Mei Mei looked at Gojo and Naoya chit-chatting. A small smile bloomed on her face unconsciously. Since Naoya has rebelled against the Zenin Clan higher-ups, they will make sure Naoya's life is messed up. They will now begin to scrutinize every mistake he makes, every decision.
She has no doubt after the stunt he pulled in front of higher-ups; they wanted to kick Naoya out of the clan, but his achievement is their resistance. But even without minding, they can make his life a despair. Old men such as they often didn't do dirty work; people would do the work for them.
One "accidental" mission after another, one wrong decision, one failure, one public mistake. That was all it would take. And once his image cracked… The same people who praised him today would tear him apart tomorrow.
Mei Mei, of course, didn't want that; because of that reason, she introduced Gojo to Naoya. While Gojo can't actively participate in Zenin clan affairs, Naoya can use Gojo's name as leverage. Gojo is, after all, a person with significant political and physical power in Jujutsu society.
It was Mei Mei's first time doing something for others, but she can say with certainty this isn't a bad feeling at all.
Mei Mei glanced toward Naoya again. He was currently leaning back in his chair, casually drinking coffee while openly telling Gojo his face was overrated.
Idiot. Absolute idiot. And yet…
Her smile deepened.
Because somehow, she feels like she can trust this little monster in front of her with her whole being. Which was most puzzling for her. She lives her life and even builds her life around an undeniable truth: money.
Money is everything for her. For money she is ready to do anything. And that mentality till now hasn't forsaken her. Because of that mentality, she has become one of the successful independent sorcerers. She believes her name is known throughout most households. She built that reputation of hers due to her mentality.
But currently she didn't know why she was feeling that way towards Naoya. Was it because she saved her from a special grade curse? No, that can't be. As a Grade-1 sorcerer, her life was risked multiple times, and she was also saved by others multiple times; never did she feel anything for them as she is feeling towards Naoya. To be truthful, she wants to gobble Naoya up whenever she is sitting next to him. She felt thirst, but she didn't want water. Her heart beat out of her chest, but her heart is healthy.
She perfectly understands what she is feeling right now. She wasn't a type to hide her feelings or even deny them; she was the type who would act on her desires, mortality be damned. But her question is why she is feeling this way.
She always believed she was a pragmatic person who valued the worth of others like a chart in investment. Not that it's a good habit, mind you, but this made determining other people easy. She can discard others if they are of no use, promote one if their value increases, and demote one if their value drops. Currently she didn't know where to put Naoya on her chart... No, that's incorrect; it's more like she doesn't want to put Naoya in the chart, she doesn't want to turn Naoya into a number, and she doesn't want to simplify him.
Mei Mei always thought if she got together with someone, it would be for profit or along the line of some business. Love doesn't have any value in the cold sheets of currency. But here she is, lamenting exactly that. And she couldn't even find the reason. An unsolvable question.
"Hmm…"
Gojo suddenly leaned back in his chair, one arm draped lazily over the backrest while his blindfolded face turned toward Mei Mei.
"You're awfully quiet today."
Mei Mei blinked once before smoothly regaining her usual business smile.
"That's because my investment seems to be doing very well."
Naoya looked at her with narrowed eyes.
"…Investment?"
Mei Mei shrugged gracefully.
"What? Did you think I work for free?"
Naoya snorted. "You're getting soft."
"Only for people I value." Then she turned to Naoya with a teasing grin. "What? You want to become something I value? If you do this, big sis will really take good care of you."
"As if, you Plutophile."
