Chapter 32 - CHAPTER 32

Aria didn't blink.

The shadow in the reflection didn't move at first. It simply stood behind her image in the pool—tall, dark, wrong. A silhouette shaped like her, but not her. A presence that felt familiar in the worst possible way.

Her hand stayed pressed to her stomach.

The child's warmth pulsed beneath her palm, steady and alive. A rhythm that answered her heartbeat. A rhythm that steadied her when everything else felt like it was slipping.

The fragment pulsed faintly beneath her ribs.

You cannot face what you fear.

Aria exhaled. "I already am."

You are weak.

"I'm still here."

You are breaking.

"I'm not broken yet."

Silence.

But not absence.

Never absence.

The Demon King stepped closer to the pool, his presence cold and steady. The shadows curled around him like loyal creatures, bending subtly toward him. His cloak whispered softly, grounding her in a way nothing else could.

Aria hated how much she needed that right now.

She pointed at the reflection. "That thing wants to replace me."

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because she cannot reach you anymore."

Aria swallowed hard. "So she wants to become me."

"Yes."

Aria pressed a hand to her chest. "Can she?"

"No."

Aria blinked. "No?"

"No."

Aria let out a shaky breath. "Then why does it look like me?"

He didn't answer immediately.

When he did, his voice was low.

"Because it is the version of you she tried to create."

Aria's breath caught. "The version she wanted."

"Yes."

Aria stared at the reflection. "Cold. Empty. Obedient."

"Yes."

Aria shook her head. "That's not me."

"No."

Aria pressed a hand to her stomach. "And it's not who I'm becoming."

"No."

The shadow in the reflection shifted.

Its eyes glowed faintly.

Not silver.

Not shadow.

Something else.

Something wrong.

Aria stepped back. "It's moving."

"Yes."

"Why?"

"Because it senses you."

Aria's stomach twisted. "What does it want?"

"To take your place."

Aria's voice cracked. "How?"

"By becoming real."

Aria stared at him. "That's possible?"

"Yes."

Aria pressed a hand to her chest. "How do I stop it?"

"You face it."

Aria groaned. "Of course I do."

He didn't react.

He simply gestured to the pool. "Touch the water."

Aria stiffened. "What happens if I do?"

"You will enter the reflection."

Aria's breath caught. "Enter it?"

"Yes."

"No. Absolutely not."

"You must."

"I can't."

"You must."

Aria pressed a hand to her stomach. "What about the baby?"

"They will not be harmed."

Aria narrowed her eyes. "You're sure?"

"Yes."

She exhaled slowly. "Okay."

She knelt beside the pool.

The water shimmered, glowing faintly with silver light. Her reflection stared back—eyes glowing with that new, unfamiliar color. And behind her, the shadow waited.

Aria whispered, "For them."

She touched the water.

The world shattered.

She fell.

Fell.

Fell—

—and landed on her feet.

The reflection realm was cold.

Silent.

Endless.

A mirror of the Chamber of Reflection, but wrong. The walls were smooth and pale, the air thick with a strange, humming energy. The floor rippled beneath her feet like liquid glass.

Aria pressed a hand to her stomach. "I'm here."

The child's warmth pulsed gently.

Alive.

Present.

With her.

A voice echoed through the realm.

You should not have come.

Aria spun around.

The shadow stood a few steps away.

It looked like her.

Same height.

Same shape.

Same face.

But its eyes were empty.

Aria's breath trembled. "You're not me."

The shadow tilted its head.

I am what you were meant to be.

"No."

I am what she wanted.

"No."

I am perfection.

Aria stepped forward. "You're a lie."

The shadow's expression didn't change.

I am the version of you that would have obeyed.

Aria clenched her fists. "I don't obey."

You should.

"No."

You were created to serve.

"I was created to end her."

The shadow's eyes flickered.

You are weak.

"I'm still here."

You are breaking.

"I'm not broken yet."

You are alone.

Aria pressed a hand to her stomach. "I'm not."

The shadow's gaze dropped to her hand.

Its expression twisted.

The child…

Aria stepped back. "Stay away from them."

It should not exist.

Aria's voice rose. "It does."

It is an abomination.

Aria's voice cracked. "It's mine."

The shadow stepped closer.

It weakens you.

"No."

It divides you.

"No."

It will destroy you.

Aria pressed a hand to her stomach. "The child gives me strength."

The realm trembled.

The shadow hissed.

You cannot defeat me.

Aria lifted her chin.

"I already have."

The shadow lunged.

Aria braced herself—

—but something stopped the blow.

A pulse of silver light erupted from her chest, bright and sharp, humming with power she had only tasted before.

The shadow recoiled.

Impossible.

Aria stepped forward.

"It's not just me anymore."

The shadow's eyes widened.

The child…

Aria pressed a hand to her stomach.

"They are my anchor."

The shadow hissed.

They are your doom.

"No."

Aria's voice rose.

"They are your end."

The realm shook.

The shadow screamed.

Aria reached out—

—and touched its chest.

Light exploded.

The shadow shattered.

The realm dissolved.

Aria fell—

—and landed back in the Chamber of Reflection.

The Demon King caught her before she hit the floor.

"Aria."

She pressed a hand to her stomach, tears burning her eyes.

"It's gone."

He nodded. "Yes."

Aria trembled. "I ended it."

"You did."

Aria looked up at him, her voice barely a whisper.

"What happens now?"

He held her close.

"Now," he said softly, "you face the world without anything left inside you but your own power."
