The next day, members of the Military Police arrived to take charge of investigating the attack on the Survey Corps.
They began screening everyone in the Survey Corps, inspecting traces of 3D Maneuver Gear usage.
"What do you think? Who do you believe our enemy is?" Erwin leaned in and asked Eren quietly.
"Huh?" Eren froze for a moment, nervously trying to process the question.
"Sorry, that was a strange thing to ask," Erwin said.
"Let's go, Erwin. I'm worried that brat might act on impulse and kill our valuable prisoner," Levi said with his usual deadpan expression.
Erwin nodded and turned to head toward the prison together with Levi.
Before leaving, Levi glanced at Eren again. He hadn't joined Hange's squad the previous night and had only arrived that morning, already having learned of his mother's death.
"Kid, we don't have much time to grieve. Fulfilling our duties is the only way to honor the dead," Levi said without turning back.
Eren stood there blankly, staring at their departing figures.

Survey Corps – Underground Prison
Since Sawano Kawa's solitary cell had been destroyed, he was transferred underground. No one paid him any attention—after dealing with everything, everyone simply went to sleep. Ironically, his howling in the underground cells helped the Survey Corps sleep even better.
Chen Si slowly stopped in front of the prisoner, looking down at Sawano Kawa, who was kneeling on the ground, suspended by iron chains.
Sawano Kawa had a patch of scalp missing on the top of his head, resembling a balding "mushroom" haircut. He was about 158 cm tall, just slightly taller than Historia. His face was covered in bruises, and his clothes were torn to the point that whatever anime design they once had was no longer recognizable.
So ugly! That was Winyaad's first thought. Then she glanced at Chen Si and suddenly found him much more pleasant to look at.
"Hello, Earthling," Chen Si said with narrowed eyes, pouring a bucket of cold water over Sawano Kawa.
"Ah—! Pfft!" Sawano Kawa jolted awake from his sleep.
"When are you people going to interrogate me?! I'll tell you everything!" he shouted in collapse. He had been locked up for days with no one questioning him.
"Well, here we are," Chen Si smiled slightly. "Hello, my Japanese friend. Ohayou."
"Y-you're… that top-ranked guy!" Sawano Kawa's eyes widened.
"Seems I'm quite famous," Chen Si replied calmly.
"That's great! Ni hao! I love China! China–Japan friendship! Let me go—we're both transmigrators! If we work together, we'll be unbeatable!" Sawano Kawa shouted desperately, as if grabbing onto a lifeline.
"China comes first. Say it again properly," Chen Si said coldly, kicking him in the face. Blood burst from Sawano Kawa's nose.
"China–Japan friendship… Please spare me! If we team up, we can rule this world! What female characters wouldn't be ours? Why help these fictional characters? They're not even human—we are! Those women are just our playthings!" he screamed.
Winyaad, who had been idly watching, suddenly showed a flash of killing intent. She spun and kicked Sawano Kawa across the face, knocking out what few teeth he had left after being beaten earlier by Mike.
"Disgusting scum," she said, following up with two hard knee strikes to his stomach.
"Ugh—!" Sawano Kawa vomited stomach acid, his eyes bulging as if they might burst.
So she's this fierce… but well done, Chen Si thought, rubbing his stomach.
After giving him a moment to recover, Chen Si suddenly struck—lightning flashed and hit Sawano Kawa at the base of his thigh, instantly charring the flesh. The smell of cooked meat filled the air.
"AAAAH!! Why are you attacking me?! You haven't even asked anything yet!!" Sawano Kawa screamed, his face twisting in agony.
"I heard you took Carla hostage. Did you do anything to her?" Chen Si asked with a faint smile, grabbing him by the head.
"I—I didn't hurt her! I didn't touch her!" Sawano Kawa shouted repeatedly.
"Then why did she die outside your cell? Why was she even there?" Chen Si asked, lightning gathering in his hand.
"I—I don't know! Aaaah!" Sawano Kawa had barely spoken when—
Chen Si slammed his palm into his back, electricity scorching his flesh, nearly cooking it through.
"I'll talk! I'll talk! I kept shouting in the cell—maybe she heard me and came over! I pretended to be Eren. She thought Eren was imprisoned there and tried to come save me! As for why she was there, I really don't know!" he cried in panic.
"Do you know that if you hadn't been shouting, Aunt Carla wouldn't have been drawn to your cell? Do you know that if you hadn't appeared there, she wouldn't have died? You shouldn't have existed there—because of you, she died!" Chen Si roared, barely suppressing his fury.
Suddenly, he threw a punch that shattered Sawano Kawa's left arm, tearing it clean off.
"AAAAHHH!! You lunatic!!" Sawano Kawa howled.
"I've already shown you mercy. Your arm can grow back anyway," Chen Si said indifferently.
"I'm not a Titan, you idiot! What nonsense are you talking about?! How could an arm grow back?!" Sawano Kawa cried in despair.
"Huh? You don't have regeneration? Chris, do you? Can you heal?" Chen Si asked, turning to Winyaad.
"What are you talking about? I'm not a Titan—how would I heal? Can you?" she replied, puzzled.
"I see… so that's how it is," Chen Si muttered, coming to a realization—he was clearly very different from other transmigrators.
He then used lightning to cauterize Sawano Kawa's wound to prevent excessive bleeding. The man passed out from the pain.
"Huh? Did he die?" Chen Si asked, startled.
"No. He just fainted," Winyaad said after glancing at his chest.
Outside the Cell
"Commander, the investigation report on prisoner Sawano Kawa is complete. According to the Military Police, he killed over forty people within Wall Sina and assaulted over a hundred women. After arriving at Wall Rose, he caused over a dozen disappearances and assaulted more than ten women," a staff officer reported.
"Erwin, even in the Underground, people this vile are rare. Are you sure you intend to recruit him? I doubt those two brats—Chen Si and Eren—would agree," Levi said flatly.
Erwin took the report, fell briefly silent, then said:
"Let's go inside and take a look first."
