Chapter 83 – Breaking Blackbeard's "Physical Absorption"
While Blackbeard looked around for Itachi, Law stared at him with suspicion.
He had just watched Sabo's attack.
Sabo's blows were clearly coated with Armament Haki, meaning they were pure physical strikes.
According to everything Law knew about the Dark-Dark Fruit, those kinds of attacks should not be absorbable.
The fruit could absorb energy-based attacks—like Itachi's fire earlier—and it could temporarily nullify Devil Fruit powers.
But it had never been able to absorb physical blows.
Yet what they had just seen seemed to contradict that.
"Zehahaha!"
Blackbeard laughed loudly.
"What's wrong?"
"Did the brat run away?"
"The entire Riel Callander is surrounded by my ships!"
"Let's see where he can escape to!"
Sabo Attacks Again
Before Blackbeard finished speaking, Sabo charged again.
He launched directly into close combat.
Blackbeard fired a tremor shockwave.
Sabo dodged in mid-air.
The moment the shockwave passed—
His Dragon Claw struck toward Blackbeard's chest.
But instantly, Blackbeard raised his right hand.
Darkness wrapped around it.
Sabo's claw was pulled in again by the dark vortex.
A powerful suction dragged him forward.
"What?!"
Sabo struggled.
"Didn't that trick fail earlier?!"
Blackbeard raised his other fist, already coated in a tremor shockwave.
But suddenly—
The ground beneath him collapsed.
A voice sounded from below.
"Earth Style — Mud Flow!"
Blackbeard glanced down in surprise.
The floor had suddenly softened and sunk beneath him.
But in the next moment, the darkness in his hand expanded.
With one hand he dragged Sabo toward him, and with the other he absorbed the collapsing earth beneath his feet.
Itachi's Ambush
At that moment—
Itachi appeared from the second floor.
His sword Fūrin Kazan, coated in Armament Haki, came crashing down toward Blackbeard.
Blackbeard turned his head and blocked with one hand.
Even Itachi's Haki-coated blade was pulled toward the darkness.
"So that's where you went!"
"Trying to sneak attack me?!"
Blackbeard seized both Itachi and Sabo and threw them away in one motion.
Sabo crashed into a row of seats near Law, but immediately rolled back to his feet.
Itachi spun through the air, landing lightly after several flips.
Law's Question
Seeing Sabo beside him, Law quickly asked:
"You're not a Devil Fruit user, right?"
"That's right," Sabo replied.
"I haven't eaten one yet."
He raised his claws again, confused.
"I only came to this auction hoping to find information about the Flame-Flame Fruit."
"I didn't even bring a weapon."
"That's strange…" Law muttered.
He suddenly switched positions again.
Van Augur's half-body appeared beside them, dragged over by Law's ability.
Law kicked away the sniper's pistol before he could reach it.
Then Law looked at Itachi.
He wanted to say something.
Their plan had been simple:
Capture a member of Blackbeard's crew as a hostage and escape.
They had already reached the final step.
Once outside, they could retreat safely to the harbor.
But Law noticed something strange.
Itachi had raised his sword again.
And his gaze was locked on Blackbeard.
Blackbeard's Claim
"Zehahaha!"
Blackbeard laughed again.
"You think learning about my Devil Fruit will help you?"
"Let me tell you something."
His eyes shone with arrogance.
"My Dark-Dark Fruit can now absorb more than just natural energy."
"It can absorb physical attacks as well!"
"Now my power can swallow everything!"
The pirates still watching the battle felt chills run down their spines.
"Wasn't Blackbeard's weakness supposed to be physical attacks?"
"If even that doesn't work anymore…"
Blackbeard looked directly at Itachi.
"So you wanted to kidnap my crew to force us to open a path?"
"In that case…"
"Let's play."
He raised both hands.
"Dark Water!"
A massive suction force burst toward Itachi.
"Be careful!" Law shouted.
"He can pull ability users directly to him!"
But something strange happened.
Itachi did not move.
The suction had no effect.
"Huh?"
Blackbeard frowned.
He had clearly seen Itachi using fire earlier.
Meanwhile, Itachi had already confirmed something.
Ninjutsu alone would not work.
He raised his blade again—
But suddenly Blackbeard waved his hand.
All the stones and debris he had absorbed earlier shot out like bullets.
They rained toward Itachi.
The Counterattack
Sabo lunged again, kicking toward Blackbeard.
But once more—
Blackbeard grabbed him with Dark Water.
Then he dragged in Itachi as well.
He smashed the two together and kicked them away.
Because Sabo was in front, he absorbed most of the damage.
The kick sent him flying.
Sabo coughed up blood but forced himself back to his feet.
Nearby, Law expanded his ROOM again.
But the spatial field was immediately swallowed by Blackbeard's darkness.
"Zehahaha!"
"You still want to use your abilities?"
Blackbeard raised his hand toward Law.
The tremor shockwave gathered again.
Law dodged quickly.
The shockwave shattered the air, cracks spreading hundreds of meters outward.
After escaping the attack, Law shouted:
"Let's go, Master!"
"Now is not the time to fight him!"
Sabo clenched his fists.
"How is that bastard doing this?!"
He raised his Dragon Claw again.
But just before he attacked—
Itachi held out a hand.
"I'll handle it."
Susanoo Appears
Itachi stepped forward.
His Mangekyō Sharingan spun slowly.
Blackbeard grinned.
"Zehahaha!"
"You still want to challenge the Dark-Dark Fruit?"
He unleashed Dark Water with both hands.
Itachi formed hand seals.
"Fire Style — Great Fireball!"
"Again?"
Blackbeard laughed.
He absorbed the fireball instantly.
"Useless!"
He charged straight through the flames.
But Sabo suddenly noticed something.
Behind Itachi—
A fiery red skeletal arm was forming.
The arm of Susanoo.
Just as the fireball vanished into the darkness—
Itachi appeared in front of Blackbeard.
His Susanoo bone fist, coated in Armament Haki, swung forward.
"Another ability?"
"You're hilarious!"
Blackbeard released even more darkness.
"Zehahaha! As I just told you, my fruit can—"
BOOM!!!
The Susanoo fist punched straight through the darkness.
The impact blasted Blackbeard out of the exchange building.
"AAARGH!"
Blackbeard screamed.
Before he could stand—
Itachi followed, Susanoo's fist raised again.
Blackbeard hurriedly used Dark Water again.
But it was useless.
The massive skeletal fist smashed him deep into the ground.
Blackbeard shrieked in pain.
He tried to unleash another tremor shockwave.
But Susanoo's hand suddenly grabbed him.
CRACK.
Blackbeard felt his bones grinding under the pressure.
"Why… can't I absorb it?!"
Itachi stared at him with cold Mangekyō eyes.
"Because you can't absorb physical attacks at all."
Blackbeard's eyes widened.
"I don't know if your claim was arrogance… or simply a lie."
"But it doesn't matter."
Itachi had already confirmed something.
Unlike Admirals like Kizaru, Blackbeard could not turn his body into an element.
He was still flesh and blood.
Blackbeard coughed up blood as he glared at Itachi.
Then suddenly—
Blood began flowing from Itachi's right eye.
"Amaterasu."
