Mateo quietly finished his own call and made a deliberate effort not to listen.
Santiago's expression remained unchanged. "If you called to interrogate me, end the conversation now."
A soft chuckle traveled down the line. "No one is interrogating you. I'm simply trying to decide whether we should prepare for war or for a wedding celebration."
"Neither."
"That answer usually means both."
Santiago's gaze drifted once again toward the closed bedroom doors.
Alejandro noticed the silence on the other end immediately, and his tone shifted. "So she's there."
It was not a question.
Santiago did not bother denying it. "She's resting."
Another brief pause followed.
Then Alejandro continued, his voice carrying far more meaning than the words themselves. "You brought a woman into your room."
