Chapter 456 - 456

And at this very moment—

In an alleyway of a commercial street,

Several police cars were parked, and nearby civilians watched the commotion nervously from a distance.

No matter the time, the human tendency to watch a spectacle without fear of the consequences remained; they wouldn't worry until the fire reached their own eyebrows. This was also a manifestation of human selfishness.

One after another, over a dozen SWAT Officers stepped out of the police cars.

Each was fully armed, wearing helmets and bulletproof vests, and all carried M16 assault rifles.

The QBZ-95 rifles from Mainland China had not yet become popular in Hong Kong Island, so the military and police were still equipped with American-style M16 assault rifles.

Several police cars formed a defensive line.

The lead SWAT Officers, holding assault rifles and riot shields, pushed forward slowly, while team members behind them provided cover.

Not far away, a Sniper with a large rifle reported the situation. This setup... was exactly like filming a Hong Kong action movie.

"Everyone, be careful..."

"Approach slowly. Hit the deck immediately if something happens. Don't rush forward brainlessly; the brothers behind will cover you. Standing straight will only get you turned into a sieve. Do you hear me? If there's danger, cover your head and get down!"

Familiar Hong Kong Cantonese came through the radio as a SWAT Squad Captain earnestly instructed his members.

This was no ordinary police mission.

It was even more dangerous than capturing international drug lords: dealing with bio-monsters. News of Resident Evil had spread into Mainland China and Hong Kong Island like the flu.

To be honest, they didn't believe such things as Resident Evil existed in the world, but the UN-sanctioned BSAA had appeared out of thin air.

Coupled with various data and videos from across the ocean, they realized that bio-monsters truly existed.

They had simply been kept safe by their motherland and hadn't seen them with their own eyes. After all, Mainland China's defensive capabilities were very strong.

From the Resident Evil Revelations in 1998 to the present in 2013, almost no Resident Evil event had broken out on a large scale in Mainland China.

This was the first time Carla wanted to conduct a large-scale infection in Hong Kong Island, so it was quite novel, meaning these SWAT Officers lacked practical experience and were currently very nervous!

"Understood, Captain..."

Hearing their captain's serious warning,

the two SWAT Officers pushing forward with riot shields swallowed hard and signaled their understanding.

They quickly lowered the riot shields, adopted a duck-walk posture, and moved forward slowly, trying to cover their entire bodies with the shields.

And at this moment,

in front of them was a familiar Luosifen shop, a popular snack introduced from the Liangguang region of the mainland. Right now, the soup buckets inside were overturned, and soup was scattered all over the floor.

A peculiar stench immediately filled the entire street.

It made the two advancing SWAT Officers frown slightly. They really didn't understand why people were so strange, liking something that smelled foul but tasted fragrant.

"Heh heh heh..."

Soon, low panting sounds came from inside the shop, along with the crisp clatter of pots and pans being smashed.

Hearing the movement,

the SWAT Officers outside quickly turned their gaze toward it.

They soon discovered a figure slowly standing up inside the shop. It was a living human, but strangely, they wore a Beijing Opera mask.

However,

they didn't know that under the mask, the living person's face had six pairs of eyes. That's right... this humanoid bio-monster was the c-virus's Compound Eye Demon.

It was also one of the Suicide Squad forces controlled by Carla. As mentioned before, although the Compound Eye Demon was a product of the c-virus,

it didn't turn humans completely into monsters. Aside from enhanced strength and erased memories, basic intelligence was retained.

With training, these Compound Eye Demons could still use weapons to attack, acting like puppet death soldiers.

This was even more useful than the Plaga parasite.

After all, the Compound Eye Demon only required an injection of a special c-virus agent; it didn't need a long period of parasitism.

Once controlled,

they were a Suicide Squad that didn't fear death. These Compound Eye Demon Suicide Squads were sent out by Carla to harass and distract the government.

The only pity was that these Compound Eye Demons could not cause direct infection. The peculiarity of the c-virus was that its infection channels were too few.

Aside from airborne transmission via gas,

there were almost none. Zombies and bio-monsters could not cause direct infection; biting was useless.

Infection could only occur through special BOWs like the Beauty Beast.

Considering this problem, Carla went through the trouble of creating the Chaos Zombie, that big nuclear bomb, in order to increase the infection methods and range of the c-virus.

But even so,

these Compound Eye Demons were enough to cause significant trouble for the government's SWAT Officers!

"Heh heh heh..."

*Click... Bang bang bang bang bang—!!!!!*

And soon,

the Compound Eye Demon hiding in the shop launched an attack. The figure quickly rushed to the shop window,

immediately raised the assault rifle it carried, pulled the trigger, and fired a rapid, frantic burst. Deafening gunshots rang out, and sparks flew everywhere.

An unexpected method of attack.

This left the two slowly advancing SWAT Officers stunned.

Didn't they say there were bio-monsters inside? And aren't bio-monsters just a bunch of zombies? Even if they attack, they should just pounce. Why are they shooting now?

Could it be that the intelligence the government received was wrong?

This wasn't a bio-monster attack at all, but a group of hardened criminals?!

*Psh psh...*

Even more unfortunate were the two SWAT Officers holding riot shields. Any riot shield on the market has a certain level of resistance,

but the primary function of a riot shield is actually to block shrapnel.

Professional riot shields can stop most handgun fire, but they absolutely cannot withstand rifle fire. After all, the kinetic energy of the two is on completely different levels.

Therefore,

with almost no surprise,

after the Compound Eye Demon fired with a standard criminal's AK assault rifle, the bullets instantly turned the riot shields into sieves.

The arms and legs of the two SWAT Officers hiding behind were instantly broken, but fortunately, they were wearing another layer of bulletproof vests.

Under double protection,

only their limbs were injured; their abdomens and heads were not hit, allowing them to luckily escape with their lives.

"Aaaaah...!!!!"

But the shrill screams were unavoidable.

Seeing the gunfire from the shop stop, two of the SWAT Officers rushed forward to quickly drag their fallen teammates back.

"What's going on?!"

"I thought they were bio-monsters! Why are the guys inside using guns!"

At this moment,

the captain of the SWAT squad, seeing the scene before him,

was suddenly filled with rage and couldn't help but start cursing. Zombies using guns—this was a first, like seeing a ghost.

"Captain, they should be human..."

"I saw that guy inside wearing a painted mask. Leave it to me... I've found a shooting angle. I'll take him out!"

Looking at the fuming captain, the Sniper stationed on top of a police car suddenly spoke up to explain.

Just now, as a Sniper, he had suddenly seen the Compound Eye Demon's mask through his scope, thus judging it to be human and not a zombie.

He then began to bolt the rifle,

pushing a bullet into the chamber and aiming at the Compound Eye Demon's head in the shop window. Without hesitation, the Sniper pulled the trigger.

*Bang—!!!!*

The loud crack of the Sniper rifle rang out,

accurately passing through the window glass and hitting the Compound Eye Demon's head. The painted mask instantly shattered,

revealing a terrifying face with six ferocious eyes.

It was definitely not something a normal person could have. Blood was expected to splatter,

but the Sniper was filled with shock. He never expected that the guy wearing the mask was actually a bio-monster?!

"..."

"Roar roar roar—!!!!"

The moment it was hit in the head,

the Compound Eye Demon didn't die. Instead, high-temperature steam quickly began to emanate from its body, and a green cocoon covered it.

Then, a massive object quickly broke out from the humanoid cocoon. Its muscles were incredibly thick, its skin was yellow-green and stained with blood, its head was tilted to the side, and its eyes were wide open.

The spine on its back rose like a small mountain, its arms were thick, and its legs were slender. Overall, it looked like a silverback gorilla.

It suddenly let out a deafening roar,

smashed the shop's door frame with one hand, leaped high toward the SWAT Officers outside, and pounced with incredible speed.

This was a Rasklapanje,

a type of c-virus mutant.

When Chris's BSAA Squad was ambushed by Carla, the monsters they mutated into were Rasklapanjes.

They look like yellow-green skinned gorillas and use their thick arms to attack opponents.

Chris was knocked unconscious after being swatted away by a Rasklapanje's arms. These monsters attack very quickly, have hard skin and muscles, and possess immense strength, which is why they are called Rasklapanjes.

As mentioned before,

c-virus Compound Eye Demons generally have three outcomes. First, if severely injured and the metabolism is too fast, they can't withstand the high temperature produced by the c-virus and turn to ash.

Second is a partial body mutation, such as an arm mutating alone. The third is the evolution into a mutant seen here, where the body is covered by a humanoid cocoon and then turns into an even more ferocious and terrifying monster. A mutant is just one of these forms...

Volume 9 Resident Evil 6: Chapter 27 The Bet

"Roar roar roar—!!!"

The Rasklapanje mutated from the Compound Eye Demon caused immense trouble for the government SWAT Officers on the scene. Their assault rifles were capable of concentrating fire to kill a Rasklapanje,

but due to a lack of practical experience,

the scene was chaotic. Without clear command, these SWAT Officers were like loose sand, and the Rasklapanje tore through them like a wolf among sheep.

Its massive arms swung wildly like two morning stars.

SWAT Officers who were hit were instantly sent flying dozens of meters, falling unconscious immediately. The police cars serving as a defensive line were knocked aside in just a few hits.

The Rasklapanje was like a rampaging rhino,

crashing through the street. The sudden attack disrupted the SWAT Officers' plans, leading to total chaos. They couldn't resolve the Rasklapanje situation quickly.

After all, they had already fired dozens of shots at the Rasklapanje,

but because of the Rasklapanje's thick skin and flesh, these bullets couldn't break its defense. Instead, they only provoked more intense aggression.

Compared to other versions of bio-viruses,

the c-virus indeed had its merits. After all, its BOWs were truly strong.

Although the infectivity wasn't high, these derived mutants were very powerful. Just the Rasklapanje in front of them, an elite monster, was comparable to a weakened version of the Tyrant.

It wasn't something a group of slow-moving, one-shot-to-the-head zombies could compare to, especially since they were just mutants.
