They went past the main entrance, and entered a door on the left. Inside at a dest sat a Sergeant First Class named Johnson sitting at a desk with shelves containing all sorts of equipment behind him.
He looked up at them. "Ah, Miller, these the new ones you told me about?
She smiled. "Yup, we're here to get their equipment."
"Alright." He looked at their name tapes and the down at a binder on the desk flipping through the pages. "Lets see here... Campbell, Gonzales, Miller, and Turner. Ah here we go,."
He wrote down some letters and numbers on a piece of paper, the walked back to his shelves, grabbing things as he went. Eventually coming back with 4 large boxes.
"Here you go. Gear for your soldiers. And Miller, I expect the paperwork by the end of the day."
"Of course sergeant, we willget it done promptly." She turned to the four. "Each of you grab a box and follow me, we will figure out who's is who's on the drill floor."
Each of them grabbed a box and followed Tay. She led them further down the hall, and opened a door on the right, which led to a massive open room.
"Alright, set those down there. Go ahead and open them up."
They did so and found that each one had a bunch of gear in it, and that on top of it all was a piece of paper with a name printed on it and a checklist below that.
"The paper has the name of who that box belongs to. Find your box and then pull out the paper and set it on the floor in front of you."
They did so, Taylor then told them to pull out all the gear in the boxes and lay it on the floor neatly. When they did so she ran them through the checklist. Nothing was missing, so they signed off saying they had recieved it and were now responsible for it. Taylor signed saying that she checked all of the gear and explained that they would be responsible for everything they were issued.
"Ok I'm going to go turn these in to Sergeant Johnson, so just sit tight for a minute. When I get back I'll run you through what all of this does and have you try it on and see how it all works."
She left, taking the papers with them.
"Dude they issued us a watch...why would we need a watch?" Justin said looking at their gear layed out on the floor.
"Also they didnt issue us any magazine holders. I get that we're super soldiers and all but are they really planning on sending us to the front without even a rifle?" Kiara asked.
"I think so." Travis responded. "I mean they even took my arm rifle."
"YOU HAD AN ARM RIFLE?!?!" All three asked in unison.
Travis was taken aback by the intensity of their reaction. "Yeah, didn't I tell you about that?"
"No! You didnt tell us!" Kiara shouted.
"Yeah i think I'd remember if my friend told me he had a FUCKING GUN IN HIS ARM!" Justin said.
"Then did I tell you about my sword arm?" Travis asked
"No. You didn't. I cannot believe you didn't tell us this. I can understand not telling Justin, he'd tell everyone who would listen. But you could've told Kiara and I, we would have kept it under wraps"
"Hey! I wouldn't tell everyone!" Justin protested.
"You literally told the entire company you got a top secret assignment during basic training. You can't keep a secret for shit." Kiara said to him. Then she turned her attention back to Travis. "Anything else you're not telling us?"
"I can sense everything around me, but other than that there's nothing else to tell you. At least as far as I'm aware."
"If there is something else, I'll beat you to a pulp." Victor said.
Finally Tay came back.
"Alright you four. Lets get you familiarized with your gear before I show you how to store it. We will begin training tomorrow, once the rest of the squad arrives."
"The rest of the squad?" Justin asked. "I thought the military operates in platoons?"
"They do. However high command has deemed a full platoon of us overkill. So we will primarily be operating as squads or even teams depending on the requirements of the mission." Tay responded. "Any other questions? No? Good. Then let's continue.
Go ahead and put on the watches first. They contain your base layer. Your armor attaches to this layer. It also monitors your vitals and reports them, your location, and any injuries to the command center. Go ahead and press the button on the side and try it out."
As they did, a covering similar to a wetsuit spread out and covered them from wrist to ankle. And all the way up to the top of the neck. Thankfully, they all fit well.
"Now on top of that we are going to put on your armor."
They each put on the armor thick metal boots that must have weighed 30 pounds. Shin guards that went up to the knee and all the way around. Thigh plates that covered the outside of their legs but didnt impede movement. A belt with groin and butt protection. A chest plate with a raised collar to protect the neck, flexible around the abdomen and center of the chest, rigid everywhere else. Shoulder guards that covered the shoulder joint and extended down to the start of the bicep. A smaller plate similar to the thigh plate for the biceps. The forearm armor wrapped all the way around stopping just before the elbow and wrist, with elbow protection jutting out to protect the bone. Gloves that were flexible and mobile while the fingers and back of the hand were covered in metal. And finally the helmet. Unlike regular soldiers, there was no transparent face covering. Instead the helmet was a full metal covering with no way to see out.
"Now just say 'activate' and you'll understand."
The did, and all of their armor started glowing with different accent colors. Gold for Kiara, red for Justin, blue for Victor, and when Travis looked at his own armor he it glowed purple. On the faceplate was a line about where each of their eyes would've been glowing in their respective colors. As it kicked on the inside of the helmet showed the outside as if the helmet wasn't even there.
"There are cameras that project the outside into the helmet. They can use thermals, infrared, and night vision. On your right you'll see condensed vitals for yourself and your squad, since you'll all be in the same squad, we've already linked you all together." Tay explained. "Now onto weapons."
