Chapter 13 - The Call

Garra waited for her communication to be patched through, sitting in the ruins in silence.

"What is it? Have you made any progress with the boy?" The Vice Minister answered.

"I want fucking answers." The android growled.

"Answers to what?"

"That boy nearly created a black-out zone!" She hissed.

"Then you know what he is. That should answer your question." Amalia answered.

"Why the fuck did you make a calamity class Meteorn our commander?" Garra snarled.

"He was the only viable candidate."

"I told you to destroy us if you couldn't find something normal."

"And I did try, for years even. But humans aren't compatible with the energy. You're close to transmutation yourself, Garra, and you know that. The only thing that can stabilize and control other Meteorn is a stronger one." Amalia explained. "I've invested too much into the 701st to give up now. You should feel fortunate, transmutation is no longer a problem if you let him energize your core. You'll go from an android to an X Type Meteorn, which is far better than the alternative."

"You were planning for us to transmutate..." Garra realized.

"All that work on getting those cores to power androids won't go to waste. The next step is getting Meteorn we control to be born from those cores." Amalia grinned. "The best possible use for our fake Exalted."

"You're fucking insane..."

"I need you get nice and intimate with him, Garra. Be a good girl for me and don't disappoint me." The vice minister cooed before hanging up.

"That bitch!" Garra slammed her rifle on the ground. She hated her creator more than ever. The android leaned back against the wall and sighed. She knew Amalia was right, and transmutation was inevitable for all of the 701st.

She knew how powerful an X-Type was, and the only chance for a successful evolution was to submit herself to the boy. Garra clenched her fists; the thought of being controlled and dominated by someone else infuriated her.

The idea of becoming an independent lifeform wasn't bad in itself, but the price was her body. The boy had no concept of the weight of the burden he was given, and Garra could see him being easily corrupted by the power.

She knew how the Meteorn was; all of the lower-class ones served the higher classes, doing whatever was ordered of them to do.

It was revolting. But the more she thought about it, how was that any different from androids now?

She had a duty to follow orders and obey without question. The 701st were slaves to that single woman who created them. The irony wasn't lost on her, and it made her sick.

Garra closed her eyes and let out a long sigh, striking the wall behind her in frustration. "This fucking sucks... 200 years for this huh?" she muttered to herself.

"Garra." Lina's voice came through the communicator.

She opened her eyes, seeing the Eisendrache hovering in the distance. "What?"

"Are you okay?" Lina asked.

"No..." Garra answered honestly.

"Garra..."

"We lost two in one day." She ruffled her hair.

"I know."

"I'm pissed." Garra grunted. "And I still need to recover Jia's body."

"Calif is already handling it." Lina responded.

"Tell him if comes within three miles of the area, I'll blow his fucking head off. I don't want him to touch Jia." She quickly stood up and grabbed her rifle.

"He's already in the blackout zone since the density lowered, you can't shoot him." Lina argued.

"I will, that's a promise. So give him a heads up to stay away from her body."

"Fine, but he's not going to listen to me."

"I'm sure he will when I start firing at him." Garra leaped off the building.

"I'll make the call."

"Thanks." Garra sprinted across the area.

"Garra wait." Lina spoke up, "Is the commander... dangerous?"

"I'll brief you later when I get back. Since Jia's dead and her tasks are your responsibility now, there's a lot you're going to need to know." She answered before tossing the communication device away.

Garra didn't want to think about anything anymore. She wanted to vent her frustrations on the nearest target, but her priority responsibility tasks came first. She had to retrieve Jia's body.
