Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: The Octopus’s Web and the Master Gambit

As the morning sun cast a crimson glow over Dhaka, Ariyan Hossain stood in his office at the Secretariat, enveloped in a strange, heavy silence. After the failed poisoning attempt and the foiled economic collapse, it was crystal clear to Ariyan that the enemy was preparing for a final, desperate strike. Intelligence suggested that Edward had burned his international passport and was hiding in a Southeast Asian country under a new alias, from where it would be easy to launch an attack on Bangladesh. At that moment, the secure red phone on Ariyan's desk—reserved for the highest emergencies—rang sharply. It was the Director General of National Security Intelligence (NSI), and his voice was laden with urgency. "Sir, we have confirmed reports that Shahed Saodagar's cadres are planning a prison break. They've mapped out a secret tunnel or a breach within the central prison." Ariyan knew that if Shahed escaped, he would merge Edward's vast wealth with his own local influence to incite something akin to a civil war. Ariyan immediately ordered the Police Commissioner to quadruple prison security and decided to personally inspect the facility.

As Ariyan's convoy sped toward the Old Dhaka central prison, the streets were eerily desolate, as if nature itself were holding its breath before a great storm. Accompanying him were Raihan and four elite members of his new commando team. Raihan was constantly scanning the digital feeds of the prison's CCTV cameras on his laptop. Suddenly, he shouted, "Sir! The gate signal is blinking erratically. Someone is hacking the security system from the inside!" Ariyan ordered the driver to floor the accelerator, but without warning, a massive lorry swerved across the road, blocking their path. A group of masked gunmen leaped out of the lorry and opened fire on Ariyan's vehicle with heavy weaponry. This was no ordinary assault; it was a meticulously planned ambush. Ariyan's bulletproof car shuddered under the impact of the shells, but he remained calm, directing his commandos to return fire. The warrior in Ariyan took charge as he threw a smoke grenade outside to create cover for their counter-maneuver.

Suddenly, a massive explosion rocked the prison walls. Shahed Saodagar's loyalists had blown up the rear wall with dynamite. Ariyan realized that the street ambush was merely a diversion; the real objective was Shahed's liberation. He tried to push through the fog of smoke to reach the prison, but the gunfire was relentless, and the situation was spiraling out of control. At home, Raisa saw the news of the attack and collapsed in tears, but nine-year-old Aman held her hand firmly. "Don't be afraid, Ma. I'm cutting through their jammers using the drone's frequency," he said. Aman's small fingers flew across his keyboard, navigating a surveillance drone directly over the prison and using a powerful laser beam to highlight the positions of the hidden gunmen. Following the laser cues, Ariyan's commandos eliminated the threats with precision. After a bloody skirmish, the attackers retreated, but when Ariyan reached the shattered cell, Shahed Saodagar was gone.

Reports flooded in that Shahed was being whisked away toward the border in a private helicopter. Ariyan realized that Edward wasn't just conspiring from abroad; he was using someone within the country's high command who had the power to bypass Air Force radar. Ariyan immediately contacted the Air Force Chief, ordering the total sealing of all borders and intensified aerial patrols. He felt the enemy's web tightening around him like an octopus. Raisa pleaded with him to return home, but Ariyan knew that if he stopped now, the country would descend into chaos. He ordered Raihan to track Shahed, recalling that a bio-chip had been secretly implanted in Shahed during his first arrest. Raihan stared at the screen and shouted, "Sir! Shahed is moving toward a deserted island in the Bay of Bengal. A foreign vessel is waiting for him there!" Without a second thought, Ariyan jumped into a Coast Guard interceptor boat and sped into the turbulent waves of the ocean.

A violent storm erupted mid-sea; the sky collapsed into torrential rain, and massive waves threatened to capsize the boat. His commandos urged him to turn back, but Ariyan's resolve was as unyielding as a mountain. He knew that if Shahed reached that foreign ship, catching him in international waters would be impossible. Just as Shahed's helicopter prepared to land on the ship's deck, Ariyan activated a powerful jamming signal from his boat, neutralizing the helicopter's navigation system. Unable to stabilize, the helicopter missed the deck and crashed into the shallow waters near the shore. Ariyan dived into the water, swam to the wreckage, and dragged a wounded Shahed out by his collar. Shahed groaned in pain, his eyes filled with a mixture of hatred and fear. He whispered, "Ariyan, you caught me, but you'll never catch Edward. He is very close to you... someone in your own office is his mole."

These words struck Ariyan like a thunderbolt. He handed Shahed over to the Coast Guard and rushed back to Dhaka. He began a covert investigation into every file, every official, and even his personal staff. Ariyan felt the battlefield shift from the streets into his own drawing room. He asked Aman to re-scan the CCTV footage of his office from the last three months. After hours of work, Aman uncovered a shocking truth. His once-trusted PS, whom Ariyan had previously forgiven, was communicating with Edward through a specialized encrypted app. He had been leaking the details of every secret meeting. Ariyan was stunned; the betrayal of his trust felt like a physical blow. But Raisa came to him, holding his hand. "Ariyan, do not lose faith in humanity. Just punish those who are traitors."

Ariyan summoned the PS to his room and placed the evidence before him. The man had no answer; he simply stood there with his head bowed in shame. Ariyan handed him over to the police and let out a long, weary sigh. He wrote in his diary that when he was a boy in Joypurhat, studying under a streetlamp, the world seemed so simple. Now, at the pinnacle of power, he saw that every relationship was a game of interests. Edward was a fugitive and Shahed was back in a high-security cell, but Ariyan knew this was merely the silence before a greater storm. This was a story of painful self-purification.

Standing on the balcony of the Secretariat, watching the night lights of Dhaka, Ariyan remembered his father's words: "The higher a tree grows, the more it must endure the buffetings of the wind." Today, Ariyan was enduring those winds, and his morale had only strengthened. He called Aman and placed a hand on his head. "Son, always remember, patriotism is a part of faith. Never betray your soil." Aman looked into his father's eyes and vowed to protect the future of Bangladesh. This phase ended with intense drama, as Ariyan identified the enemy within. But what would be Edward's final move? What was written in that mysterious letter that arrived from Geneva? Ariyan's final words in his diary were:

"They tried to break my home, but they didn't know that my walls are built with the love of millions. The masks of the traitors have fallen. I may be mentally exhausted, but my will to fight has multiplied. Shahed is back in my cage, and I will close Edward's escape routes forever. The fight has shifted from personal to national. We will win, for truth never decays."

As night turns to dawn, Ariyan prepares for a new pile of files and new conspiracies. The story of a nation standing tall is being written.
