1. Melancholy in the Morning Light
The sun rose over the farmhouse the morning after the siege, but its light brought no comfort. The shattered front doors and the brass casings of spent bullets scattered across the porch were grim reminders of the previous night's violence. Damien sat alone in the library, the tiny data chip resting on the mahogany desk before him. Alaina watched him from the doorway, her heart aching. She knew that Damien's world—the idealized image of his father—had collapsed like a house of cards.
"I spent my entire life trying to be like him," Damien whispered, his voice cracked and hollow. "Honest, brave, a builder of empires. And now I find that the foundation of this entire legacy was built on the secrets and weaknesses of others. It was all blackmail."
Alaina walked over and sat beside him, placing her hand over his. "Damien, our past doesn't define our identity. What matters is not who your father was, but who you choose to be now. This chip is in your hands—it can be your greatest weapon, or it can be the weight that sinks you."
2. Moves Within the Prison Walls
At the same time, inside the Central Penitentiary, Richard Blackwood was being escorted to a private room. Waiting for him was not a lawyer, but a personal representative of Arthur Morgan.
"Richard, tell us everything you know about Damien's father," the representative said, bypassing any pleasantries. "Specifically, tell us about the 'Crimson Protocol'."
Richard let out a jagged laugh. "The Crimson Protocol is a dead-man's switch. If Damien's father died, that data was supposed to be leaked automatically. But Damien somehow intercepted and froze it. If you can get me out of here, I can give you the bypass codes to that vault."
The representative nodded coldly. "Your retrial is tomorrow. A judge who belongs to the Morgans will be presiding. You'll be a free man by midnight."
3. The True Killer
Back at the farmhouse, Damien managed to decrypt a specific folder on the chip labeled 'Operation Phoenix'. Inside was a single audio file. With a pounding heart, he pressed play.
The voice of his father crackled through the speakers: "If you are hearing this, I am gone. The Morgans have found me. Arthur Morgan blames me for the death of his daughter—my wife. But the truth is, she discovered the depths of the Morgan family's black-market dealings. Arthur silenced his own daughter to protect his secrets, then framed me for it. I have carried the burden of that sin to protect you, Damien."
Damien's eyes turned to ice. His father hadn't killed his mother. His own grandfather, Arthur Morgan, had murdered his own daughter and let the world believe Damien's father was the monster.
4. The Abduction
While Damien was reeling from the truth, Alaina stepped out into the garden, seeking a moment of fresh air. Despite the heavy security, the Morgans' technology was superior. Suddenly, the garden's irrigation sprinklers began emitting a faint, sweet-smelling purple gas.
Before Alaina could react, the world began to spin. Two masked figures emerged from the shadows of the hedges, catching her before she hit the ground. From the balcony, Marcus spotted the movement and roared, "Sir! They're taking Alaina Ma'am!"
Damien sprinted from the library just in time to see a high-tech stealth drone deploy a carbon-fiber net, hoisting Alaina over the perimeter wall toward a waiting vehicle. Damien fired his pistol, but the drone was armored; the bullets ricocheted harmlessly into the trees.
5. A Final Ultimatum
Minutes after the abduction, Damien's phone buzzed with a video call. The screen showed Arthur Morgan sitting in a high-backed chair. Behind him, Alaina was tied to a chair, unconscious but alive.
"Tonight at midnight, Damien. Bring the chip to the Cathedral—the same place where you gave her that ring. A life for a legacy."
Arthur leaned closer to the camera, his eyes devoid of any familial warmth. "And if I see a single police car or a hint of a trap, you won't even find her remains. Remember, boy—this isn't a game with your father anymore. This is a war with your own blood."
