Five minutes later, Yukino Yukinoshita had finally learned from Luo Yu what the Carian Magic Academy actually was.
"Another world? You mean… you're from another world?"
Looking at Luo Yu—who appeared no different from an ordinary human—and recalling Ranni, whom she had met the previous night, Yukino found it difficult to associate either of them with the idea of being from another world.
Luo Yu smiled.
"Although I did come from another world, I am still human. Those two things don't contradict each other."
"As for Ranni, she didn't originally look like this. In the past she was a demigod, but she abandoned her demigod body and placed her soul inside a doll."
"In the end, she followed me here. Her current body is still that doll."
"I'm currently researching how to create a real body for her."
Yukino felt as though her worldview had been shaken yet again. The sheer amount of new information left her almost overwhelmed—she even forgot to continue eating the rice ball in her hand.
Miko Yotsuya asked curiously,
"Then Luo Yu… is making Ranni's new body very difficult? Do you need modern scientific technology for something like that?"
Luo Yu shook his head.
"Using modern science to grow biological tissue would certainly be fast."
"But the strength of such a body couldn't be guaranteed, and it likely wouldn't be able to properly carry Ranni's demigod soul."
"So I decided to use magic instead."
"I already have most of the materials I need, but some technical details still require careful research and refinement. It will take quite a bit of time."
"Fortunately, the doll body Ranni uses now doesn't interfere with her daily actions. It's far better than the tiny doll she used at the beginning."
Miko Yotsuya thought for a moment and couldn't help smiling.
"Hehe… that little doll really was too small. It must have been hard for her to move properly."
Then she turned toward Yukino.
"Yukino Yukinoshita, even though there aren't many people in our group, would you still like to join?"
"I think having fewer people has its advantages. At least there aren't too many rules."
"And Ranni is really kind—she's been teaching me magic very seriously!"
After hearing the full explanation, Yukino finally understood why Luo Yu had said there were only four members.
Because the rest of the academy wasn't in this world.
They existed in the other world known as The Lands Between.
Finishing the rice ball in a few quick bites, Yukino looked at Luo Yu and said,
"I would also like to learn magic. Is that possible?"
Since childhood, Yukino had read many fantasy stories.
Naturally, she had always harbored a small fascination with magic.
Now that she had the opportunity to actually learn it, she didn't want to let it pass by.
After asking, she paused before continuing,
"And if I join… what kind of responsibilities would I have?"
Before Luo Yu could answer, Miko Yotsuya blinked in confusion.
Thinking about it, she realized that since joining, she hadn't actually done anything at all.
She instinctively turned to look at Luo Yu as well.
Luo Yu simply smiled.
"With your current strength, what do you think you could realistically do?"
"Although this might sound discouraging, it's simply the truth."
"With the power Ranni and I possess, we won't need you to handle anything for quite a long time."
"So your only responsibility right now is to improve yourselves."
"Only then will you have the chance to help us in the future—and better protect yourselves."
"And besides, we're not some strict organization."
"Even the original Carian Magic Academy in The Lands Between wasn't like that. Most of the sorcerers there were simply focused on researching magic and exploring its limits."
"There weren't many complicated rules."
Yukino nodded thoughtfully.
"I understand."
"But I don't want to accept your magic knowledge for free. You also helped me yesterday."
"If there's anything you need from me, please feel free to ask."
"Alright," Luo Yu replied with a small smile. "I'll remember that."
After finishing lunch, the three of them didn't leave immediately.
Instead, Luo Yu began thinking about how he should guide Yukino in learning to use her new abilities.
When she transformed into a Nekomata, Yukino's physical abilities would increase significantly.
And Nekomata were synonymous with agility.
That meant there were several combat styles that might suit her.
Looking at Yukino's hands, Luo Yu asked,
"Yukino, if you were going to fight, would you prefer using your claws in your transformed state, or would you rather use a weapon?"
"A weapon," Yukino replied almost instantly.
She frowned slightly as she recalled the unpleasant experience of walking straight through an evil spirit the previous night.
"I'd rather fight with a weapon."
Luo Yu nodded.
"I have several weapons suited for agile fighting styles."
"Claws, fist weapons, and beast claws are good options. I also know several combat techniques that pair well with them."
"Besides that, there are also some excellent daggers. Combined with special Ashes of War, they can be extremely powerful."
As he spoke, Luo Yu pulled out two items.
The first was a pair of claw weapons that resembled the forepaws of a massive bear. They were covered in deep red fur and extended all the way to the user's forearms.
The second was a strange dagger with a twisted blade and serrated edges.
"This pair of beast claws is called Red Bear Claws."
"As the name suggests, they were modified from the claws of a giant red bear. They grant the user tremendous power."
Both girls stared at the claws in surprise.
Miko Yotsuya even leaned closer and touched them.
"They're fluffy… and rough at the same time. Are these really bear claws?"
Luo Yu nodded.
"Though not from a bear I personally encountered."
"I found them in a spirit temple within the Land of Shadow. The spirit there wore the Red Bear Claws."
"After defeating it, I obtained the weapon."
Yukino examined the claws carefully.
They were easily much larger than her own hands.
After a moment, she turned her attention to the dagger.
Luo Yu immediately began explaining.
"This dagger is called Reduvia."
"You could say it's a specialty weapon from the Mohgwyn Dynasty in The Lands Between."
"It comes with a unique skill that releases blood blades capable of causing bleeding damage—and it can be used repeatedly."
Yukino stared at the strangely shaped dagger.
Although she didn't particularly like its appearance, she still asked,
"May I try holding it?"
"Of course."
Luo Yu handed the dagger to her.
Yukino carefully grasped the hilt.
The moment she did, she felt a strange power flowing through the blade.
Her blood seemed to surge.
An inexplicable urge to swing the weapon rose inside her.
Almost unconsciously, she raised the dagger—
But Luo Yu immediately grabbed her forearm and stopped her.
"Looks like it's still a bit too much for you."
"It's not suitable for you to use right now."
He gently took the dagger back and stored it in his inventory space.
The moment the weapon left her hand, Yukino took several deep breaths, clearly shaken.
"What… was that feeling just now?"
Luo Yu explained calmly,
"Weapons from the Mohgwyn Dynasty are deeply connected to blood."
"They're not easy to control. You need strong mental preparation before using them."
"For now, it's better to train with ordinary weapons first."
After putting everything away, Luo Yu suddenly turned his gaze toward the door of the clubroom.
Both girls followed his line of sight.
