tonight, we may not have time," Erwin said.
"Then we leave immediately. Eren can handle transporting them—this is easy for him," Chen Si said without hesitation, pushing the task onto Eren.
The reason Chen Si wanted to move the Titans was twofold. On one hand, he hoped Hange and the researchers inside the walls could learn more about Titans. On the other… it was because of Annie.
In the original timeline, Annie killed those two captured Titans. Chen Si wanted to avoid that outcome if possible. If Annie could later join Paradis, it would be easier for everyone to accept her.
More importantly… he needed to show himself—to let Annie know he was still alive. Otherwise, if her hope collapsed and Reiner forced her into more killings, things would only worsen. Chen Si fell into thought.
By the time Chen Si finished speaking with Erwin, night had already fallen.
Erwin went to notify Hange Squad, while Chen Si went to find Eren. Neither found their target, and the two ended up meeting outside the meeting room.
"Huh? It's already this late and they're still in a meeting?" Chen Si scratched his head, looking at the candlelight inside.
"Hange rarely talks with people this long. She's probably having a great time discussing things with Eren," Erwin said, familiar with her habits.
Erwin pushed the door open, and the two entered together.
"That's great, Eren! I'm glad you're interested! Let me explain it all again in detail!" Hange said excitedly, practically glowing.
"Okay!" Eren replied earnestly, eager to hear more.
We came too early… should've let Eren suffer a bit longer, Chen Si thought.
"Alright, alright, Hange, enough chatting. If you keep going, your two Titans are going to be gone," Chen Si quickly interrupted.
"Huh? Titans? What Titans—ah!! What?! My Titans!! What happened?!" Hange instantly appeared in front of Chen Si, grabbing his shoulders and shaking him wildly.
What is with these people… Chen Si complained internally.
Sasha goes berserk at the mention of food like she's awakened some hidden power. Levi treats cleaning like he's on fast-forward. And Hange? Mention Titans and she teleports. Terrifying.
"Hange, calm down. Your Titan test subjects are fine. But after discussing with Chen Si, we've decided to transfer them here to prevent causing panic among civilians," Erwin explained, leaving out the real reason.
"Oh… fine. It's true—those civilians simply don't understand the joy of sleeping alongside Titan babies…" Hange spun in place, waving her arms, looking heartbroken.
Is she a maniac…?
Both Chen Si and Eren had the exact same thought.
"Please don't mind her. Hange is extremely passionate about her work and has made great contributions to Titan research," Erwin quickly added.
Chen Si and Eren both nodded.
"Eren, time to get to work. Excited?" Chen Si slung an arm around Eren's shoulders with a grin.
"What? We're going outside the walls?!" Eren exclaimed, thrilled.
"Uh… no. You're working as a transporter," Chen Si said.
"…A transporter?" Eren said, now riding on horseback with a disappointed expression.
"What's wrong? This is your specialty, isn't it? You carried a boulder bigger than yourself before—lifting two small Titans should be easy," Chen Si said casually.
"Small Titans…" Moblit twitched at the corner of his mouth.
"Woohoo! Sonny! Bean! I'm coming to see you!" Hange shouted excitedly, galloping ahead.
"Section Commander! Slow down! It's dark—watch the road!" Moblit hurriedly called after her.
Being Hange's assistant was no easy job—Moblit had to worry constantly.
Originally, Erwin had asked Chen Si to ride in his carriage to discuss plans along the way. But Chen Si had gotten addicted to horseback riding. In his previous life, he had never ridden one, and now he loved it. Besides, his mount was especially comfortable—far better than the others.
"That's true… but…" Eren said, still looking a bit down.
"Eren, you want to go beyond the walls, don't you?" A voice came from behind as a rider quickly approached.
"Miss Chis… yeah. I want to see the world outside," Eren said, full of longing.
"You came too?" Chen Si asked in surprise.
"I heard you captured someone from Earth. Of course I had to come take a look!" she replied, her long hair flowing in the wind, brushing lightly against Chen Si's nose as she passed.
Chen Si froze for a moment, then came back to his senses.
Mikasa… Historia… what are you two doing right now…
Training Corps Camp — Late Night
The camp was quiet, illuminated only by moonlight and the glow of campfires.
Mikasa had just finished two hundred sets of sit-ups. Her abdominal muscles were fully tensed, defined, perfectly symmetrical.
Brother… I will become stronger. I will protect you. We will return to our home.
She continued throwing punches in the empty corridor, sweat flying.
Between her knuckles, a faint arc of electricity flickered—barely visible.
