Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: My First Diamond

"Three sad tigers eat wheat, in a wheat field they eat wheat," I muttered to myself while walking… well, walking might be an exaggeration.

I was more like crawling through cracks in the rock.

I had managed to get two gold ingots—well, not smelted yet, but hey… I had them. And I also had one block that basically made it unlimited, but I wanted to experience the process.

"And collect every mineral," I said while mining sideways, since I could hear water nearby. So it was probably a puddle or something.

And I was right.

After digging a few blocks, I saw what I wanted.

"A super cave," I said, raising my hands while still holding my stone pickaxe.

I placed a torch to light the place and started walking while observing the area.

The first thing I saw were a few coal veins.

Nothing that interested me too much… but I'd take them anyway. Why not?

While mining, I noticed again how the caves here were clearly different. They constantly gave the feeling that at any moment half the ceiling could collapse on you—stone, gravel, whatever—and you'd die crushed.

Shaking my head, I placed a crafting table while making a few more to keep in my inventory.

After placing it, I checked what I could craft.

I didn't look at everything in detail. I simply crafted my first furnace to cook minerals and food, since I had forgotten I was hungry.

I made both kinds: the normal furnace and the one specialized for food.

Remember, as Herobrine—or a cheap copy, or whatever I am now—I have to collect every item.

I placed both furnaces and started smelting normal stone first, since I wanted to make a blast furnace for minerals.

In the food furnace, I placed 64 pork chops.

I wanted to see if they came with spices or something. Who knows—maybe this world makes them taste amazing. If not… I could always figure out spices later.

I waited for the cooking to finish, but the food finished first.

I took advantage of that.

I grabbed the first pork chop like it was humanity's first meal and slowly brought it to my mouth.

I chewed.

Eating sound.

"No way," I said with a drop of sweat.

I took another bite.

Eating sound.

"Well…" I said while continuing to eat and savor the meat.

Eating sound.Eating sound.Eating sound.Eating sound.

And I finished the pork chop.

"Honestly… it's actually good," I said with genuine approval while continuing to eat, waiting for the stone to finish cooking.

"Can I…?" I wondered while grabbing some wood and arranging it like a chair.

It was a slab I had crafted.

I sat down.

"Not comfortable," I thought.

"But eh… I'm in a cave. I can't have too many privileges… unless I build a house with furniture later."

I imagined the scene with a chibi face while thinking about the possibilities of not having Minecraft hitboxes.

"Imagine the possibilities… I can make more shapes because there's no hitbox."

Although…

I looked at a wooden slab and a stone slab.

"Can I combine them?"

If I can…

This is cinema.

And guess what.

"Hell yeah!" I shouted while floating slightly and staring at the slabs fused together—stone and wood.

"Can I place them sideways?" I wondered with curiosity.

Damn.

I looked at the slab sideways.

"That looks cursed."

"I feel like I'm doing something illegal," I said with a drop of sweat while glancing around like space cops were about to arrest me.

I shook my head and focused on the furnace again.

I smelted the stone twice—since you can cook stone twice, if you didn't know.

After that I crafted more furnaces and finally a blast furnace.

A furnace specifically for minerals.

I placed it and started smelting 64 iron ore.

The weird part was that here there was a limit, so eventually I'd need an iron farm or something.

But not now.

First I wanted full iron gear.

"You know how it is."

"Although… should I make the classic iron golem farm?" I thought.

"…Nah. I don't want to hear those guys screaming in agony."

I shivered.

Then I opened the crafting table with my iron ingots.

I stared at the armor pieces.

Without thinking too much, I started crafting them one by one.

Part of me expected an achievement notification.

Imagine that.

You're walking peacefully and suddenly: Achievement Unlocked.

Thankfully that didn't happen.

Although…

I'll imagine them myself like the future schizophrenic I'll probably become in this world.

I opened my inventory and equipped the armor.

It was surreal.

It looked like a shirt, but also like heavy armor… yet it didn't weigh anything.

Weird.

But it worked.

"Full armor," I said while striking JoJo-style poses.

I finished crafting every iron tool possible.

God… I even made a hoe.

You never know when you'll need a hoe.

"Shark mindset," I said while picking up the furnaces.

Those things were expensive to make.

I equipped my iron pickaxe.

"Damn… I love this color," I said while spinning it in my hand.

Shiny.

Elegant.

Powerful.

Or at least that's how it felt.

And I started walking through the cave.

Because I absolutely wanted a diamond pickaxe.

Hell yes.

Eventually something red caught my eye.

I approached.

"Oh damn."

A dark red block embedded in the stone.

Redstone.

"Redstone!" I said excitedly while floating closer.

I struck it with the iron pickaxe.

Clink.

The block broke, releasing glowing red dust.

"This opens a lot of possibilities," I murmured while imagining traps, mechanisms, secret doors… and probably explosives.

But I shook my head.

"No. First diamond."

A bit later I heard a strange sound.

A low "wuuuum…"

I stopped.

"That's new."

I raised my torch.

And there it was.

A tall figure.

Too tall.

Completely black.

With glowing purple eyes.

"Oh."

An Enderman.

It stood still.

Holding a dirt block.

We stared at each other.

"Well… this is awkward."

I remembered one of Minecraft's most important rules.

"Don't look it in the eyes."

So I slowly turned my head.

"I don't bother you, you don't bother me," I murmured while walking sideways.

The Enderman made a strange sound.

Wooooom.

I glanced slightly.

Still watching me.

"…You know what?"

I sighed.

I raised a hand.

"Good evening."

The Enderman tilted its head slightly.

And then—

Fwoosh.

Gone.

I blinked.

"Okay."

"That was weird."

I kept walking.

But a few seconds later—

Fwoosh.

I turned.

The Enderman was behind me.

A few meters away.

Watching.

"…Are you following me?"

It stayed still.

Holding the dirt block.

I sighed.

"Well… as long as you don't get aggressive."

And I kept walking.

Strangely…

The Enderman did too.

At a distance.

Like it was watching me.

Honestly it looked like a bodyguard.

Tall.

Black.

Silent.

"Yeah… definitely looks like a space cop," I thought.

Eventually I reached another chamber.

I placed a torch.

Light filled the room.

I turned around to check if the Enderman was still there.

He was gone.

I blinked.

Looked left.

Nothing.

Right.

Nothing.

Behind a pillar.

Nothing.

"…What the hell?"

No teleport sound.

No purple eyes.

Nothing.

Just me.

And the cave.

"…Okay."

That was honestly more unsettling than if it had attacked me.

Later I mined some andesite.

Behind it was a crack.

I placed a torch.

Beyond it…

A huge cavern opened.

Warm air.

And a sound.

Glup… glup…

"Lava."

I smiled.

"That means one thing."

I floated slightly and looked down.

A lava lake illuminated the chamber.

Redstone.

Iron.

And then—

I saw it.

On the wall near the lava.

Light blue ore.

Shining faintly.

"Wait… omg… like actually OMG."

I flew closer.

"Seriously?"

I looked carefully.

Blue veins glowing under the lava light.

"Diamond."

I stared for a moment.

Then smiled.

"Hell yeah."

I raised the iron pickaxe.

"Historic moment."

First hit.

Clink.

Second hit.

Tink.

Third hit.

Crack.

The block broke.

A diamond floated in front of me.

Shining.

I absorbed it.

Checked my inventory.

1 Diamond.

I stayed silent for a moment.

Then raised both arms.

"YEEEEEEEES!"

The cave echoed my scream.

Then I looked around.

Because if there was one…

"There must be more."

And sure enough—

A little further down…

Another diamond block.

Sure, I technically had unlimited resources already.

But hey.

Nothing beats mining one the natural way.

I smiled like a true mining psychopath.

"Today is a good day."
