Chapter 47 - Chapter 47: The Broken Disguise: A Fairy in the Dark

[Viewer "Fawn in the Woods": Phew... now that it's censored, I finally dare to open my eyes. Streamer, stop keeping us in suspense! What exactly is it?]

Watching the chat feed successfully transition from sheer panic to intense curiosity, Miles knew the time was right for a proper explanation.

"M-Master Streamer, is... is it really a Pokémon?" Susie stammered.

On the other end of the camera, the oversized, pitch-black sunglasses completely blocked her view of the chat. However, seeing the blurred mosaic on her screen and the unwavering confidence on Miles's face a good portion of her terror dissipated.

"I am absolutely certain. It is, without a doubt, a Pokémon," Miles stated plainly.

He leaned back in his gaming chair, intertwining his fingers to exude an aura of unhurried mastery. "However, it's true that this particular Pokémon hasn't been officially recorded or published in the Federation's public Pokédex yet."

"You could say that the vast majority of people, including those so-called experts who only know how to read from a script, know pitifully little about it."

"Fortunately, a good friend of mine—a heavyweight in deep Pokémon genetic research—just shared some top-secret data with me during a private call yesterday."

[Viewer "Wild Electabuzz": Classic! The 'imaginary researcher friend' excuse drops again! LMAO]

[Viewer "Sober at Midnight": Chat, even if bro is talking out of his ass, let's play along. He's trying so hard! Just follow the script!]

[Viewer "Gossip Frontline": W Streamer! Top-secret data! (Payment received, delete this part of the message).]

Miles ignored the teasing in the chat and continued his serious lecture. "The academic world hasn't given this Pokémon a unified, official name yet. But from what I can see, its body is riddled with unsolved mysteries."

"It is exceptionally skilled at—and obsessed with—mimicry and disguise. And its absolute favorite subject to imitate... is Pikachu."

He stared directly into the camera lens and announced, emphasizing every single syllable, "Mimikyu! 'Mimi' for its mimicry and the mysteries it holds, and 'kyu' for the Pikachu it so desperately longs to be!"

[Viewer "Keyboard Holmes": Mimikyu? That name is brilliant! It hits all the marks of a perfect translation—it's like it was tailor-made!]

[Viewer "Outlaw John Doe Himself": Pass it on! Master Miles officially discovered and named a brand-new species live on stream! Carve his name onto the Federation's Biological Pokédex tomorrow!]

[Viewer "Ruby": Mimikyu... It sounds mysterious, yet carries a trace of sorrowful cuteness. You have quite the talent for naming.]

"As for its typing, it isn't just a pure Ghost-type like everyone is imagining," Miles said, dropping an even heavier piece of insider knowledge.

"It differs from your standard Gastly or Misdreavus. Within Mimikyu's body, alongside the chilling energy of a Ghost-type, intertwines a deeply mysterious and highly deceptive power."

"Based on my friend's research hypotheses, it is highly likely an incredibly rare dual-type Pokémon: Ghost and Fairy!"

"Fairy-type?!"

Hearing the term, not only Susie but even the veteran Pokémon fans in the livestream froze in surprise.

[Viewer "Wild Electabuzz": What the hell is a Fairy-type? Why does that sound so familiar yet so foreign?]

[Viewer "Sober at Midnight": Fairy-type... I remember in the past, weren't Clefairy and Jigglypuff classified as Normal-types? I think some scholars did propose a Fairy-type hypothesis later on.]

[Viewer "Keyboard Holmes": The Fairy-type is a new classification the academic community has been fiercely debating recently! Rumor has it they possess a mystical, ethereal power capable of countering mighty Dragon-types! I can't believe this monster is actually a Fairy-type?!]

"That's right, Fairy-type," Miles nodded in confirmation. "You can just think of them as the fairies or sprites of the Pokémon world."

"They generally have petite statures, highly sensitive personalities, and wield mysterious abilities related to moonlight, magic, and mental charm."

"Mimikyu is a unique existence that perfectly blends the eeriness of a Ghost with the mystique of a Fairy."

Listening to Miles's perfectly reasoned scientific analysis, Susie let out a long breath, her entire body slumping against the doorframe as if completely drained.

"So it's a Fairy Pokémon... You scared me to death. But Streamer, since it's not a real ghost, is it dangerous?"

She swallowed hard, staring through her dark lenses at the squirming pixelated mass in the mirror. She finally asked the question that she—and every single viewer in the chat—cared about the most.

"Also... why did you insist I put on these incredibly dark sunglasses before letting me look at it?"

At that question, Miles's hand paused just as he was picking up his water glass.

He set it back down, a flash of extreme solemnity and deep awe passing through his eyes. His voice dropped several registers.

"Good question. Whether it is dangerous or not depends entirely on your attitude."

"As for why I made you wear the sunglasses..."

He took a deep breath, his voice echoing through the spacious studio, deep and piercing, as if recounting an ancient secret buried by the rivers of time.

"That brings us to the highly unique behavioral habits of the Mimikyu species."

"As I mentioned earlier, beneath its drawn-on skin hides a truly terrifying true form."

"This terror isn't just a visual shock; it's a bizarre magnetic field capable of piercing straight through the soul and triggering extreme physiological stress responses."

Miles interlaced his fingers again, his gaze locking onto the pixelated figure on the screen that was still futilely trying to adjust its "head" with a shadowy, spectral claw.

"Mimikyu is an entity of extreme contradictions. It desperately craves friends and yearns to be loved, but at the same time, it feels intense inferiority and self-loathing regarding its true appearance."

"That is why it went to such great lengths to sew itself a Pikachu costume out of old rags. This disguise is its sole source of security in the entire world."

He leaned closer to the mic. "Once this disguise is damaged, or if it believes its true appearance is about to be exposed to others, its psychological defenses will instantly collapse!"

"What follows is an incredibly frantic self-defense mechanism—it will unhesitatingly unleash all of its power to obliterate anyone who witnesses its true face."

Miles's words acted like an ice-cold chisel, slowly chipping away the fog in everyone's minds while simultaneously bringing a bone-deep chill.

"Susie, when you saw its 'neck' snap last night, it was actually just the wooden stick supporting the costume's head breaking."

"It knew its disguise had suffered a fatal flaw."

"If you had pushed that door open completely unprepared just now and stared directly at its broken disguise..."

Miles let out a cold laugh, his tone turning grim. "It would have assumed you were peeking at its true body and he might have gone instantly berserk!"

"I had you wear the darkest sunglasses possible to send it a very strong psychological cue: 'I'm half-blind, my vision is terrible, and I can't clearly see the messy state you're in right now.'"

"As long as it believes you haven't seen through its disguise, its tightly wound nerves won't snap, and you get to keep your life."

Hearing Miles's penetrating, deeply psychological analysis, Susie felt completely weak in the knees. Her silk pajamas were thoroughly soaked in a cold sweat.

Looking through her sunglasses at the eerie reflection in the mirror, an indescribable wave of belated terror and awe washed over her.

If she hadn't connected with this Streamer and had recklessly rushed out, the consequences would have been unimaginable!

After a brief, dead silence, the livestream chat completely exploded.

[Viewer "Sober at Midnight": HOLY SHIT! So THAT'S what the sunglasses were for! Bro's psychological warfare is 5D chess! He read that Pokémon like a book!]

[Viewer "Wild Electabuzz": Hinting she's half-blind is wild! What a play! If Streamer wasn't here, she'd actually be RIP tonight!]

[Viewer "Keyboard Holmes": Thinking about it deeply is terrifying! This means Mimikyu not only has high intelligence but also immense pride and vulnerability! Are these really emotions wild Pokémon can possess?!]

[Viewer "Gossip Frontline": Bro is cooking! How is this an appraisal stream?! This is a life-or-death mental tug-of-war with a high-IQ anomaly!]

[Viewer "Outlaw John Doe Himself": Knowledge increased! I'm definitely bringing sunglasses whenever I go out at night from now on! Who knows if there's a Mimikyu hiding in the dark, terrified of being seen!]

[Viewer "Begone Red-Dressed Ghost": But it's so pitiful... Just because it's ugly, it has to spend its whole life hiding under a dirty rag, not even daring to make friends...]

[Viewer "Fawn in the Woods": T_T After hearing that explanation, I don't think it's scary anymore. It's just tragic. Was it wandering outside her door just looking for Pichu to play with?]

[Viewer "Even Iron Straight Men Weep": It might be pitiful, but Mods, can you please remove the censor first? Streamer already explained it's not a ghost, it's a normal Pokémon! I want to see a high-definition, uncensored Mimikyu!]

While thousands of viewers frantically begged the admins to "remove the mosaic," hundreds of kilometers away, inside the headquarters of the livestreaming platform, chaos reigned.

The late-night moderation office for special frequency channels was brightly lit. A content reviewer, drenched in sweat, stared intently at Miles's stream, his fingers flying across his keyboard as he panicked like an ant on a hot pan.

"Fuck! What kind of god-tier livestream is this?! The traffic data is spiking way too ridiculously!" The reviewer shouted across the room. "Supervisor! Supervisor, come look at this! How should we handle this 'Almighty Pokémon Appraisal' stream?!"

A slightly paunchy supervisor wearing gold-rimmed glasses hurried over, coffee cup in hand.

"The AI system was just going crazy flagging it for high-intensity gore and horror, so I manually slapped a Gaussian blur on it..." the reviewer explained frantically. "But now the entire chat is protesting, and the streamer is swearing up and down that it's an undiscovered new species of Pokémon!"

The supervisor narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing Miles's broadcast and the flood of viewer demands rolling across the screen.

"Are you sure this isn't some scripted show put on by a production company? Or maybe they're using AR synthesis tech?" His brow furrowed deeply.

"Absolutely not!" The reviewer lowered his voice, a hint of reverence slipping out. "Supervisor, I checked this guy's backend data and interaction logs."

"Just an hour ago, the official account of the local Pokémon Alliance—the famously impartial Officer Barrett—connected with him on stream. He even used the official account to tip him three 'Master Balls'!"

"That proves this kid has official backing! His background is rock solid. Whatever he's appraising is more than likely real!"

Hearing the words "Pokémon Alliance" and "Officer Barrett," the supervisor's hand trembled slightly, spilling a drop of coffee as a sharp glint flashed in his eyes.

"If he has official certification from the Pokémon Alliance, and this is an educational Pokémon stream, then it absolutely falls under compliant, normal content," the supervisor decided instantly, demonstrating his sharp professional instincts.

"However, the appearance of this Pokémon is indeed quite grotesque. To prevent malicious reporting, we need to run a liability waiver protocol."

He pointed at the screen. "Listen closely. Operate the backend and keep his stream running smoothly."

"But force a red liability warning agreement to pop up on all viewers' screens. State that the imagery might cause physiological discomfort. They have to confirm they have no history of heart conditions and click 'Agree' before the mosaic is lifted and they can view the original quality!"

"Got it! Supervisor, this guy's heat is already threatening to break into the top spot of the division rankings. Should we secretly push some traffic his way in the backend?" the reviewer asked excitedly.

"A streamer with an official background who can consistently pump out explosive, bizarre content? He absolutely has the potential to become a top-tier star."

"Give him the highest-level green light. Open the traffic pool all the way!" the supervisor commanded, waving his hand decisively.

Meanwhile, back in Miles's livestream, just as the audience was complaining bitterly, an official red liability waiver violently popped up in the center of their screens.

[Warning: The following footage may contain the true, grotesque form of an unknown Pokémon. Please confirm that you do not suffer from heart disease or related cardiovascular conditions. If you insist on viewing, please click the "Agree" button below. The platform has fulfilled its obligation to warn you.]

[Viewer "Sober at Midnight": Holy crap! An official liability waiver?! This level of clout is invincible!]

[Viewer "Wild Electabuzz": Sign it! I'll watch it even if I die of a heart attack in front of my screen! Agree!]

[Viewer "Gossip Frontline": The platform really knows how to build up the hype! Chat, I've clicked agree. I am ready for the nuclear strike!]

As thousands of viewers rapidly clicked agree, the thick mosaic on Susie's phone camera melted away like snow in spring.

The Mimikyu, looking indescribably eerie due to its snapped disguise, was revealed clearly and unreservedly to everyone's eyes!

And deep within Miles's retinas, as the image cleared, the [God-Level Pokémon Insight Eye] roared to life like a supercomputer, instantly loading the complete data panel of the mysterious creature!

[Fate Entry (Purple): Shadow-Stitching Craftsmanship.]
