Chapter 6 - No More Running

The shadow stepped forward.

Three men blocked the alley exit.

The man in black walked in behind them, slow… confident.

"End of the road," he said calmly.

Daniel stepped slightly in front of Elena again. "Stay behind me."

"No," Elena whispered. "No more hiding."

Her voice was shaking — but not from fear.

From anger.

"You ruined everything," she said to the man in black. "You chased him. You lied. You made me believe he abandoned me."

The man tilted his head. "Collateral damage."

Daniel's fists tightened.

Marcus suddenly appeared at the alley entrance behind them.

"They're surrounded," he warned quietly.

For a second, it felt hopeless.

Four against two.

Then Elena looked down at the necklace.

The key.

The evidence.

The truth.

"You want this?" she said loudly, holding it up.

All eyes locked onto it.

The man in black smiled. "Very much."

Elena met Daniel's eyes.

Trust.

Without another word, she pulled the pendant open.

A tiny memory chip slid into her palm.

Gasps.

"You think I wouldn't make copies?" Daniel said coldly.

The man's smile disappeared.

"By now," Daniel continued, "everything on that chip has been sent to the police… and to the press."

Silence fell like a bomb.

The men hesitated.

For the first time—

They looked unsure.

Sirens wailed in the distance.

Getting closer.

The man in black's calm mask finally cracked. "You made a mistake."

"No," Elena said firmly. "You did."

Red and blue lights flashed at the end of the alley.

The men scattered, but it was too late.

Police cars surrounded the street within seconds.

As officers rushed in, the man in black was forced to the ground.

The nightmare was ending.

Daniel turned to Elena slowly.

"It's over."

Tears filled her eyes — not from fear this time.

From relief.

"You should have trusted me," she said softly.

"I was trying to protect you."

She stepped closer.

"And now?"

Daniel looked at her, vulnerable for the first time.

"Now… I'm done running."

The sirens faded into the night.

But for the first time in a year—

The darkness didn't feel so heavy.

Because sometimes…

The only way out of the shadows—

Is to face them.
