Chapter 342 - The War Begins!

Translator: AnubisTL

The alchemist Sienna was one of the two senior spellcasters accompanying the army. The other was Guardian Mage Sanchez, a solemn man of about fifty, who followed closely behind Rhode alongside the alchemist.

The alchemists needed no introduction; their mastery of alchemical technology had been a cornerstone of Bernardo Planet's civilization.

Guardian mages, meanwhile, were spellcasters specializing in defensive magic. Their spells centered on obstruction, expulsion, and protection.

Some critics might argue that this path was too passive, relying solely on avoidance and rejection without offensive capabilities. But every true guardian mage firmly believed that terminating negative effects, shielding against fatal weaknesses, and repelling evil influences were neither trivial matters nor mere abstract ideals—they were a proud and vital mission.

"As you command, General," the alchemist replied immediately. Using her portable communication device, she relayed the order to the sorcerer team operating the heavy cannons in the rear.

The heavy base of the alchemical cannon was quickly and securely planted on the ground. One by one, the dark muzzles, etched with energy circuits, slowly rose, coldly adjusting their angles to aim at the ominous hill.

However, before they could fully prepare to fire,

Roar! Roar! Roar!

Three deafening dragon roars shattered the air.

Iron Dragon Solgorn, Red Dragon Samantha, and White Dragon Treacy tore through the thick clouds, circling in the sky. As their roars echoed, dragon might poured forth like a breached dam, like a hurricane sweeping across the land.

Dragon might was no mere intangible aura.

A more fitting name for it was—ferocious presence!

This was a genuine spell-like ability, and like dragon breath, it was one of the core skills that grew stronger with the dragon's age and power.

The army array below immediately erupted into chaos.

Even these battle-hardened Iron Blood elite soldiers were more or less strongly affected by the dragon might.

In their awe-struck perception, the three dragons in the sky seemed to swell infinitely, transforming into towering, invincible, and terrifying mountains that instilled despair and crushed the courage to resist.

At the same time...

Rumble!

The earth trembled slightly.

The heavy ironhooves of the centaur warriors shattered stones in their path, while the giant wolves' claws gouged deep furrows in the parched ground. Like a bursting flood, they charged down from the hills ahead. Behind them surged a tide of muscle-bound ogre warriors, each like a miniature giant, followed by a vast swarm of hyena-men, kobolds, lizardfolk, and other monstrous rabble.

Three massive, beastly figures stood out clearly within the horde.

The monster army surged forward like a black tide of death, crashing toward the human ranks, which had been shaken by the dragon might and were now in disarray.

Just then,

Guardian Mage Sanchez raised his staff, its massive yellow crystal gleaming. His hurried incantation had reached its climax.

"In the name of order, protect!"

As the final, resonant syllable left his lips, he slammed the staff down.

Anti-dragonkind Aura.

An invisible yet immense radiance erupted from the staff, spreading in all directions.

This spell offered potent resistance against dragonkind's abilities, particularly dragon might, effectively weakening its deterrent effect against dragons below the adult stage.

An invisible aura of spiritual energy swept over the soldiers. The warriors, whose minds had been gripped by fear and whose limbs had gone cold, instantly regained clarity and resolve. Their wavering morale was steadied.

"Fire! Fire immediately! Free fire!"

The two sides had not yet clashed in close combat, making it the perfect moment for their alchemical heavy cannons to unleash their devastating long-range firepower. They couldn't allow the charging monsters any chance to adjust their formations.

The muzzles of the prepared alchemical great cannons simultaneously spewed forth white-hot energy beams and heavy projectiles wrapped in alchemical explosives, piercing the night sky with piercing shrieks.

They traced deadly parabolic arcs through the air, aiming straight for the horde of monsters surging up the hillside below. The goal was to shatter and pulverize their charging momentum with a storm of steel and fire before they could even reach the human lines!

However, to the humans' utter surprise,

At almost the same moment, equally fierce and precise alchemical cannon fire erupted from between the gnarled peaks of the opposing hill.

Human shells and monster shells crisscrossed and collided in midair, exploding into dazzling, deafening fireworks that lit up the entire battlefield as if it were day.

Of course, not all shells were intercepted precisely.

Some human shells pierced the crisscrossing web of fire, crashing into the monster horde charging down the mountain. They erupted in bursts of gore and mangled limbs, a grotesque fireworks display. Similarly, several shells from the hills, trailing shrill howls, slammed into the human ranks, overturning soldiers who couldn't evade and smashing the base of an alchemy golem, triggering brief chaos and agonized wails.

The human officers were horrified to realize that the Ironforged Tribe possessed alchemical weapons of considerable scale and power.

Beyond the heavy cannons spewing flames, they saw iron golems even larger and more imposing than ogres, their heavy steps shaking the ground as deafening engine roars followed. Like mobile fortresses, they charged alongside the monster horde.

This completely unexpected sight left Vicious Wolf General Rhode utterly stunned, even momentarily disbelieving.

But this was no time to dwell on the origins of these weapons and golems.

Since both sides possessed devastating long-range firepower, remaining in place to exchange artillery fire would only increase pointless casualties.

When two forces meet on a narrow path, the hero prevails.

Only a charge, only close-quarters combat and bloody melee, could decide the outcome of this battle!

"For the glory of the Albert Family!"

The Vicious Wolf General drew his massive sword from his back, its blade pointed at the surging tide of monsters. With a earth-shattering battle cry, he roared, "All troops, advance! Crush them! Leave none alive!"

The order to attack was like a spark thrown into boiling oil, igniting the entire battlefield in an instant.

Whir—Boom!!

Upon receiving the command, the alchemy golem engines of the Albert Family erupted into full power, their massive metal bodies unleashing astonishing speed as they surged forward like an iron tide!

Human warriors, clad in gleaming armor and wielding sharp weapons, followed the moving steel defense. Their eyes were as cold as ice, yet their steps were as swift as the wind as they launched a desperate counter-charge against the oncoming wave of death.

Neither side showed any intention of retreating.

Under the dazzling light of the crisscrossing artillery fire, the twin torrents of steel and flesh—one metallic, the other organic—collided with earth-shattering roars and battle cries, a relentless and uncompromising clash.
