Chapter 88: Mystic Eyes of Death Perception (Part 1)
At 5:30 in the evening, dusk settled over Konoha.
After leaving the ninja academy, Hanabi Hyuga did not return to the Hyuga clan residence. Instead, she headed directly to Ryuzen's home.

The moment she entered the house, she hurried toward the training gym, a bright smile on her face.
At this hour, Ryuzen should normally be meditating.
But when she reached the gym, Hanabi stopped in surprise.
He wasn't there.
That was unusual.
Ryuzen followed his schedule with almost absolute discipline. Unless it was a mission, he rarely changed his routine.
Did he leave for another mission?
But the door to the house hadn't been locked.
Confused, Hanabi returned to the living room and walked toward Ryuzen's bedroom.
There was no one on the bed.
However, the faint sound of running water could be heard from the bathroom.
Hanabi blinked.
"So he's taking a shower."
She quietly took a small bathrobe from the closet before heading toward the bathroom.
White steam filled the room.
Through the mist, she could barely see a tall figure standing beneath the shower.
Ryuzen spoke without turning around.
"Hanabi?"
"Yes, Brother Ryuzen. I just got back."
Hanabi answered cheerfully.
Later
Afterward, the house returned to its usual quiet.
Hanabi sat beside Ryuzen on the bed, her expression filled with concern.
"Brother Ryuzen… what happened today?"
"Did something go wrong with your training?"
Ryuzen rested his head against one hand.
With the other, he gently patted Hanabi's hair.
"Something like that."
He gave a faint smile that carried both excitement and confusion.
"I gained something today."
"But it almost feels like it erased all the effort I've put in over the past few years."
Hanabi didn't ask what he meant.
Instead, she leaned forward and hugged him.
"If you feel uncomfortable… you can talk about it."
Ryuzen chuckled softly.
He pinched her cheek lightly.
"That little discomfort disappeared after Hanabi came back."
"Besides, it's not really a bad thing."
"Even if it makes some of my past training feel meaningless, it also gives me greater power."
"Power to protect you and your sister."
Hanabi nodded sleepily.
"Then that's good…"
Her eyelids slowly closed.
Within moments, she had fallen asleep beside him.
Ryuzen gently patted her back.
A trace of apology appeared on his face.
Listening to Hanabi's steady breathing, his gaze drifted toward the ceiling.
Memories from earlier that day replayed in his mind.
The New Power
Hours earlier, Ryuzen had tested the ability in the training gym.
A small knife had been embedded into a wooden training dummy.
He didn't use strength.
He simply traced a line along the surface.
The next instant—
The wooden dummy split apart into dozens of pieces.
Years ago, it had taken him more than a year to master the breathing of all things, allowing him to sense the "life" within objects and cut them precisely.
Now, with a single glance—
Wood.
Stone.
Walls.
Even entire structures.
Everything could be cut apart effortlessly.
Compared with this new ability, the breathing of all things felt almost insignificant.
It was not simply cutting.
It was killing.
The power he had obtained was known as the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception.
An ability originating from another world.
It allowed its user to perceive the "death" of all things.
By tracing the lines of death visible to the eyes—
Anything could be destroyed.
This power did not consume chakra.
It did not consume energy.
It was not even truly an ocular technique.
Even if Ryuzen's eyes were transplanted into someone else, they would appear completely ordinary.
The Mystic Eyes were actually an ability of the mind, using the brain to interpret visual information.
A terrifying power that burned the brain itself in exchange for perception.
The deeper one understood the concept of death—
The stronger the ability became.
A famous phrase once described this power perfectly.
"As long as it lives… even a god can be killed."
Those words had been spoken by the second inheritor of the ability.
Shiki Ryougi.
The Limits of the Power
This inheritance was extremely powerful.
But it was also unique.
Just like Mihawk's inheritance before, there were aspects Ryuzen might never surpass.
In this case, it was understanding death itself.
However, there were also aspects where Ryuzen might eventually exceed the original wielder.
Why?
Because the Mystic Eyes belonged to a world where all things originated from the Root, the source that recorded the birth and death of everything.
In that world, Shiki's connection to the Root allowed her to use the ability without limitation.
She could even kill intangible concepts—such as memories, futures, or abstract ideas.
But the Naruto world had no Root.
The foundation that supported the Mystic Eyes in their original world did not exist here.
Which meant that this power—
While terrifying—
Would behave very differently in this new world.
