Cherreads

Chapter 51 - Not Long Now

Assassin lay beneath me as flakes of the shattered ceiling drifted harmlessly over his armour.

Before a second could pass, a high-pitched screech tore through the air ahead.

I looked out, following Artoria's gaze. Another arrow with a silver shaft and a golden arrowhead was screaming straight for us.

Artoria moved between me and that arrow, Excalibur flashing to intercept.

A fraction of a second before impact, that arrow detonated.

Light swallowed everything. Walls crumbled. Cracks spiderwebbed across the entire structure, foundation shuddering under a tremendous shockwave.

The blast ripped Assassin from beneath me, straight toward a wall, detonator facing concrete. Medusa tried to wrench at her stake-chains still buried in his thighs, but she was a moment too late. A massive chunk of ceiling crashed down over them, pinning her chains beneath rubble.

Those chains snapped taut and tore free from Assassin's legs on their own, gouging out his flesh as he sailed uncontrollably toward the wall.

Broken magic circuits flared to life across my hand. I launched the chopstick still clutched in my grip upward.

Above, the bullet from before had reached the cracked ceiling. It struck a trembling fan and ricocheted off its blade, screaming back down toward Assassin.

It overtook him in an instant and buried itself into a crack in the wall just ahead. That crack split wider, and the already unstable wall began to cave inward.

A second before detonator met concrete, the wall collapsed entirely.

Assassin twisted mid-air, now facing the floor, detonator pointed downward.

[Wind Blade] activated. A razor-thin, unstable sheath of wind enveloped the airborne chopstick, rendering it invisible. A conical point of compressed air stretched from its tip, turning it into something far deadlier than wood.

Gravity pulled it down. I flicked it straight at Assassin.

It carved through the air and reached him in a heartbeat. His instincts screamed—he thrust his moving arm back to block.

Another chunk of ceiling plummeted from above, crashing onto his reaching hand and pinning it for a single, critical moment.

It was enough.

The chopstick punched through the back of his skull and emerged between his brows.

His body began to dissolve mid-air, armour fading alongside him. The detonator dropped, barely an inch from the floor, and clattered harmlessly against it.

Kiritsugu Emiya. Killed by a chopstick.

I snapped my gaze to the left.

Three more arrows were roaring toward us from a considerable distance.

Medusa's stake-chains dematerialised from her grip, new ones coalescing in place of the old. She shifted her stance and moved to my side.

Artoria took my other side, her grip on Excalibur tightening, body tense.

I studied those arrows. Their angular velocity was calculated in an instant—air friction, gravity's effect on trajectory—all of it traced back to a single point of origin.

A red silhouette stood atop a ten-story building approximately two kilometers away.

Emiya.

"Master, I suggest we retreat. I'm running low on mana, and we have no way to counter Archer's arrows." Artoria spoke, her gaze fixed on the incoming volley.

I glanced at her, then at Rider.

"Mana... low." Medusa shook her head at me.

My gaze returned to those arrows. They had nearly reached us.

Medea. I reached for her through our connection.

Master? She replied.

Teleport us back home. My eyes trained on Archer.

A moment, Master. Medea said after a brief pause.

I brought my arm up, fingers wrapped around nothing. The magic circles on my glove flashed once.

An anti-material sniper rifle materialised within my grip. I hefted it toward Archer while calculating the wind resistance, the Coriolis effect, the drop of the bullet over that distance.

A magic circle rotated to life beneath us. Artoria and Medusa were the first to vanish. My own legs began to drift into specks of light.

Three Noble Phantasms in the form of arrows reached me.

I pulled the trigger.

BOOM!

Air sheared in two. A bullet tore from my sniper's chamber, slipping between those three arrows, and raced straight toward Archer.

I vanished just as my surroundings were wiped off the face of Fuyuki.

...

..

.

Two kilometers away.

Top of a ten-story building.

Tsk... Master, they got away. Archer spoke to Rin while lowering his composite bow.

It's fine. That Master is a pain in the ass—catching him off guard won't be easy. Rin replied.

Archer didn't respond. Instead, his eyes tracked a bullet closing in on him. He didn't pay it much attention, merely tilting his head aside by a fraction.

Two seconds later, the bullet passed right by his ear, ruffling his hair.

That was the moment a magic circle carved onto the bullet revolved.

Archer's pupils constricted. He leapt from the roof, but intense white light erupted from that bullet and swallowed him before he could escape.

Maste— Archer's voice cut off mid-sentence in Rin's mind.

Archer!? Rin's voice rose.

...

..

.

A mountain range.

Ten kilometers from Fuyuki.

Four kilometers in the sky, white light flashed as Archer materialised and plunged downward.

He looked left, then right. Mountains stretched as far as the eye could see.

Master? He reached for Rin.

No one replied.

He could feel his connection to his Master thinning by the second.

Shit.

Mid-air, his body shifted into spirit form.

He raced back toward Fuyuki.

His Master was there.

Alone and defenseless.

...

..

.

Gilgamesh walked through the debris of the restaurant Archer had destroyed.

His steps halted before a crumbled wall. It hung an inch from the ground, supported by a nearly shattered steel bar. Beneath that bar lay the same detonator.

Gilgamesh looked down at it, both hands in his pockets.

"Mongrel... you owe me one for this." He spoke as the steel bar finally gave out.

Yet before the wall could crush that detonator, a golden portal materialised beneath it, swallowing it whole.

He turned on his heel, as though the act had left a foul taste in his mouth.

Only his murmur remained.

"Not long now..."

[Authors Thoughts]

Now... Anyone wondering why Izuru didn't finish Rin off while Archer was teleported away? Yup, its the same old.

It would be boring. If he attacked Rin when Archer was gone, then he wouldn't be Izuru tbh.

Anyway... Another day. Another chapter.

Have a wonderful day everyone!

...

Now only the last fight is left. Some things like a chapter or two about the grail, then It'll be the final fight against Gil.

As for anything after that? I'm torn between Apocrypha and Grand Order. Which one would you all like? Or do you guys want me to stop this and release another new story altogether?
