He was a middle-aged man dressed in incredibly magnificent and luxurious attire, with flaxen-brown hair slicked back, a handlebar mustache, and sparse eyebrows over deep, sinister eyes.
Leaning over to look through a telescope, the middle-aged man saw a large number of SWAT Officers slowly descending from the school building. Without a moment's hesitation, he turned to the subordinates behind him and gave his orders.
This middle-aged man was none other than the leader of the Family Organization and the US Senior National Security Advisor, Derek Simmons!
After saying those words,
a large group of death-sworn soldiers disguised as terrorists slowly headed downstairs. Their movements were orderly, and their plan was to split into two groups for a sneak attack.
One group would open fire outside the school to engage in a fierce battle and draw the attention of the SWAT Officers, making the opposition believe they were just a bunch of brainless terrorists attacking.
The other group would secretly scale the walls to slip into the campus, strike directly at the President's office, and release the bio-virus upon him.
Because of Helena,
the number of armed SWAT Officers protecting the President was bound to be extremely low. By the time they realized what was happening, it would be too late. This was an incredibly clever surprise attack.
As for Helena...
While this pawn couldn't actually help Simmons kill the President, she could serve as the perfect scapegoat. After all, the person closest to the President at the time would be Helena.
Coupled with her reputation for emotional instability and frequent use of excessive force on suspects, and the fact that Helena had secretly sent a radio warning,
even if the source couldn't be traced, they only needed to catch Helena and find the device on her to prove she was the one who sent the warning.
With that, any charge they pinned on her would stick.
This was Helena's true utility to Simmons.
Not only did she help him disperse the President's security detail, but she also took the fall as the true assassin. It was a perfect scheme to kill two birds with one stone!
Volume 9 Resident Evil 6: Chapter 5 Republic of Edonia
December 24, 2012—
The Republic of Edonia, a country in the far reaches of Eastern Europe.
The Russians were being vilified as usual. Ever since the collapse of the Soviet Union in the 90s, with the exception of the major power Russia, the rest of the Far Eastern nations remained in a state of chaotic civil war on a daily basis.
This included the East Slavic Republic, which Leon had dealt with in the past. Internal regimes faced riots, and many factions sought to seize the nation through revolution.
This caused constant daily unrest within the country.
Taking the East Slavic Republic as an example, in order to seize power and eliminate rival forces, they had all resorted to using bio-organic weapons to aid their combat.
The revolutionary army, acting as the rebels, bred Lickers to join the battlefield, while the President's side, representing the local government, researched the BOW Tyrant for their confrontation.
From this, it was evident,
that bio-organic weapons, BOWs, had completely integrated into warfare.
These war-torn nations, riding the wave of the bio-virus craze, had become increasingly unscrupulous. At first, it was just secret research,
but now it was blatant.
They began airlifting large quantities of BOWs onto the battlefield; as long as they could win, nothing else mattered.
That was why Javier once said...
Humans are the most evil ones. The bio-virus has always been just a weapon; it could never be the key to human extinction. What leads to human extinction is always their own greed!
Shifting the focus back—
The Republic of Edonia,
was currently the civil war-torn nation most brazenly using BOWs. During large-scale urban siege battles,
the revolutionary army and the Government Forces slaughtered each other. To win, the revolutionary army began using transport planes to airlift large numbers of Giant Zombies into the fray, and countless other swarming zombie monsters entered the city.
At this point, they likely didn't care about so-called biological infection; as long as they could wipe out the opposing force, it was enough.
As for this city overrun by bio-monsters,
it would eventually only take a missile bombardment to clear it out. Some soldiers even injected themselves with the new c-virus strain, "J'avo," researched by bio-virus factions.
Once injected into the body, they would gain extraordinary strength.
Moreover, it wouldn't affect their intelligence or appearance, except for the clusters of spider-like eyes growing on their foreheads.
Only when near death would their flesh explode, completely transforming them into inhuman monsters. These weapons, comparable to suicide trucks, were utilized by the insurgent revolutionary army.
Such blatant use of BOWs
immediately drew the attention of the global anti-bioterrorism organization, BSAA. Today, the BSAA has become the world's largest anti-bioterrorism force.
It has branch bases all over the world. And as luck would have it, Chris Redfield, now a legendary hero of the BSAA,
was leading his subordinates into the Republic of Edonia to investigate the source of these BOWs.
They couldn't stop the war between the local revolutionary army and the Government Forces,
but they had to find the source of these BOWs and destroy it.
After all, the BSAA could not stand idly by while these factions brazenly spread BOWs. The organizations selling these bio-weapons were the true root of evil!
Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat-tat...!!!!!
Inside a military-green transport helicopter,
several Special Operations Units with BSAA patches on their arms were standing by in the cabin. They were volunteers and soldiers from all over the world,
and their sole objective
was to eliminate all bio-weapons and viruses in the world,
restoring a stable life for the people of the world. This was their shared ideal. Because it was a dangerous profession, everyone who joined had to have the resolve to face death!
And on this trip...
Their destination was the cities of the Republic of Edonia below.
Below was the primary battleground where the Government Forces and the revolutionary army clashed, and a large number of BOWs had been deployed there.
Their mission was not to join the war to help one side win, but to investigate the true source of the BOWs.
However, the level of danger was no different from entering a battlefield to fight a war.
Quite a few recruits were trembling. After all, being sent straight into a war zone to find the source of BOWs—who could stay composed under that?
Fortunately, though,
the captain of this special unit was the legendary hero famous throughout the BSAA, Chris Redfield!
As one of the original eleven founders of the BSAA,
the legendary Chris's name was renowned among the countless newcomers who had just joined the BSAA. Many of them had joined specifically because of him.
Three years ago, after Chris eliminated Wesker and thwarted Tricell's conspiracy, his reputation reached its absolute peak.
Everyone knew he was the nemesis of bio-viruses.
Wherever he went, the bio-virus would be eradicated.
Therefore... having this legendary hero present made many of the newcomers in the squad feel much more at ease.
Unfortunately,
they didn't know that Chris possessed a passive 'Teammate Killer' debuff.
Moreover, they were currently riding in a transport helicopter—the 'Cannon Fodder Sacrifice' buff and the 'Vehicle Slayer' buff were both active.
Heading out with these two buffs, Javier didn't even know how these people were supposed to survive. They were purely there to be sacrificed for Chris's power-up.
"A troublesome mission..."
"After the successive collapses of Umbrella and Tricell, who exactly is still spreading bio-weapons..."
Inside the transport helicopter cabin,
Chris, with his powerfully muscled physique, sat quietly by the window, unable to help but mutter a sigh as he looked at the scenery outside.
Chris had now reached his physical peak; his arms were frighteningly thick. He wore a military-green tactical suit with a heavy bulletproof vest over his chest, and his short hair was as clean-cut as ever.
His face bore the marks of time, but it remained incredibly rugged—the image of a standard tough guy.
However, Chris didn't realize...
That this would be the final battle of his physical prime. After this incident, he would completely transform into an old man with graying temples.
Because as an ordinary human,
he could never truly withstand the erosion of time,
nor could he complete the heavy task of eliminating all bio-viruses in the world. Eventually, due to the aging of his body, he would have to pass the torch to a new generation.
This was the eternal legacy of humanity. Will can be inherited, and as long as it continues to be passed down, it is eternal...!
Still,
the number of people he knew around him was indeed dwindling.
Barry was already enjoying his golden years, living a retired life with his family. Javier, his former comrade-turned-enemy, had gone his separate way.
Even Jill had stepped back from the BSAA frontlines and was currently working in the logistics department alongside his sister, Claire.
Now, only Leon remained on the frontlines with him. And speaking of Leon and his sister Claire,
Chris felt a headache coming on.
He had intended to set Claire and Leon up, but after all this time, there had been no progress. He didn't know if there was any hope for those two.
After all, Chris thought very highly of Leon.
As an older brother, he didn't mind, but Claire wasn't getting any younger. If she didn't marry soon, she might never.
"Captain, we're almost at Edonia."
"The city is currently in the middle of a fierce civil war. The helicopter can't get any closer. We'll have to make an emergency landing on the outskirts and then push forward in armored vehicles..."
However,
at that moment,
a young soldier sitting next to him spoke up to remind the dazed Chris. Hearing the voice,
Chris slowly snapped out of it.
Looking at the young man beside him who was clearly worried about him, Chris gave a slight smile. Fortunately... he still had his last companions by his side.
"It's fine."
"Piers, we've come to the Republic of Edonia to investigate the source of the BOWs. In essence, we're helping the Government Forces. As long as we land on the edge of their territory,"
"and then slowly approach the center of the battlefield, we won't be operating alone. To some extent, the Government Forces will assist our operations."
Hearing the young man's words,
Chris reached out and patted his shoulder, explaining calmly. At the same time, it served to reassure the other squad members in the cabin.
Though their mission was grim,
it wasn't necessarily impossible. In Edonia's civil war, only the revolutionary army—the rebels—were using BOWs.
The Government Forces, bound by UN international law, were prohibited from using bio-weapons. Consequently, they were currently struggling to hold out against the revolutionary army's offensive.
Chris's BSAA Squad coming to investigate and eliminate the BOWs
was essentially helping the Government Forces. As allies, the Government Forces would naturally assist Chris and his team.
After all,
the Government Forces were, at the very least, a country's regular army, formally recognized by the state and the international community.
While the revolutionary army might be called that to sound better, as if they were fighting for the people, in reality, they were just rebels.
A civilian army attempting an insurrection.
Therefore, setting aside the fact that the revolutionary army was using BOWs, even if they weren't, Chris and his team wouldn't have helped them...
Because when it's impossible to determine who is good or bad,
they always align with the Government Forces recognized by the world and the state. After all... not every revolutionary army is the Eighth Route Army of the Communist Party of China.
As for the handsome young man sitting in front of Chris, he was Chris's new partner, Piers Nivans!
With a dashing and handsome appearance, he was every bit the young military elite.
A sniper for the BSAA North American Branch's Alpha Team, Piers was born into a military family, starting from his great-grandfather,
