Half a month later, Raizen and Mei Terumī held their wedding in Kirigakure.
One night, Raizen was alone in his study, writing the latest chapter of the novel Kakashi loved so much. Suddenly, a dark shadow materialized before him.
A single, malevolent three-tomoe Sharingan stared directly into Raizen's eyes. The tomoe spun, launching a powerful Genjutsu. At that exact moment, Raizen's pupils contracted, and his black eyes instantly transformed into three-tomoe Sharingans. A terrifying wave of pupil power surged in a counter-release.
Behind the mask, the shadow's expression froze in horror. In the next heartbeat, the intruder fell into his own illusion.
"Kneel!" a majestic voice commanded.
The shadow's body jolted instinctively. His legs began to buckle as he was forced toward the floor. Gritting his teeth, his eye flickered and transformed into the Mangekyō Sharingan. The sudden boost in pupil power allowed him to tear himself away from the control.
"That was close!"
"Who exactly are you?"
"Why do you have the Sharingan?"
"And this terrifying pupil power... who are you!?"
Having barely escaped the counter-control, the shadow stared at Raizen in sheer terror. This man possessed the Sharingan and a pupil power strong enough to reflect his Genjutsu in an instant. Had he not possessed the Mangekyō himself, he would have been utterly disgraced tonight.
"Obito Uchiha... I knew you were hiding here!!"
"Since you've come, don't think about leaving!"
"Traitor of the Uchiha, murderer of our kin—tonight is the night you die."
Raizen rose slowly, releasing a crushing aura of chakra that locked onto Obito with predatory precision.
"You... how do you know my name!?"
Being exposed so blatantly left Obito visibly shaken. Even Itachi, his partner in the Uchiha massacre, didn't know his true identity. This man, appearing out of nowhere in the Mist, not only possessed the Sharingan but saw right through him. A cold dread, unlike anything he had felt before, washed over Obito.
Aside from Madara and the Zetsus, no one should know he was alive. To have his name called out so accurately made his skin crawl.
"I am the man who will take your life!"
"Obito Uchiha, your sins are beyond redemption. Accept your death!"
Raizen stepped toward him, his Sharingan tracking Obito's every micro-movement.
"Are you... another pawn planted by Madara?" Obito blurted out, finding the only logical explanation. He was certain that he and Itachi had wiped out the entire clan, leaving only Sasuke. If another Uchiha existed with such power, he must have been a secret backup plan of Madara's. That would explain how he knew Obito's secrets.
"Heh... a pawn?"
"I am not like you—trash that willingly becomes a tool for others. I am not like the monster who slaughtered his own clan, his mentor, and his mentor's wife, leaving their newborn child to live as a lonely, hated orphan. A wretched soul like yours has no right to exist in this world."
"Die, Obito!"
Raizen lunged forward.
"I don't know who you are, but you lack the qualifications to kill me," Obito snapped, regaining his composure. "If you know my secret, I definitely can't let you live. I came to control you to manage the unstable factor that is Mei Terumī, but the plan has changed. No one who knows the truth leaves this room alive."
Seeing that Raizen was only using a three-tomoe Sharingan, a flash of contempt crossed Obito's face. Against his Mangekyō, three tomoe were nothing. He swung his chains and charged.
Raizen's hand flared with chakra, forming a Big Ball Rasengan.
"That's Lord Minato's jutsu!" Obito gasped in shock. "How can he—!?"
Raizen slammed the Rasengan toward Obito's chest. As expected, Obito activated his intangibility. Raizen and the glowing sphere of chakra passed straight through Obito's body. Simultaneously, Obito's chains swept around to bind Raizen.
"Got you!" Obito sneered.
But as the chains closed in, a smirk played on Raizen's lips. This scene was a perfect echo of Minato's legendary battle with Obito.
Flash!
Raizen vanished. He reappeared instantly right in front of Obito's chest. A kunai marked with the Flying Thunder God formula, which had been tossed earlier, fell into his hand. In the same breath, Raizen's other hand—already glowing with a freshly formed Big Ball Rasengan—smashed into Obito's solar plexus.
"Again! Lord Minato's—!" Obito watched in horror. Having just used his intangibility to let the first attack pass, he couldn't phase out again in time. The Rasengan hit with full, devastating force.
Obito was sent flying, crashing through the study wall and tumbling into the courtyard, only stopping when he smashed into a decorative tree. The commotion brought Mei Terumī running from the adjacent wing.
"Raizen-kun! What happened? Are you hurt!?" she cried, rushing to his side.
"I'm fine. He's the one who's hurt." Raizen leaped down, landing in front of the coughing Obito.
"What is your relationship with Minato-sensei!?" Obito spat out blood, staring at Raizen with bewilderment and terror. "Why do you have his jutsu? And the Sharingan... where the hell did you come from!?"
"You wretched thief! How dare you attack my husband!" Mei roared. "Boil Release: Skilled Mist Technique!"
She exhaled a cloud of highly acidic mist toward Obito.
"Damn it..." Obito forced himself to phase through the acid. As he solidified, Raizen capitalized on the opening. Lightning crackled in his palm—the Raikiri—as he lunged for the kill.
Pshhh!
The lightning blade pierced clean through Obito's chest.
"That's... Kakashi's move..." Obito coughed up a thick spray of blood. "Who... are... you..."
Obito's eyes rolled back as he slumped, seemingly dead. However, Raizen knew he wouldn't die that easily. Sure enough, moments later, the "corpse" blurred and vanished.
Obito reappeared on the roof, clutching his chest. "I will come back for you!" A vortex spiraled around his eye, sucking him into the Kamui dimension until he vanished completely.
"Raizen-kun... who was that?" Mei asked, her voice trembling with worry. "Why did he attack you? And... why do you have the Sharingan?"
She looked at him with a mix of fear and doubt. She feared losing him, but she also feared he might be a Konoha spy who had infiltrated the Mist by using her.
Raizen sighed. "I won't hide it from you anymore, darling. That man was Obito Uchiha. He is the one controlling your Fourth Mizukage, and he is the one who massacred my entire clan."
"What? He's controlling Yagura!?" Mei was stunned.
"Yes. Obito is the mastermind behind the 'Bloody Mist.' Your village caused the death of his teammate, Rin Nohara, during the Third War. Out of revenge, he controlled Yagura to make the Mist suffer through endless slaughter. I am a survivor of the Uchiha massacre who came here specifically to hunt him down. But in the process, I was lucky enough to meet you. You are the light that saved me from my darkness. Thank you, darling."
Raizen embraced her, weaving a web of half-truths to settle her heart.
Mei was shaken. Her suspicion that Yagura was being controlled was finally confirmed. "Raizen-kun... are you really not a Konoha spy? Do you truly love me, or are you just using me?"
"The Konoha leadership is responsible for my clan's extinction," Raizen said, his eyes flashing with genuine murderous intent. "How could I be their spy? I have a blood feud with them; I want them all dead."
"Is it true?" Mei whispered. She desperately wanted to believe that his love wasn't a lie.
Raizen nodded firmly. "It's the truth. I love you, and I love our unborn child. I am not a spy."
"I believe you, Raizen-kun." Mei hugged him tightly, terrified of the world where he wasn't by her side.
Raizen kissed her forehead. "I hit Obito hard. The Genjutsu he used to control the Fourth Mizukage should be broken now. You can go to the Mizukage building and see for yourself. It will prove I'm telling the truth."
Mei shook her head. "I don't need to check. I trust you."
"No," Raizen insisted. "We should check. I don't want a shadow of doubt to remain in our hearts. Let's go to the Mizukage building together."
