Matteo slipped the phone back into his pocket and leaned against the seat, his thoughts growing heavier with every passing mile. It had been nearly two decades since he had last seen his mother. So much had changed over the years, yet the memories of that painful separation still lingered deep inside him. He wasn't sure what awaited him at the end of this journey, but he knew there was no turning back now.
Almost an hour later, the convoy slowed as it approached the gates of his mother's estate. The iron gates opened, allowing the vehicles to drive inside before finally coming to a smooth stop in front of the elegant mansion.
