Chapter 2 - Awakening

Mike had lost all hope. He stood in the dimly lit shop, restless and filled with uncertainty. His mind raced as he approached the cashier desk, searching for any valid documents. Instead, he found only fake ones, crumpled and useless. The sound of a roaring truck broke through his thoughts, growing louder as it approached the shop.

He dashed to the window and peered outside. A truck pulled up, and masked men jumped out, guns in hand. They pointed their weapons at the shop, their intentions clear. Panic surged through Mike. He quickly ducked behind a wooden desk for cover, heart pounding in his chest.

The door burst open. Bullets flew into the shop, shattering glass and ricocheting off walls. Silence fell, broken only by the distant screams of people outside. Chaos erupted as men and women from nearby shops fled, their faces filled with terror. Even a drunk man who had been sitting at the bar sobered up instantly and scrambled away.

"We finish this up," one of the masked men declared, likely the leader. "John, take it." He pointed to another gang member, who moved toward the shop. Mike's mind raced. He spotted a rear door and sprinted toward it, desperate for an escape. But he found himself in a small room with no exit except the way he came.

John entered the shop, gun raised, ready to kill. Mike's adrenaline surged. In a split second, he lunged at John, grabbing the gun and disarming him. Without hesitation, Mike pulled the trigger, and John fell to the ground, lifeless.

Outside, the gang members heard the gunfire. "Is he done?" one of them shouted. "Yes!" came the reply. "Come on, let's go! I want to chop him up a bit more; I'm coming with his head!" Excitement rippled through the group. "What will you do with $2,000?" one asked. "I'll open a restaurant. I'll buy a supercar for my wife." "I'll buy more guns..." the banter continued.

Their leader, growing suspicious, stepped away from the truck and moved toward the shop. Mike, still behind the desk, listened intently. The sirens of police cars wailed in the distance. "Police!" someone shouted. "Don't worry," the leader said, trying to calm his crew. The police arrived, guns drawn, shouting, "Freeze!"

The gang opened fire, bullets flying as Mike peeked from his hiding place. The scene was chaotic. The gang members weren't just ordinary criminals; they were trained fighters, skilled in combat. They stormed into the shop, guns blazing, searching for Mike.

"This rat!" one of them yelled, pointing at the fallen John. They began a frantic search. "Maybe we've been lied to; there's no one here..." one said, glancing nervously around. "How come our friend is down?" another questioned, looking more anxious.

Just as they were about to leave, one gang member, visibly unsettled, moved toward the dark room. He requested a gun, and another handed him one, pointing it toward the shadows. Mike knew he had to act fast. He grasped his own pistol tightly, waiting for the right moment.

The gang member wanted to turn the gun, but Mike was quicker. He held his gun steady, pointing it at the intruder's head. "Everything good?" the gang member asked, trying to sound calm, but fear flickered in his eyes.

"Yes, it is," he replied, his voice shaky, face a mask of false bravado. The leader sensed something was off and called for the others. They all moved toward the dark room, where Mike lay in wait.

In a split second, Mike fired, hitting the leader. He dropped to the ground, still shooting at the remaining gang members. Bullets whizzed through the air as chaos erupted. The gang members, caught off guard, began firing at each other in confusion.

Mike ducked behind the desk, adrenaline coursing through him. He continued to fire, aiming carefully. The sound of gunfire echoed throughout the shop, punctuated by the screams of the gang members. One by one, they fell, their excitement turning to panic.

Outside, the police were regrouping, trying to assess the situation. They had heard the gunfire and were preparing to storm the shop. Mike knew he had to act quickly. He shot the last gang member who had been trying to escape but it got his leg.
