Chapter 79 - Deborah's Riddle, The Alchemy Horn Ring

Translator: AnubisTL

Exactly one month had passed since the red copper dragon Deborah left Red Maple Ridge.

The red copper dragon's goal was clear: to defeat the hybrid dragon that had tasted the bitterness of defeat, then capture and tame it, eradicating its evil nature and guiding it toward the embrace of good dragons.

A red iron hybrid dragon, born inherently evil, would undoubtedly grow into a super-villain dragon if left unchecked.

Conversely,

if it could be reformed, it would be an exceptionally glorious achievement—a feat difficult to replicate, worthy of eternal praise and legend!

This was how the red copper dragon saw it.

Its silver dragon father and red copper dragon mother also encouraged and praised this ambition.

For some psychological reason, metallic dragons universally felt compelled to guide evil dragons toward goodness.

For instance, metallic dragons often stole, or even outright plundered, the eggs of evil dragons to raise them themselves.

Such cases were not uncommon among metallic dragons, and any metallic dragon that successfully reformed an evil dragon would be recorded in the metallic dragon inheritance, receiving the highest honors.

The search for Garos proved unsuccessful.

The young red copper dragon lacked the means to track Garos by marking alchemy items, gold coins, or gems.

Though its possessions had been stolen, it couldn't use these to locate Garos.

Initially, the red copper dragon returned to the place where Garos had defeated it, beginning a systematic search of the surrounding area, starting from the abandoned mine where the Rock-Crushing Worms dwelled.

Dragons are highly sensitive to the qi of their own kind.

Moreover, when dragons soar through the sky, their unobstructed vision allows them to survey the land below with exceptional efficiency, making them ideal hunters when focused on a single target.

However, the wilderness is vast, and finding another dragon in such a short time amidst this boundless expanse proved to be no easy task.

Over the course of the first week, the red copper dragon, remembering Garos's scent, discovered the Hemlock Hills.

Unfortunately, the area had been completely burned down, leaving only charred ruins and transforming it into a desolate mountain. The red copper dragon found nothing.

Undeterred, it continued its search with renewed vigor.

While flying over an oil field, the red copper dragon was suddenly attacked.

Enraged, it discovered its attackers were Blackrock Dwarves and immediately descended upon the oil field.

Upon realizing their target was a metallic dragon, the Blackrock Dwarves hastily ceased their assault. Their commanding officers emerged, presenting the red copper dragon with small trinkets from the Southern Kingdoms and engaging it in a riddle game until its anger finally subsided.

A juvenile red copper dragon was, after all, hardly enough to intimidate the Blackrock garrison.

If any other young evil dragon, even a young red dragon, dared to descend upon their stronghold, it would inevitably be beaten to a pulp, even skinned and dismembered.

But metallic dragons and evil dragons are different.

Evil dragons are solitary creatures, indifferent to each other, and without any powerful patrons.

Metallic dragons, on the other hand, deeply value blood ties and are fiercely protective of their kin.

It's acceptable to clash with a young metallic dragon during its adventures and even injure it; doing so to the point of severe injury is considered a display of skill.

But killing one carries dire consequences.

Unless one can ensure absolute secrecy and avoid any trace or pursuit, the wrath of an ancient and powerful metallic dragon could descend at any moment.

On Bernardo Planet, where magic flourishes and various civilizations thrive, the dragon clan may not be the absolute rulers, but they are undoubtedly a dominant force, especially the closely-knit and united metallic dragons.

It is said that killing a gold dragon could even invite the wrath of the dragon god.

The Blackrock Principality, a member of the Lothurn Federation and an ordered nation, is well aware of the trouble that provoking metallic dragons would bring and naturally refrains from attacking them.

While stationed at the oil field, the Blackrock Dwarves explained to the red copper dragon the reason for the attack.

Groni, a dwarf sorcerer in the army, had been blinded by an evil hybrid dragon.

This hybrid dragon had previously sent its chosen to steal their black oil from underground and destroyed two of their alchemy golems, making the garrison on high alert. When the red copper dragon flew overhead, they mistook it for an evil dragon circling to scout and launched an attack.

The red copper dragon asked if this evil dragon was a red iron hybrid dragon and received an affirmative answer.

It immediately pressed the Blackrock Dwarves, asking if they knew the whereabouts of the red iron hybrid dragon. But the dwarves had no information; otherwise, they would have already dispatched soldiers to hunt it down.

With no leads, the red copper dragon left the oil field garrison.

It wandered aimlessly over the wilderness, investigating any dragonkind scent it detected, but never found Garos.

Until today.

The torrential rain made the fire-type red copper dragon uncomfortable. Amidst the howling wind and rain, it considered abandoning the pursuit of Garos.

Then it noticed.

In the distance, lightning flashed repeatedly, illuminating the sky as bright as day. Strangely, all the lightning seemed to strike a single location, as if drawn by some force, and a faint scent of dragonkind permeated the air.

Driven by curiosity, the red copper dragon flew toward the site.

When it saw its target, it froze for a moment, then erupted in ecstatic, uncontrollable shouts.

"You naturally evil hybrid dragon! I've found you!"

Garos looked up and saw the red copper dragon's figure, hearing its loud declaration.

Why shout so loud?

And how did this guy find me?

Garos felt both puzzled and wary.

After stealing the red copper dragon's equipment and treasures, he had meticulously examined everything, finding no tracking marks or spells. The young red copper dragon theoretically shouldn't have had such skills.

Of course, the safest course would have been to discard or destroy everything.

But Garos hadn't fully overcome his dragonkind's inherent greed.

The thought of abandoning his treasures felt like a knife twisting in his heart. Since he found no tracking marks, he kept them. Later, he had Fairy Dragon Vera re-examine everything, but she still found nothing out of the ordinary.

"I was careless," he muttered.

My obsession with wealth made me subconsciously overlook potential risks—a major weakness I need to address through targeted training, Garos thought to himself.

He had noticed something.

On the red copper dragon's horn, there was a shimmering silver horn ring. The scales around its neck seemed slightly swollen, as if concealing some valuable treasures beneath.

Suppressing the urge to snatch them immediately, Garos gazed at the red copper dragon and asked in a deep voice, "How did you find me?"

"Heh heh, the answer is hidden within the riddle," the red copper dragon, Deborah, replied.

She circled in the torrential rain, her scales glistening as the downpour washed over them. A cunning smile spread across her face as she cleared her throat and recited in a rhythmic, singsong voice:

"It has no form or substance, yet can make the foolish triumph and the wise fall."

"It is silent and unseen, yet can elevate the weak and shatter the strong."

"It leaves no trace, yet can turn chance into destiny and destiny into chance."

"Neither magic nor skill, it has brought you here today—to reunite with me!"

"Tell me, hybrid dragon—what is it?"
