Chapter 2 - Broken Cage

When he opened his eyes: endless darkness greeted him, he could feel his hands and feet, moving them stiffly, but he couldn't see them.

Confusion swept through his mind, Lucas tried to take a step forward, and he was amazed when his body could move freely, he can't feels the tubes that holding him or the sound of the machines.

Lucas stepped forward, although he couldn't see his feet, he could feel them. Happiness welled up in his heart when he knew that he could walk freely without feeling pain.

He walked around in the dark, jumping and trying to grab anything but to no avail. There was nothing but darkness and emptiness, the happiness he felt soon subsided.

Logic takes the contents inside his mind, is he dreaming? The thought flashed and disappeared quickly as Lucas felt his surroundings.

Even though human indeed sometimes have absurd dreams, their dreams can't be this absurd, right? Hesitantly, he walked and wandered through the directionless darkness: trying to find a way out.

Confusion and fear pressed every inch of his body, every step he took seemed to carry a heavy burden, at that moment he realized that he was truly alone in this strange place.

The loud sound that came from behind his back made Lucas stand on tiptoe in surprise, he turned around as fast as lightning and saw a beam of light coming from above.

From his place, he could vaguely see the iron bars that formed a giant cage. Lucas walked closer, his curiosity piqued by the sight.

Stopping in front of the cage, his gaze landed on the caged creature, which was an eagle. The size of the eagle is almost as big as the bars of the cage that confined it.

Before he could pay closer attention, a pair of hands immediately covered his eyes, then came a soft, soothing voice sounded in his ears, mysterious and eerie.

"Little lost bird, how about going back to where you came from?"

A cold sensation flowed throughout his body, Lucas shivered unconsciously, he tried to free himself but his body was frozen and he couldn't move.

"Y-you, who are you?!" Lucas asked, his vision obscured by a pair of hands. He could feel in his consciousness that there was a figure that was looking at him with close attention.

"I could tell you, but I like playing guessing games, how about you guess?"

Lucas frowned, he tried shaking his head left and right to shake off the hand covering his hand but failed. He finally nodded quietly, trying to cooperate with whatever the silhouette asked, the figure smiled happily to see him being so cooperative as they immediately gave him the clue.

"Let's see: She is the one who conquered the night and the one who feared by the thunder as she lived alongside the darkness and the unknown."

Lucas was rendered speechless when he heard the clue, he tried to think of something, but nothing came to mind. He seemed to be missing the point of the guess.

"Before that, were you a Goddess?" He asked to be sure, considering the strangeness he was experiencing now, a human couldn't be the perpetrator. So it's either an supernatural creature or something higher.

...

There was no answer, Lucas frowned, then said. "Nyx?" Lucas asked again. Initially, he wanted to answer Nox, but the clue didn't mention their relationship with Somnus or Mors which made him feel strange.

"Good job little bird." Smiling, Nyx removed her hand from Lucas' eyes, now he manage to see her, a gasp left his lips seeing how her figure is large enough to cover the entire sky as she floats above him.

It's a woman with dark purplish skin, her hair is a dark blue with white sparkles like the stars and moons that adorning her entire body along with a purplish galaxy that appear to be a long dress that was cut at the side.

Lucas couldn't help but be amazed when he saw her appearance, she's certainly beautiful, ethereal even, every movement the Goddess brought has a certain grace and majesty that can't compare with human beauty.

Nyx smiled at Lucas expression, a small laugh that escaped her lips seemed to bring the young man out of his daze. Lucas immediately came back to his senses and looked at Nyx with a sense of wariness.

"Where am I actually?" He asked Nyx, trying to find out information about his current whereabouts.

Nyx stared at him deeply, for a moment. No words came out of her mouth, Nyx turned her gaze to the bird in the cage. "Child, I won't lie to you. This bird in the cage is related to you, if I let it go, then you will die. Then, you will live in another world." Those words came out of Nyx's mouth as she walked closer to the caged bird, who was staring at them with sharp and narrow eyes.

Lucas blinked, surprised to hear the Goddess's words, he wondered if he was being lied to but found that Nyx's expression looked serious when she looked at him.

"You're kidding, right? How could I be a bird—"

Siiiinggggggg—

His sentence stopped as his head ached, fragments of foreign memories entered his consciousness. Lucas fell to his knees as he held his head while groaning in pain.

"Are you serious?! Sacrificing yourself like this-!? It's not funny, ꂚꀤꀘꍏ!"

"I will never let you sacrifice yourself, our people still need you, bro..."

"They need the sun, the light of their hope... However, they don't need the moon which is useless without the sun..."

A trail of blood flowed out of Lucas' lips, the pained sound that left his lips slowly disappear when his body sway and fell to the ground with a loud thud, the darkness embracing his vision.

Nyx watched silently on the side without doing anything, she looked at the eagle who was staring at the two of them expressionlessly. The Goddess waved her palm: the cage door opened with loud clang and the bird walked out in arrogance.

"I have kept my promise, Zehyperus," Nyx spoke to the bird while seeing it transformation into a more humanoid figure as large as her size.

"I hope you keep your promise." The Goddess added, looking at Lucas who was suddenly already in Zehyperus' arms. Nyx can see it as clear as day the complex emotions that flash on the man face.

"There's no need to worry. According to the agreement, I will complete his missing fragment. It's time for the sun and the moon to return the balance of ꓄ꃅꍏ꒒꒦ꍏꋪꀤꑄ..."

Zehyperus smiled a gently, his irises glinting slyly as he walked away while carrying Lucas in his arms, it was time for the world to welcome the rebirth of their dying god.

Nyx watched him go in silence, her gaze landing back on the cage which was slowly disappearing like the traces of Lucas's sign of life fading in the real world.

"The wheels of fate are starting to turn, the red threads are woven into intricate ties. Where this story will go, only you will be able to tell."

"Interfering in the affairs of the human world is taboo. However Nyx does not regret having done so, if judgment from thee finally arrives, this Goddess hopes that the contribution of her interference will be worth thy consideration." Nyx continued as she raised her head, looking somewhere on the starry sky for the watcher.
