Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Indra Awakens His Eyes

Not long after, a clear and urgent shout from a boy came from outside the bamboo forest, carrying his usual excitement. "Grandmaster! Grandmaster! I'm here!"

Indra lifted the hem of his clothes and quickly stepped into the bamboo forest. In the past, Arisu would always be waiting early by the huge rock, but today when he looked around, he did not see that familiar figure.

Even the sound of the bamboo leaves seemed to fade. It was frighteningly quiet, and even the insects had disappeared without a trace. A strange chill crawled up his spine.

"Huh? Where is Grandmaster?", Indra frowned slightly. His steps unconsciously became lighter as he moved forward a couple of steps.

The next second, Indra's pupils suddenly shrank, and his heart felt like it was fiercely grabbed by an invisible hand, stopping for half a beat.

On the open ground beside the huge rock, Arisu was covered in blood, lying there limply. His clothes were soaked in blood, red and glaring, with no breath left.

"Grand… Grandmaster?!", Indra's voice trembled badly.

His legs felt as heavy as if filled with lead. Shaking, he crouched down and reached out to check Arisu's breathing. What his fingers touched was only cold skin, without a trace of warmth.

"Ah!? Grandmaster actually died!"

"Grandmaster is dead…"

Indra staggered back two steps, his eyes full of disbelief. His mind went blank, as if the whole world had collapsed.

The Grandmaster who was always gentle, who guided his training and treated him so well, was just gone like this?

Overwhelming grief instantly drowned Indra. He suddenly rushed forward and tightly hugged Arisu's cold body. Tears fell like broken beads, hitting Arisu's clothes and soaking a small patch.

"Grandmaster! Grandmaster! How could you die? Please don't leave me…", He cried his heart out, his voice choked.

Indra held Arisu tighter and tighter. The boy who was usually calm and steady was now crying uncontrollably.

At the peak of this extreme grief, a violent force suddenly surged from deep within Indra's eyes. It churned and broke through its restraints.

With a soft sound, scarlet eyes suddenly opened. Three black tomoe slowly rotated in his pupils, strange and cold.

The three tomoe Sharingan had awakened.

Indra suddenly raised his head. In his scarlet eyes surged overwhelming anger and hatred. Even the chakra around him became violent.

"Grandmaster! I will avenge you! No matter who harmed you, I will make them pay in blood!"

Indra clenched his fists and roared through gritted teeth.

At that moment, a clear voice suddenly sounded out of nowhere, especially abrupt in the silent bamboo forest, "Press one to revive Grandmaster."

Indra's pupils shook violently. He almost thought he was hallucinating from too much grief.

He looked around wildly and shouted like he had lost his mind, "One! One! One! I press one! Hurry and bring Grandmaster back to life!"

As soon as his words fell, a gentle laugh sounded behind him.

Indra suddenly turned around and saw Arisu standing there with a smile, his clothes neat and clean. There was not a single trace of blood, nor any sign of being near death.

"Grand… Grandmaster!", Indra was both shocked and overjoyed. Tears were still hanging on his face, but he instantly broke into a smile.

He almost threw himself forward, tightly hugging Arisu's waist and burying his face in his clothes. His voice still carried the nasal tone of crying.

"That's great! You're fine! That voice was actually real. You really came back to life!"

Feeling the trembling body of the boy in his arms and his burning tears, Arisu smiled helplessly and gently patted his back. "Stronger than I expected. You actually awakened the three tomoe directly."

He extended his finger and lightly tapped Indra's forehead.

Indra froze slightly and raised his head. There were still tear marks in his eyes, full of confusion. "Grandmaster, what do you mean?"

Arisu smiled faintly and formed hand seals. Sage chakra surged, and a clear water mirror instantly formed in midair.

In the mirror, Indra's reflection was clearly shown, especially his eyes. The scarlet base color with three tomoe slowly rotating, strange and powerful.

"This is…"

Indra widened his eyes and blinked subconsciously. Only then did he realize his vision had completely changed.

Everything around him became several times clearer. Even the patterns on the bamboo leaves and the flow of the wind could be seen clearly. His insight had increased sharply.

Looking at his shocked expression, Arisu slowly explained.

He explained the origin and power of the Sharingan and also pointed out that what had just happened was merely an illusion he had set up.

After hearing this, Indra's face instantly turned red. Both embarrassed and ashamed, he hurriedly wiped the tears from his face and lowered his head somewhat angrily.

"Grandmaster, don't do this next time. I would rather not have this power than see something happen to you."

Arisu looked at the redness at the tip of his ears and once again extended his finger to lightly tap his forehead.

There was a gentle smile in his eyes. "But wasn't it for power that you met Grandmaster in the first place?"

Hearing this, Indra was stunned.

That was true. He had pursued power, so he found Grandmaster.

But if Grandmaster had really died, even if he had gained power, his heart would have been filled with such pain.

"So, on the road of growing and gaining power, you will always lose something…", Arisu said softly with a smile.

Indra seemed to understand yet not fully. He looked at his hands, then at Arisu, confused.

"How has your father's health been recently?", Arisu asked slowly.

Indra answered, "Father is getting older and older."

Arisu sighed slightly in his heart. The child from back then had now become a very old man.

Soon, Arisu would once again witness the passing of an old acquaintance.

"Indra, don't come here anymore in the future. Your master will not come again.", Arisu said slowly.

"Why, Master? Did I do something wrong?", Indra asked in confusion.

Arisu chuckled lightly, "You are very outstanding. There is nothing more I can teach you."

He had already taught Indra the hand seals.

There was no need to teach the rest.

The reason Arisu had taught Indra was only to cultivate another Hagoromo, someone to connect with the human world.

Hearing this, Indra immediately bowed.

"Thank you for your teaching, Grandmaster. Indra will never forget it. If one day I take control of the Ninja Sect, I will honor you even more!" Indra promised.

Arisu raised his brow. 'How did this kid dare to be so certain that he would become the leader of the Ninja Sect?'

"Oh, Indra, you are very confident in becoming the leader of the Ninja Sect.", Arisu said slowly.

Indra showed a confident smile. "Of course. Thanks to Grandmaster's method of hand seals, I was the one who let everyone learn it. My standing among everyone is very high!"

"Also, Father will only pass the position of successor through bloodline."

"Asura is too naive. Only I can allow the Ninja Sect to continue and develop!"

"So, the old man will definitely give the successor position to me!" Indra said confidently.

He knew clearly that his status in the Ninja Sect was now very high. His father had only taught them spirit, but he was the one who truly gave them power.

In his own eyes, Asura was too naive and could never take control of the Ninja Sect.
