Chapter 33 - 33

"Bang—!"

A more violent crash reverberated again,

As if there was some huge creature outside the church, frantically slamming into the church's ceiling, each impact more forceful than the last. Coupled with the faint dust beginning to fall, Javier immediately had a bad premonition. The church's ceiling did not seem as sturdy as he had imagined.

"Boom—!"

The next second,

An even more violent crash struck.

This time, the church's ceiling finally could no longer hold. The entire roof was smashed, creating a huge hole, and shattered bricks violently crashed down. Javier, who was in the center of the church, quickly dodged in a panic. At this very moment, the huge creature also extended its head through the hole in the church roof…

"Oh, shit—!"

"What the hell is this thing? Even if it grew by sucking blood, it shouldn't be like this. Quick, go invite Jesus, the Divine Son of the Western Heaven, no… Van Helsing and Blade will do too! Can this thing really appear in Resident Evil?"

Although he often played Resident Evil games before, Javier couldn't help but be startled the first time he actually saw such an enormous giant bat, and quickly cursed in a low voice.

"Roar, roar, roar—!!!"

At this very moment,

The monstrous giant bat was struggling to squeeze in through the hole above the church. Its pair of enormous bat wings, like a dark curtain, blotted out the sky, fiercely flapping in the church's mid-air, stirring up gusts of wind.

Its scarlet eyes, as large as lanterns, its pig-like nose twitching and everted, its ears, large as palm-leaf fans, swayed. Opening its mouth, a pair of pristine, sharp fangs were exposed from its foul-smelling maw, as pointed and long as elephant tusks. If bitten… it would likely instantly pierce flesh like a spear.

Javier had no doubt.

This thing definitely didn't suck blood.

Instead, it ate people directly. With that huge mouth, eating a pig in three bites seemed to be no problem at all. What made Javier even more incredulous was who created such a monster. Could it be Marcus from the Institute again?! If so, that would truly be too much of a calamity, and he'd deserve to be killed!

"Roar, roar, roar—!!!"

Another roar struck.

Javier felt his ears had gone deaf, hearing only the giant bat's continuous screeching. The small bats that were originally hiding outside the church began to surge into the church's interior. The number of mutated bats, which had previously dwindled to twenty or thirty, was now surprisingly increasing again. This was exactly as Javier had guessed; this monster possessed the ability to command its kin!

If it continued to call out like this,

Javier didn't even know how many mutated bats he would have to face later. It was completely an annoying boss that could infinitely summon minions. Javier always hated this kind of boss the most, because these things wasted the most bullets.

"Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—!!!"

However, the next second,

The dense swarm of small mutated bats, under the giant bat's command, quickly organized an attack, forming a line, and all of them, like bombers about to fall, rapidly swooped towards Javier's direction.

"Damn it—!"

Seeing this,

Javier immediately cursed, disregarding the flames still burning at the study door, and rolled in, directly escaping into the study. He also quickly told Rebecca and Billy to close the study door.

Perhaps realizing the gravity of the situation,

Rebecca and Billy Coen quickly pushed bookshelves to use their weight to firmly brace the study door. But even so… the fierce bats outside remained undeterred, fearlessly and relentlessly slamming into the study door, one after another. A series of muffled thuds continuously emanated from the study door.

This was bad news.

Fifty or so mutated bats possessed immense strength, and with such desperate impacts, the study door would not hold for long. In a few more minutes, it would likely be gnawed through by these mutated bats. If a hole was smashed open, then these mutated bats would desperately surge in.

At that time, if they were all crammed into this narrow study, they would truly be overwhelmed by the mutated bats, and Javier's previous idea of using the study as a retreat would completely turn into a foolish trap, a self-inflicted death!

"…"

"No, if we keep dragging this out in here, the bats outside will sooner or later break through the door and rush in. We must find a way to break out!"

Feeling the increasing pressure on the door, the young girl Rebecca desperately braced it with her body, then said with a troubled expression.

And it wasn't just her; Javier and Billy had also thought of this, but the key issue was… they currently didn't have a very good solution.

And at this very moment,

Javier thought of the only trump card weapon in his tactical backpack, the big banana. That thing was indeed more effective than Van Helsing and Blade themselves. The only ultimate weapon in Resident Evil, the RPG. To be safe, Javier had brought one round, but only one. He had never used it until now.

Javier was certain that with one RPG round, let alone the giant mutated bat, even Marcus's mother would be taken care of. But the problem was… Javier was reluctant to use it, because he didn't know if there would be stronger bosses later, so he had to save it as a trump card!

But at this moment,

It was already a very critical and dangerous time.

This required Javier to make a choice himself!

And this choice,

Seemed to have come a bit too quickly, and it was a mandatory choice—!

Because…

"Roar, roar, roar—!!!"

"Bang—!!!"

Just as Javier was still hesitating and thinking if there was a better way,

A huge sound suddenly struck, only to hear a "bang"! On one side of the church study, the glass window, originally blocked by bookshelves, was suddenly violently shattered, and a huge head appeared inside the study. Its scarlet eyes and head slowly broke free from the shattered bookshelf, then stared intently at the three hiding Javier.

The giant bat opened its foul-smelling mouth and roared excitedly at the three Javier, as if it was just one step away from devouring all three of them!

And this commotion…

Also startled the three Javier. Who knew this giant mutated bat was so bold, daring to charge in with its body, even smashing through the study window glass and directly entering the study's interior. Now… their only retreat was truly blocked. They were trapped inside, unable to get out or escape!

If those small mutated bats surged in later, they would truly be trapped in this study and die—

And seeing how things had developed so far,

There was no more time for Javier to think. As the backbone of the team, he had to make the most correct choice!

"Quick!"

"Open the door, we can't keep hiding in here. Rebecca, Billy, I'll clear the way! We must break out of the church to have a chance at survival. Staying in here is a dead end!"

At the critical moment,

Javier did not hesitate for a single moment, immediately making what he believed was the most correct choice. Hearing Javier's words, Rebecca and Billy also did not hesitate at all, immediately reacting. They pulled away the bookshelf blocking the study, gripped the doorknob, and prepared to open it.

And to be able to make such a quick reaction,

It was also because Rebecca and Billy trusted Javier's decision enough. After all, all this way... Javier had never lied to them, nor had he made a wrong decision. Therefore, Javier's words were enough for them to trust him without any hesitation!

"Clang—!"

The bookshelf fell with a crisp sound.

Just as Rebecca was about to open the study door, Javier quickly pulled out the crudely made Molotov cocktail from his tactical backpack, lit the oily rag, and fiercely threw it through the door crack. Then he quickly pulled out his Desert Eagle pistol, aimed…!

With the door crack only a few tens of centimeters open,

He pulled the trigger without any hesitation.

Javier was still very confident in his shooting talent.

"Click…"

"Boom—!!!"

Another loud bang.

The bullet left the barrel, and the orange, thumb-sized projectile rapidly shot towards the Molotov cocktail thrown into the air! And the moment he fired, Javier lunged forward, tightly gripping Rebecca's slender hand, and slammed the nearly open study door shut again.

"Clang!"

"Puff… Boom boom boom…!!!"

The Molotov cocktail, following a graceful parabolic trajectory, was thrown into the air, followed closely by a bullet. The two collided, once again producing the previous wonderful chemical reaction. The explosion power, like an incendiary bomb, suddenly expanded and rose, and the entire church was once again enveloped by a scorching fireball.

And the three Javier, who had timely closed the study door,

Successfully dodged the fiery aftermath of the Molotov cocktail explosion, completely unharmed. But the mutated bats outside were not so lucky. Just moments ago, they were frantically slamming against the fragile study door, but they didn't expect a Molotov cocktail to suddenly fly out of the door crack, and then be blown up by a bullet. Upon contact—

Only a "whoosh" was heard!

A violent flame expanded,

All of them, this group of bats, were engulfed by the flames. With the end of the scorching flames, all that remained were charred bodies emitting a burnt smell on the ground. In an instant… the mutated small bats that had been blocking the door were completely wiped out again. The fifty or so that had gathered with great difficulty were reduced to about a dozen again.

It can only be said…

Javier's fire magic was indeed cleverly executed.

Because Javier knew that it was not the right time to break out immediately. He had to douse the outside with fire first, otherwise, if they ran out recklessly and encountered fifty or so mutated bats head-on, they would surely be bitten and surrounded. That's why Javier thought of using the Molotov cocktail to perform another fire magic trick.

After all, using the Desert Eagle to shoot the Molotov cocktail to increase its explosion power was not something he was doing for the first time…

And now—

Now that these small mutated bats were almost eliminated, it was their best time to break out.

"Now's our chance…"

"Rebecca, Billy, let's get out of here!"

Kicking open the study door again,

Javier rushed out first, his face lighting up with a look of "just as expected" as he saw the mutated bats scattered on the ground, emitting a strong burnt smell. He then quickly turned to Rebecca and Billy behind him and reminded them—

Chapter 43: Sonic Interference

The mutated bats were almost completely wiped out, which gave the three Javier a very high chance of breaking out. After all, if these small mutated bats were not dealt with, they might get bitten and infected with the virus as soon as they stepped out, which would be a very troublesome matter!

And now,

After Javier's clever fire magic successfully eliminated most of the bats, at this very moment… Rebecca and Billy Coen naturally didn't hesitate. Following behind Javier, they rushed out with their shotgun and pistol.

If any small mutated bat dared to charge at them, they would reward it with a peanut to taste. After all, don't bats like to eat fruit? They should be satisfied with a peanut-flavored snack too!

"Thump, thump, thump…"

"Thump, thump, thump…"

"Thump, thump, thump…"

Three hurried footsteps sounded,

After a myriad of dangers, the three successfully broke out from the church's study to the outside of the church. At this very moment… looking at the church engulfed in flames, the three Javier finally understood what that strange aura was before.

Because from now on,

The originally sacred church had become much more evil, like a demonic lair, filled with mutated bats everywhere. It would be strange if the aura wasn't eerie!

As for the gigantic mutated bat leader—

At this very moment, it was still struggling with the church study window. After all, the church study window was so narrow, and this giant bat was still trying to force its head inside. It probably wouldn't be able to break free for a while.

But even so,

It didn't mean the three Javier were completely safe.

Because until the giant bat inside was completely dead, they would not achieve true safety. After all, this giant bat could summon minions. If it were allowed to continue living, it would probably be able to summon hundreds of mutated bats again later. At that point, if these mutated bats continued their carpet search,

Then the three Javier would have nowhere to hide, not just within the Institute, but even within the entire Akeley Mountains. They would all be found—!

Therefore,

They had to find a way to kill the giant bat in front of them.

But the problem was… they didn't seem to have a very good way to kill the giant bat in front of them. After all, they were already having a hard enough time dealing with these small bat servants, so where would they find the energy to deal with the remaining giant bat?

Catching the leader first is a good strategy, but the problem is… they don't seem to be able to get to this "king." This is very frustrating—

"Phew…"

"Finally escaped. Where's that giant bat?"

"Javier, we have to make another choice. We have to kill that giant bat, otherwise, we won't be able to leave here safely."

Just after running out of the church, Rebecca let out a heavy sigh of relief. Looking up and seeing no sign of the giant bat, she couldn't help but murmur in confusion. Billy Coen, beside her, had a grave expression. This was probably the most disheveled he had ever been.

But even so,

Billy Coen still clearly understood the situation. Their crisis had not been resolved. If they didn't completely kill that giant bat, they would be relentlessly hunted down. Understanding this, Billy Coen then questioned Javier.
