"Yes, but as I said, I don't feel right about it. I'm viewing this as helping out a friend, but if you dislike me calling you that, I'll just call it charity." I knew I couldn't charge him—my guilt would eat me alive—but I also knew that pushing him this far would make him stop. Calling him charity... he'll certainly lose his mind. Heh. Anticipating his shocked expression, I felt a momentary surge of triumph.
"Charity? Me?" he asked, looking as though he couldn't believe his ears.
"Of course. Since I'm helping someone in great need, it may as well be charity." Playing dumb, I took another stab at his pride.
