It was still too early to know what the rest of the day would bring, but at least for that moment, both families had something they desperately needed: food, rest, and the knowledge that the people they loved were still alive.
Santiago's POV
Not long after the guards had finished distributing breakfast in the private waiting suite, another guard approached Daniella's wardroom carrying several carefully packed containers. Santiago looked up when he heard the quiet knock on the door, and the guard entered with the packages in both hands.
"Chief, breakfast," he said respectfully as he placed the containers on the small table inside the wardroom. "There's enough for both of you. I also brought some porridge and soup in case Missus doesn't feel like eating anything heavy when she wakes up."
Santiago nodded appreciatively. "Thank you."
The guard arranged everything neatly on the table before stepping back. "I'll leave you to it, Chief."
"All right."
