Chapter 67 - Chapter Sixty -Seven :THE EDGE

Morning comes too quickly.

Lina didn't sleep well.

Not because she tried—

But because her mind refused to quiet.

Victor.

Daniel.

The dinner.

The conversation outside.

That moment in the conference room…

Her fingers still remember it.

That brief brush.

The way everything paused.

The way it felt like something dangerously unfinished.

She exhales as she walks into the office, heels clicking softly against the polished floor.

Focus.

Work.

That's what today is supposed to be.

Nothing else.

Late Morning – Conference ReviewThe room is full.

Executives.

Team leads.

Presentations queued.

Everything professional.

Everything controlled.

Lina stands at the front beside her team, tablet in hand, posture steady, voice calm as she walks through the proposal.

She's good at this.

Confident.

Clear.

Unshaken.

At least on the outside.

Victor sits at the far end of the table.

Watching.

Not just the presentation—

Her.

The way she speaks.

The way she moves.

The way she avoids looking directly at him for too long.

Daniel notices that too.

From where he sits slightly closer to Lina's side.

He notices something else as well—

Victor doesn't look at anyone else the same way.

Not even close.

And that quiet realization settles deep.

Uncomfortable.

But undeniable.

"…and that concludes the final phase of the expansion strategy," Lina says smoothly.

Silence follows.

Then—

"Impressive."

Victor's voice.

Low.

Measured.

But there's something under it.

Something not entirely professional.

Lina nods slightly.

"Thank you."

Their eyes meet.

Just for a second.

And that second lingers too long.

Elena breaks it.

"As expected," she says, flipping through the documents. "Efficient. Clean. Scalable."

Her tone is composed.

But her eyes are sharp.

Observing.

Calculating.

"Any questions?" Lina asks.

There are a few.

Technical.

Routine.

Safe.

But the tension in the room never fully fades.

Because something unspoken is sitting there—

Between three people who are trying very hard to ignore it.

Afternoon – Hallway

The meeting ends.

People filter out slowly.

Voices return.

Normalcy resumes.

Lina gathers her things quickly, ready to leave before anything else can happen.

"Lina."

She stops.

Of course she does.

She turns.

Victor is standing a few steps behind her.

Alone.

The hallway is quieter now.

Less crowded.

Less safe.

"Yes?"

He steps closer.

Not too close.

But enough.

"You handled that well."

"Thank you."

A pause.

Then.

"You always do."

The words are simple.

But they carry something deeper.

History.

Respect.

Something that never fully disappeared.

Lina shifts slightly.

"That's part of the job."

Victor studies her.

"You've gotten better."

"At what?"

"At not letting anything show."

Her breath catches slightly.

But she keeps her expression steady.

"You taught me that."

The words land heavier than she intends.

Victor's jaw tightens.

"That wasn't the lesson."

"No," Lina says quietly. "It was."

Silence stretches.

Thick.

Loaded.

Victor takes a step closer.

Now it's too close.

"This isn't over."

The words are low.

Controlled.

But they hit like a promise.

Lina's pulse quickens.

"Yes," she says firmly. "It is."

Victor's gaze drops briefly.

To her lips.

Then back to her eyes.

And that small, almost unnoticed movement

Changes everything.

Because Lina sees it.

Feels it.

And for a split second.

She doesn't step back.

Doesn't move.

Doesn't break the moment.

Victor's hand lifts slightly.

Like he's about to touch her.

Like he's about to cross the line.

And this time.

He almost does.

"Victor."

Daniel's voice.

Sharp enough to cut through the moment.

Both of them pull back immediately.

Distance restored.

Control forced back into place.

Daniel walks toward them, his expression calm but his eyes alert.

"I was looking for Lina," he says.

Victor doesn't look away from her immediately.

Then,

Slowly..

He steps back.

"You found her."

Daniel nods.

"Looks like it."

The air shifts again.

Different now.

Less intimate.

More tense.

More aware.

Lina clears her throat slightly.

"We should go," she says to Daniel.

He nods.

"Yeah."

They walk away together.

Victor watches them.

Again.

That same feeling settling in his chest.

Sharp.

Unfamiliar.

Unwelcome.

Evening – Rooftop Event

The city glows beneath them.

Music plays softly.

Champagne flows.

The rooftop is filled with people laughter, conversation, elegance.

Another event.

Another stage.

Lina stands beside Chloe near the railing, a glass in her hand.

Tonight she wears black again.

But softer this time.

A fitted dress that hugs her waist and falls smoothly, the fabric catching the light with every small movement. Her hair is styled loosely, soft waves framing her face.

Effortless.

But striking.

Chloe studies her.

"You're glowing."

"I'm stressed."

"Same thing, different packaging."

Lina huffs quietly.

Then.

"You're in trouble."

Lina doesn't need to ask why.

She already feels it.

Victor has arrived.

And he's looking directly at her.

Of course he is.

Beside him.

Elena.

Perfect as always.

Composed.

Watching.

Understanding more than she says.

Daniel steps up beside Lina.

His presence grounding.

"You okay?" he asks.

"Yeah."

"You sure?"

She nods.

But her grip tightens slightly around her glass.

Victor starts walking toward them.

Elena doesn't follow immediately.

She lingers.

Observes.

Waits.

Because she knows something is about to happen.

And she wants to see it unfold.

Victor stops in front of Lina.

Close.

Again.

Always too close.

"You keep choosing crowded places," he says quietly.

Lina meets his gaze.

"Less room for mistakes."

Victor's lips curve slightly.

"Or less room for honesty."

Daniel steps slightly closer to Lina.

Subtle.

Protective.

Victor notices.

Of course he does.

And something in his expression darkens.

Just a fraction.

Elena finally joins them.

Elegant.

Controlled.

"Enjoying the evening?" she asks smoothly.

Lina nods.

"It's beautiful."

Elena's gaze lingers on her.

"Yes," she says softly. "It is."

But she's not talking about the view.

And everyone there knows it.

The tension tightens again.

Stronger this time.

More visible.

More dangerous.

Because now.

No one is pretending it isn't there.

End LineStanding between Victor and Daniel, under the glow of the city lights, Lina realizes something she can no longer ignore.

This isn't just complicated anymore.

It's a choice.

And soon…

She's going to have to make it.
