It irritated me that even while being fully aware of the massive red flags, I still ended up liking him. Life is truly unfair. It could always suck more than one can imagine. I really used to overestimate my own resilience.
Once my disguise was complete, I dragged John out of his room, shouting a quick goodbye to Mum and Dad on our way out. We needed to take the bus downtown, so we left early to avoid any Saturday night transport drama. The city would be crawling with people looking to party.
"Did you tell Mason we're on our way?" John asked, his eyes bright with anticipation.
"Yup. He said he's heading out now. We probably won't have to wait long."
"Nice." He smirked, rubbing his hands together in glee. "You'll like the place. It's popular, but not so crowded that it's uncomfortable like most pubs and clubs."
"Sounds decent. I hope they have good cocktails. I can't stand it when they're sickly sweet."
