Chapter 44 - 44 Shots

I don't know. But I also don't even care why that is.

"Hey, don't just leave. I'll go with you," I told him, following him up the stairs toward the street. "Aren't we talking just fine right here?"

"You're really not going in?"

"I told you, I was leaving too."

"Thought it was a lie."

"It's not," I said, and for once, that part was true. "You're going to take the bus, right? I'll go with you."

"I was thinking of taking a little walk for a bit. You can go ahead if you're in a rush." He said, moving away although I shifted my weight as I heard that, trying to act casual while my heart did a nervous little dance in my chest.

"Walking sounds good. I'm not pressed for time." I told him. 

"Good for you." He offered a small, easy smile that made the streetlights glint in his eyes.

I cleared my throat, searching for something—anything—to keep the conversation alive. "So? How have you been?" After a brief pause, he glanced sideways at me.
